Alright everyone, I have a sales story pending that has absolutely nothing to do with cars. We've decided to add a three zone ductless A/C to our home here in Seattle (we don't have central heat, let alone A/C). Anyone have any experience with these systems? If so, what are your thoughts on Mitsubishi vs. Lennox? Mitsubishi seems to be the gold standard in ductless and priced accordingly, but I am not sure if that makes Lennox systems bad?

    Any help?

In-laws had the Mitsubishi, and it worked awesomely. Also, it had a remote...another that you can hog from your lady ;).

Mitsu is one of the best. Lennox is no longer the good company they apparently once were. I would look at Daikin/Goodman, Fujitsu, or LG. With these a lot depends on the quality of the installer and their stability should you ever need them for warranty in a few years.

I'd much rather drive the road than ride the cables way above the ground! I can feel my toes curling with the sensation of height in that picture. I had enough trouble with the short tram ride up the hillside at Altoona, PA, and
Horseshoe Curve on the railroad there. LOL

Ahh...the incline plane. Of course there is always using the stairs. 3 gazillion steps and dodging rattle snakes all the way. :s

Happy New Year EVERYONE!  Haven't posted in a couple of days - just haven't felt too well.  Was in to see the doctor today because of recurrent sharp abdominal pains.  So he did some blood tests and scheduled me for a CT-Scan with contrast in a couple of weeks.  I guess this discomfort is to be expected according to him.  It is what it is! ;)

Found another feature in the new car - it can be raised and lowered to accommodate getting in and out of the car more easily. It lowers itself at speeds over 25-30 mph.  Nice feature for someone like me who has pain getting in and out of the driver's seat.  The CLS400 had become so intolerably painful getting in and out of the car that I hated driving.  The 740i is so much less stressful on my body for entry and exit.

Stopped off at the casino to pick up a baker's dozen sesame bagels at their Deli - they make them fresh every morning.  I just put 2-3 in plastic bags and put them in the freezer.  Of course, I couldn't resist playing my favorite slot machine upstairs in their smoke-free area.  After 35 minutes, I was up $277 - so I took the money and ran.  That slot machine has been very good to me these past 2 weeks.  Sure better than working selling cars!  :D

The new heat pump by Lennox that we installed has worked really smoothly and has features our previous model did not have. I had searched for problems with various brands when we purchased this replacement and decided it sounded like a series of coils was the problem that got some people complaining, appropriately.

I noticed in the brochure they offered the separate units. Like was said, a lot depends on the company you have doing the installation. They stood behind the previous unit I had for 23 years and gave me little perks along the way. I know they'll be around to support this one. So it's just like buying a car, where the dealership and service make the difference.

Isell....I remember those mid-late '90s Edmunds forums. They were a trip, for certain. Certain posters come to mind as "pot stirrers". Most of the n'er-do-wells are long gone (that includes a few mods, too). There are still some folks still around from those days...you, imid, Q, jipster, oldfarmer, PF Flyer, kyfdx, stever, Mr Shiftright, probably missing one or two. But, those are the ones I remember. At one point, all my stats were reset. But, I think I've been around since '95-96.....roughly. I originally came in here looking for info and pricing on a (then) new mid '90s Pontiac Grand Prix with the supercharged v6. Since then, I've had 2-BMWs, 3 Caddys (one of them was my late Mother's), 2 Pontiac Grand Prix (both supercharged), 2 Mustangs (one GT and one Cobra 'vert), 1 Audi, 3 Acura TLs, 1 Honda Accord, 1 Chevy Tahoe, 1 Toyota 4Runner, 1 Mazda RX8, 1 Pontiac Vibe, 1 Hyundai Elantra (in my name, but bought it for my son). So, what is that? Depending on how you count it, that's 19 cars in 20 years.....roughly! Been posting at Edmunds through all of them.
You remember a moderator named Tidester (Tom, I believe), g.g? I think of him every now and then when I log onto Edmunds. He was a really nice, cool and very smart man. Very patient with the ole Jipster. He passed away about a decade ago. Says a lot about this site that so many moderators, and members, have stuck around these many many years.

Tidester use to post a lot in the "Global Warming" thread, which often got fairly heated. Tidester always kept his cool, delivered facts in such a clear and precise manner, it would ruffle the feathers of those he was debating. Sad when heard he had passed.

