I think Mazda extended the warranty on the transfer case to 7 years/70K miles.

They extended the warranty on the PTU to 7 years/90k miles on "select vehicles".  Ours was on the list.  If this happens to you, call Mazda USA customer service, they were very helpful for us.

Update: Mazda USA towed us and our CX9 arpund 300 miles to a dealership near our house, they took care of the bill, then the dealership ended up replacing the PTU and whole transmission, no questions asked, all covered under the extended warranty.

That could not have gone any smoother, and we were very grateful that Mazda treated us so well.

My advice if you have any issues is to call Mazda USA customer service.  They were incredibly helpful.

Does anyone know anything the extended warranty on these transfer cases in other countries besides in the U.S.?

We have a 2011 AWD CX-9 that has started to leak oil from the transfer case and I fear that it might indicate a more serious problem with it. But Mazda Sweden does not recognize this extended warranty...

    Regards,
    /Rikard, Sweden

Update after 6 months: no further problems on the CX9.

Our other car needed replacement, and now we now own a 2018 Mazda3 as well, partly due to the customer service experience when the CX9 had an issue.

Anyone with updates about this issue? I just got a 2010 Grand Touring, everything works perfect, however, a week ago I noticed when around 1500 rpm, from 4h gear onwards, pressing the gas pedal it shakes, from back.    Today I took the car to the mechanic, he said the car is well and maybe the torque converter need replacement . After he took the car to a transmission specialist, they said that a fluid flush 90% of the time has fixed the issue. I'm just too cared of of loosing tue car.

PipebOZ...I have a 2009 CX-9 AWB, the problem is the torque converter...the torque converter cannot be replaced...the whole transmission would need to be replaced or rebuilt. Don't let them replace just the torque as the pressure from the transmission will cause the same problem again in just a matter of time.

I lease a 2018 mazda cx9 GT, has nearly 20k miles on it, taking a good care of it. Beautiful car and I love it!!! Now the transmission started to leak oil, I turned it to the Mazda dealer, where I got the car from and where I always service the car. They say they will need to replace the transmission, and, according to them, Mazda is going to send them a factory rebuilt transmission to replace mine. It is not a brand new transmission, but rebuilt in factory. My plan was to buy this car out when my lease is up, but now I'm thinking not to. What would you say?
