If they update the program for June, we likely won't see it until the end of the week.

Hello, Trying to get monthly down as far as possible (less than 1k with an upside down trade in of about -4500). What is the sweet spot for the P+ or Prestige? Willing to go 36/39/48 @ 12 or 15k preferably. Milwaukee, WI tax (5.6% on payments only).

The negative equity will add $125 / $115 / $94 to the lease payment, for 36/39/48 months.

    .00214 and 59% (P+) or 57% (Presitge) for 36/15.

    .00234 and 57% / 52% (P+ 39/48) or 55% / 50% (Prestige 39/48)

    Add 2% for 12K

Can someone explain how the US Bank lease works? Will all dealers do this? If I change my MF from .00234 on a P+ 48/15 lease to the .00130 that people talk about, I drop over $100 a month. Why wouldn't I choose this route?

The lease would work the same. One thing to be aware of is that there may be more end of lease charges, as US Bank may not be invested in keeping you as a customer.

Also, the residual value will be different as well.

Residuals might be lower, negating some advantage.

At lease end, USBank isn't worried about selling you a new car. In theory, this might result in a more stringent inspection and the possibility of higher lease end charges.

Acquisition fee may be higher than Audi's $795.

    Here is what I got:

    Prestige
MSRP and SP (Firm Dealer): 67,140 (Hottest SUV in the entire World right now!!)
    MF - .00254
    Trade Value - 13000
Trade Pay off - 11430 (I get it back)
    Tax - 3402
    Acq Fee - 795
    License and Reg - 326

    Quotes from the dealer:
    36/10k - $1221.61
    36/12k - $1238.68

Drive out amount = Tax + First Payment + Registration.
Not putting anything extra down at the moment.

My Calculation is $1079. Any ideas about the mismatch?

    muvb14,
Banks at least end a very strict. Everything from scratches, to tire tread, and interior blemishes I have they will try to charge you with. I always go with the car companies finance department. I think audi also has prepaid maintenance which I would look into as it in the past will bump up your residual value by at least 1%.

I have the following offer from dealer in Los Angeles, CA for a Prestige Trim Q7

    Monthly Payment (incl Taxes): 962
    Capitalized Cost: 67,000
    Bank Fee: 795
    Customer Cash/Total Drive Off: 5000
    License Fee: 553
    First Month Payment: 962.73
    36 months & 10000 miles
Residual is 61% and MF .00210

Using the Edmunds calculator the math is kind of close, but I am trying to figure out if the terms are ok (would also be nice to check the math).

For a 36 month lease, adding the bank fee to the cap cost will increase the payment about $22/mo.

    Hi,

Went to the dealer again, the MSRP is 67,445. 5000 covers Bank Fee (795), License Fee (553) and First month's payment (962). Rest of the money goes towards bringing the lease payment down.

    Thanks

Subtracting $2700 from the $67K gross CAP, I get about $895/mo.+tax, which is probably pretty close.

So, $445 off MSRP, and the equivalent of 5% interest financing.

Isn't there any other SUV you'd rather have? This one is expensive to lease.

Thank you for your responses thus far. If I'm paying first month plus tax title registration for drive off, do I put in one less month in the online lease calculator (35/47 instead of 36/48). Or is that just the same as a down payment and I'll have 36/48 payments after that? Has anything changed for MF/RES for June on 48/15?

    Hi, all.

    Can someone confirm the following:

    1) That the RV for a Prestige vehicle with a 36-month/10K mile term is currently 61%, and that the current MF through Audi is .00211

    2) That the purchase of Audi care at time of vehicle purchase increases the RV by 1%, effectively making it 62%

    Thanks!

    1. MF is .00211, 36/10 residual on Prestige trim is 60%
    2. Yes, add 1% if AudiCare is purchased, making the RV 61%

Thank you, Michael, for confirming the current RV and MF for a 36m/10k Prestige vehicle!

I have another question for the group about how to handle taxes in a lease—whether to roll them into the lease or to pay them upfront. Can someone please provide a basic PRO/CON explanation to help me understand the benefits/drawbacks of each option? Thanks!

Rolling taxes in to the CAP cost:

    PRO:
If you total the car after a couple of months, the full tax amount has been paid, but you've only paid about 1/18th of the total amount (within the monthly payment). GAP insurance takes care of any excess balance, above the car's insurance value.

    CON:
You pay some finance charges on that amount of money that you rolled in.

This pretty much applies to any amounts that you pay upfront vs. rolling into the CAP cost.

    Hey kyfdx,

I took your advice and got the XC90 instead. The audi dealers were all horrible to deal with and this is being an existing audi customer. I got way more bang for the buck on the XC90 and will post the details of the deal on the Volvo forums.

Thanks Edmunds and your team for all your help. You have been invaluable.