I also remember a member that went by the name of MadManMoo. Funny guy. Was a car salesman. Had some good stories. One of which involved rigging a garden hose in the men's room at his dealership.Think he left after about 6 months.

I have a Goodman that's about 5 years old and couldn't be more pleased. Lots of Carrier, Lennox and others disparage Goodman. But, I think it's because a lot of installers represent higher margins than Goodman offers.

OK....need some advice (again) from the peanut gallery. Called the dealership yesterday about the status of my CTS. Seems the wiring they need for it is still on back order. Doesn't make much sense to me...how can wiring be so difficult to get. Dealer service manager doesn't think I should drive it as it may be a safety hazard.

Given they're letting me drive some very nice, brand new vehicles as loaners (an XT5 and now a CT6), I'm not too off put.

But, the CTS has been in their shop for 2 weeks. Another couple of weeks and that's a month....when lemon law kicks in.

Not wishing that will happen, but what if it does given past history? Go through the hassle once again?

    Let me hear 'ya!

Yikes. Do you really want to go through that nightmare again? As long as they kept me in nice vehicles (maybe even nicer than your CTS?), I'd probably just go with it. If nothing else, it is keeping miles off your car. Of course, there is a limit. I guess if after 1 month, if there is still no end in sight, I'd be talking buyback.

GG - IMHO, it's time to make the move away from Cadillac.  This is the third one with some major problems in a row.  You have just been unlucky to have the ghosts of Cadillacs past haunt you.  There are many posters on Edmunds who "swear by" their Cadillacs where you have been forced to "swear at" them!  How much more does a human being have to take?  Not much more - for your sake!  :'(

You seem very expert on that process, so that makes you different from most of us.

This strikes me as not at all the same as before. It is a single problem, not a series of mysteries. They are simply waiting for the part. Why that it taking so long is certainly a black mark for them. I would advise them to kick it up a notch given that there is a time limit on such things.

HE SAID I DIDN'T WANT TO GO WITH THAT BRAND, AS THE COMPANY IS POOR IN PROVIDING PARTS IN A TIMELY MANNER. HAD ONE OTHER SALESMAN "DISPARAGE" THE BRAND AS WELL. MOST OF WHAT I'VE READ IS THAT GOODMAN IS COMPARABLE TO THE OTHERS. FINDING A GOOD INSTALLER THE KEY.

I don't recall the origin of this problem. BUT the dealer is waiting for a part that Cadillac may have changed specifications on and needs many units produced. I wonder who supplies the harness since I used to go by the Yazaki Headquarters in Canton frequently and suppose they have plants in MI as well as around the world back to Japan.

The dealer is giving you great loaners. If this were another brand of upscale vehicle people would be urging you to be patient, so that's my 2 cents worth. This dealer is taking good care of you unlike previous problem dealer that sent you back out with your own car that was still stalling, losing steering assist, etc.. Wonder whatever happened to those two previous exemplars? We know one went to WI--is it still on the books there?

What do you think of the CT6?

If I were younger and more prone to conspicuous consumption I would do some shopping, especially when sedans aren't selling as well as SUVs. Do a GG or Jipster offer on something they have on the lot. I actually still love my 14 Malibu. It has a lot of premium features on it that most people would not expect, perhaps because it's an LT2 .

When this subject came up, the old players we used to have here, Tidester came immediately to mind. IIRC, Kirstie did not mention his death until after the Christmas holiday period that year so as not to ruin them for us.

We never did find out what happened other than it was sudden.

RIP Tidester, you are still missed by the old gang.

Speaking of those who passed, I remember Mako1a who gave me a lot of Mustang info and who was it who gave us TO BE CONTINUED...?

Isell....I remember those mid-late '90s Edmunds forums. They were a trip, for certain. Certain posters come to mind as "pot stirrers". Most of the n'er-do-wells are long gone (that includes a few mods, too). There are still some folks still around from those days...you, imid, Q, jipster, oldfarmer, PF Flyer, kyfdx, stever, Mr Shiftright, probably missing one or two. But, those are the ones I remember. At one point, all my stats were reset. But, I think I've been around since '95-96.....roughly.

I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting from the '90s.

