Chevy Suburban Heater Problem

I have a 97 k1500 sub and I've been having problems with the heat. Some times it blows hot sometimes not. I thought maybe the heater core but when it blows cold it blows cold in the back too. Seeing that there is a heater core for the front and back I'm thinking its something else. But don't want to spend bunch of money chasing it. So I was hoping for some tips and ideas.

I would make really sure I wasn't low on coolant to begin with, both overflow bottle and radiator

Already did that, I filled it just to make sure.

Hhmm are there bleed screws to get the air out and did you do that also?

Check the heater hoses as they go into the firewall. Are the inlet and outlet cold to the touch when it's blowing cold or is the inlet warm and outlet cold?
