edited August 2016 in Subaru
Car runs hot after long drive. Breadbasket, timing belt,water pump all done. Synthetic oil. Recent radiator flush. Runs fine at around town speeds. Runs fine at highway speeds. Heats up when you slow down.

    Well if you have a 2.5L Subaru, you have to test for bad head gaskets just as a matter of course, as this is a known defect in those motors. However, once that is out of the way----the way you describe it, you have an air circulation problem, not a coolant circulation problem---so maybe your fan isn't working properly.

    I lost half my front skid plate recently if that has any bearing.

    Have you replaced the thermostat? Was the system properly "burped" after any coolant system work?

    Breadbasket = Head gasket???

    Yes headgasket. Not sure about thermostat. Don't, know how to burp it.

    How hot is it getting when it heats up? Are you referring to what the gage is showing? Is it actually boiling over? What do you see in the PCM scan data for the engine temperature?