Stop sayin' stuff that make us sound OLD ;)

LOL. HEY PF! Didn't you host "Mazda Mania"... about 2 decades ago? ;-) Owners of Mazdas had a weekly  one-hour rolling discussion, of the Mazda they owned. That was fun. Think it was cancelled after six months due to lack of participation. Zoom. Zoom.  :'(

Yep, I was a host for weekly chats. Mazda Mania, Subaru Crew, and let's not forget the guest chats. One I particularly remember was the president of Kia. He was a great guest and really got into the spirit of the thing.

We should do that again ;)

@graphicguy - yeah it stinks that the part is on back order. They are giving you loaners to use free of charge (nice ones to boot). It's not like they are giving you a Yaris from Enterprise. I say wait it out.

I'm impressed with the low cost of maintenance for my Dad's 2015 Tahoe. The dealer service department is great too.

Fezo flits in and out sometimes. Some of the more nefarious posters I can recall from "back in the day"...PCH 101, whom I think Isell did battle with. Someone mentioned madmanmoo...he was "colorful". RoadBurner...you've been around for awhile.

I remember when Kirstie was "new" here.

I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting from the '90s.

My previous persona(div2) lasted from 1998-late 2006; it came to a head when a host deleted one of my posts-that called out an imbecile-with a warning and I replied as follows:

Happy holidays! It's nice to see that Edmunds "Protect the Moron" philosophy remains in full flower- at least in the 2007 3 Series Topic. Most of us are betting that you'll delete any critical posts - even if "lxxxxxman" claims the world is flat. Oh well, armed with that room temperature IQ I'm certain that he(it?) will make a positive contribution to every BMW topic he participates in. And if he develops opposable thumbs, who knows how far he may go?

    Roadburner arrived in mid-2007.

Mitsu is one of the best. Lennox is no longer the good company they apparently once were. I would look at Daikin/Goodman, Fujitsu, or LG. With these a lot depends on the quality of the installer and their stability should you ever need them for warranty in a few years.
I concur....the quality of installation is more important than brand. I had heard that most of the internals are made by just a few companies to begin with, and the brands just integrate them together.

I have a Goodman that's about 5 years old and couldn't be more pleased. Lots of Carrier, Lennox and others disparage Goodman. But, I think it's because a lot of installers represent higher margins than Goodman offers.

WHEN I HAD A HVAC SALESMAN OUT ABOUT A MONTH AGO, I ASKED FOR A QUOTE FOR A GOODMAN FURNACE AND A/C SYSTEM.

When I was looking to replace the original Lenox furnace and A/C back in August of '08, I got quotes from several reputable outfits and all of them gave me a price for their name brand (Carrier, Trane, Lenox etc.) and all quoted an off brand of some type but Goodman was the most often one they quoted. The part than floored me was that 2 places that quoted Goodman were higher than the Lenox I finally went with.

When the Lenox guy was sitting in my kitchen giving me his quote I asked him about his off brand, his response was he only dealt with Lenox.

The funniest part about getting quotes was from the guy my cousin recommended. He dealt only with Rheem and his price was more than any of the others and much more than the Lenox guy. Like $1200 more. When I told him he was way out of line he wanted to know who I got a better quote from, I told him and he said, and I still can't believe he said it, "I wish you had told me that before I came out here. I can never beat that guys price". :o Still shaking my head about that.

I'm not saying Lenox is the best out there but when I get a price for a name brand from a place with a very good reputation, that is less than a so called off brand, I'm going with the name brand.

FWIW, I have recommended the place I bought from to 3 guys I worked with and all of them have asked, "how can he be that much lower than the other outfits, my response was, "I don't really care if he's stealing them but if he is, he's been getting away with it for a long time. So he must be good at that too".

One last thing, if my furnace quits this Winter or my A/C quits this Summer, I'm coming after someone in here. Remember that so you can't say I sucker punched you. :@

Pat was very nice. I had gotten a few of her emails as well. I don't remember the poster's name, but there was someone who bought and grossly overpaid on an old Dodge Stealth and everyone was all over it.

GG, I'd give them a little time and see where it goes. In saying that, if it were me this would be the last straw. If the car gives any more BS it would be time to move away from Caddy for awhile.

The "wiring" is probably a harness (or part of a harness most likely) and yes, that can be difficult to source. It's not a part that comes up as a replacement very often. If it's a one-time fix and it works, then it's really no different than anyone else's warranty claim on this board. I think you are more a victim of logistics in this case than the car itself being defective----but we'll see. It's you that has to deal with it, not me.