    Hi, all.

I calculated the following two lease payments using an online lease calculator—see breakdown of both examples down below.

According to the dealership, it's a 'zero down' lease, so I would only be required to pay 1st month's payment, taxes and bank fee upfront. Given that I intend to pay all taxes upfront (I live in NYC—don't I have to?), I'm not sure why the lease calculator breakdown shows a monthly payment + tax.

Depending on whether I went with US Bank or Audi, am I right in thinking that my final monthly lease payment would be $999 (US Bank, RV 59%, MF .00145) or $1,061 (Audi, RV 60% (1% added for Audi Care), MF .00211)?

And, assuming that all of this right so far, and that I want this exact vehicle, and that I've negotiated the lowest possible cost for it, are there ANY other ways to lower the payments, besides putting money down to reduce cap cost?

Example 1—$999/month—a 36m/12k lease through US Bank

Example 2—$1,061/month—a 36m/12k lease through Audi

If you don't want an on-line calculator to calculate the tax, then leave tax out of the equation.

The taxes are paid upfront in NY, but you can always roll that amount into the CAP cost, effectively paying them over the life of the lease.

If your calculations are correct, then the only way to lower the money factor and payment is through Multiple Security Deposits (assuming you go with AFS).

Thanks for your help, kyfdx. I'm close to pulling the trigger, and can use every bit of help I can get!

Since I was hoping that someone could check the numbers shown in my previous post, I retyped the details of each scenario—see Example 1 and Example 2, below.

Again, it's a 'zero down' lease, so I would only be required to pay the 1st month's payment, taxes and bank fee upfront.

Here are my two main questions:
    • Is $998.89 the correct monthly payment for Example 1? Or is it $1,088 ($998.89 + $88.65 tax)?
    • Is $1,061.31 the correct monthly payment for Example 2? Or is it $1,156 ($1,061.31 + $94.19 tax)?

Example 1—36m/12k lease through US Bank, RV 59%

    MSRP: $82,460
    Base Cap Cost: $78,000
    Costs Added to Lease: $0
    Cap Cost Reductions: $0
    Adjusted Cap Cost: $78,000
    Residual Value: $48,651
    Money Factor: .00145
    Term (months): 36
    Sales Tax: 8.875%
    Monthly Payment: $998.89 + $88.65 tax
    Depreciation: $29,349
    Finance (Rent) Charge: $6,611
    Total Sales Tax: $3,191
    Total of All Payments: $39,151
    Total Lease Cost: $39, 151

Example 2—$1,061/month—a 36m/12k lease through Audi, RV 60% (+1% for Audi Care)

    MSRP: $82,460
    Base Cap Cost: $78,000
    Costs Added to Lease: $0
    Cap Cost Reductions: $0
    Adjusted Cap Cost: $78,000
    Residual Value: $49,476
    Money Factor: .00211
    Term (months): 36
    Sales Tax: 8.875%
    Monthly Payment: $1,061.31 + $94.19 tax
    Depreciation: $28,524
    Finance (Rent) Charge: $9,683
    Total Sales Tax: $3,391
    Total of All Payments: $41,598
    Total Lease Cost: $41,598

If you are paying the sales tax at lease inception, it wouldn't be added to your monthly payment. I agree with your pre-tax math for both examples.

If the sales tax amount is being added back in to the base cap cost, then the after tax amounts are also correct.

So, you need to confirm just how much money you'll be giving the dealer when you sign the contract.

Thank you, Michael! This proves that you are a good teacher!

Now that I've got this part straight, are there any other ways to lower these payments, besides putting money down to reduce cap cost (assuming that I want this exact vehicle, and that I've negotiated the lowest possible cost for it)?

kyfdx mentioned that 'the only way to lower the money factor and payment is through Multiple Security Deposits (assuming you go with AFS)'.

Can you—or kyfdx, or someone else—please explain what 'Multiple Security Deposits' is, and how it works?

Multiple security deposits are a way to 'buy down' the MF on a lease. The beauty is that the money you front to do this is returned to you at lease end.

I believe Audi allows up to 9 MSDs, each of which will reduce the MF by .00005 (.00045 total). The amount of each security deposit is the monthly payment rounded up to the next highest $50.

    Hi-

    June numbers in yet?

Prestige MF / Residual for 36/10

    Thank you.

The current program is scheduled to run through 06/30.

If they update the program for June, we likely won't see it until the end of the week.
    36/12:

    .00214 MF and 61%/59% residual (P+/Prestige)

Should I add 2% for 10K and 1% for Audicare?

    Thanks.
Add 1% to go from 12K to 10K. Add 1% for AudiCare.
Hi- Just to follow-up on this, is "+1% Residual for Audicare" applicable only to Audi Financial or does US Bank honor that as well?

    Thanks.
