There was also an Eldo Brougham in 59, very understated for the time, showing where Caddy would be in a few years:

    image

I think the Eldo Broughams might have been the first cars with narrow band whitewalls.

Wow, that pic threw me for a loop, I thought it had to be a 1961 model because of the modest fins and the shape of the windshield but itlacks the lower fin that '61s had so I did some surfing and came up w this a 1959 Eldroado Brougham Pininfarina>

The brochure doesn't mention Pininfarina's involvement which is odd, since by then they were recognized as the premier design house but you can see their flash emblem just ahead of the door. The restrained form compared to regular Eldos just about shouts Italian design and you're correct in stating that this car which only sold a few hundred presaged the handsomer Caddys of the 60s.

So I'm a bit confused. What makes a Cadillac a Biarritz vs a Brougham? Seems like they may have had both for 57/58?

OK, I've done some research and am still not totally clear, but here goes for 57/58: Biarritz appears to be a top line convertible and possibly coupe (although in 59 the Eldorado coupe was a Seville). The Brougham was the top of the line 4 door. Then there is Fleetwood. This model line seems to have bounced around a bit, but basically is a top line on an extended wheelbase (sedan and limo). But I'm welcoming input from anyone with better knowledge!

Now that you have that, explain the short deck business jumping from various models to models and the Park Avenues. That was the early, early 60s. LOL
I remember the first Park Avenue I saw at a car show a few years ago. I didn't even remember that Cadillac had a Park Avenue. I had to go home and look up the history.

I've always thought Brougham was the super duper low production top of the line - these cars were 10K+ in the late 50s. Biarritz was the normal top of the line coupes/convertibles, Fleetwood was the normal top of the line for sedans.

Forgot all about that Fleetwood 60 Special Ima. I think it was more a 60's thing, but I always liked the greenhouse and formal C pillar on them.

Fin, I think the terminology and verbiage could vary from some years to others. Brand management I suppose B)

Well you're going to see the "Audi Arc" (at the driprails) on most modern cars---blame it all on the Audi TT if you rankle at the repetitiveness of modern car design.

So what's a designer to do? He can a) go retro; b) he can do a Full Honda Type R or c) he can fiddle around the edges.

I don't see an Audi arc so much as an Audi grille.

You don't see the Audi Arc displayed quite as obviously in a 4-door, since it developed in the TT originally. But it was a ground-breaking design for rooflines.

I'd say the Infiniti roof line owes more to BMW than to Audi (there's that Kinky kink again)

Oh, I was referring to the roof arc, not how the roof resolves into the C pillar. Audi was the first IIRC, to take a car roof and bend it like a playing card into a shallow semi-circle.

I see, actually I owned a '98 A4 that had the "arc". I used to think of it as "Audi's perfect arch"

A little off, it's a 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix but good eye on the 455 emblems (on the rockers behind the wheel).

The Pontiac Rallye II wheels were a popular option. Spokes were chromed on most versions.

I think its great you guys can do this - I guess not many people hold up banks driving 1950-1975 European cars so I'm less likely to be of assistance - unless Miss Marple gets in touch...

It wasn't a matter of seeing 4 2 8, those numbers are unclear on my monitor too.
It was thinking that 455 seemed to be too large a number and finding that the largest for the GP that year was 428.
    SJ was a trim level.

My buddy had a 98 Daytona Pace Car Grand Prix.  Decent car for the times with the 3800 supercharged engine.

My 2000 Solara I had at the time was light years nicer inside, but not quite as quick.

On this one pick a lane and call 'em out....

The right hand lane is led by a 1961 Buick sedan, 4-porter (Roadmaster?). Behind it is a nice
'64 Dodge in light teal followed by a 1960 Olds flat-top. The cube truck is a Dodge.

Notice the two black ‘56 (I think) Dodges, one in the second from right lane and the other in the second from left lane. They look like twins, except that the latter one has no hood ornament. I am uncertain what the significance of that is (e.g., it fell off). Any insights?

Doesn't the "V" ornament denote V8 while the absence means the 6-cylinder is under the hood for that era Dodge/Plymouth?

That’s possible, but almost all Dodges of that era had a V-8. I think you could only get a six in the base trim model, and this one looks more upscale that that.

Second lane from right of pic is headed by a 1963 Plymouth which is just ahead of the black
    '55/'56 w no "V" on the front that's followed by a '61 Chevy which might be a "bubbletop" and a older Chevy, can't tell if it's a '55 or '56.