During my walk this morning at the Boca Mall, I stopped into Sears to look at TV's, Washer/Dryer combos and a new vacuum. Thought I would kill three(3) birds with one stone, kinda. I walked into the area where they have appliances and the first thing I thought of was, "...good grief, these departments resemble a Ghost Town from an old John Wayne flick...!" For the life of me, I could not find a salesperson or a consultant or a manager anywhere. I waited about 5-minutes hoping someone would show up - but no, nada, no one, nyet! All three departments were uncovered by sales help. Boy, things must be pretty bad at Sears if they can't afford help.

So, I decided to finish my walk and I went into Loews not far from where I live. There were lots of consultants and stock people and associates in just about every aisle. I asked where their vacuum cleaners were and I was directed to the correct aisle. The/my vacuum that my cleaning girls have been using is an Electrolux canister - and has to be at least 35-40 years old because I remember my mother had it at their first apartment in North Miami Beach back in the 70's. The girls mentioned to me that the bag was full and they did not know where to find a replacement. I looked all over the house, but couldn't find one. So, since it was pretty old, I decided to not bother trying to get replacement bags and just get one of those new fangled uprights that don't use filter bags. As I'm looking, what do I see hanging above the vacuums - replacement bags for Electrolux canister vacuums built after 1950 with a couple of exceptions. So, I figured what the heck - bought the bags ($7.00) and now when the cleaning girls come next week again, they can put a new bag on the vacuum. It still works beautifully - so why spend several hundred bucks on a new vacuum if all it needed was filter bags? B)

I then looked at their upright washer/dryer combos. They don't make very many that are 24' wide, with dryer on top and washer on the bottom - and they run about $1000.00, no matter what brand you buy. I decided to wait until the existing GE units blow up - the combo I have is 27 years old. I doubt they make them that good anymore.

As for the big screen HDTV, I found out from our maintenance department that the concrete walls can be drilled into - they do it all the time. But it is a specialized installation - best to have the store where I buy it put it in.

So, that's my morning and early afternoon in a nutshell. Definitely accomplished a few things, for sure. :D

It's easy getting customer assistance at Sears---just slit your wrists and lay on the floor screaming and someone will be over to help you within 15 minutes.

They are doing everything possible to fix the problem, and you get to try out some nice loaners. Once you get the car back it might be time to start considering your next move.

BTW....I wonder if other luxury brands get these problems.....we have had about 10 since 2004 and I don't recall anything even close to your current problem or your other problems.

I believe that was ttbaxxon that bought the Dodge Stealth. He was bragging at length over the car and deal. It had a lot of new parts. When he finally told the amount of money he paid, he was razzed a bit for overpaying.

Pat was the moderator that banned me. To say we didn't get along was a massive understatement; I always had the impression that she had it in for me. Other moderators deleted my posts from time to time but in those cases it never seemed that it was personal. It was still sad to learn of her passing.

I always enjoyed Pat. I occasionally communicated with her about posts. I don't recall that she every deleted any of mine but if she did I'm sure my post needed to be deleted. I perceived her to be job oriented in a good way. I was very sad to learn she had passed. I had thought about sending her a note after handling a few rude posters. I'd never speak ill of those who passed, but I don't recall anything.

Everyone here is just doing their job trying to make the forums operate as well as possible. And getting back to cars, I'm waiting for car show season to start again. Today is get your milk and bread day because there's a forcast of 1-2 inches tomorrow, snow that is, and everyone over 40 is driving to the Kroger store to get bread and milk in case we're snowed in for 12 hours here in the frigid North. Please do not post the temperature in Boca Raton today. Please! LOL

She was the one who banned me from the Forums discussion page (a topic related to the forums themselves as they were at the time). I found her somewhat unreasonable, but who knows what orders she had been given. We had email discussions that were to no avail as well. I wasn't a fan.

Just got back from buying a new TV at Best Buy. They are going to install it in my bedroom next Wednesday morning. I got a Vizio Ultra HD 4K HDR TV, 50" (55" was too big for a small room). With the installation bracket that allows you to tilt the TV, installation, etc., including tax, it came to $1028.00. They charged me $649.98 for the TV, $70.00 for the wall bracket, and $250.00 for installation and set up. Based on my research, this TV, which had the 4K HDR, was the best deal for the money. It has 240 hz, which is the top rate for HD. I just hope and pray I made a good decision - according to my brother, it was. But, who knows? :o
