Thanks Man! Yea I'm seeing mid $200 for 2018 Bighorn & mid $300 2019 Bighorn/lonestar in mid-Michigan.
Maybe next year I can catch a Laramie at that mid $300 level...Is that what you are thinking?

So I've been contacting Ram dealers and it seems like it's pulling teeth to get a formal lease quote sent over on a 2019 1500 4x4 Laramie Crew Cab. Is it normally this hard to get a quote? I feel like if you ask them intelligent questions they ignore you. Should I take a baseball bat in with me to get the information I need? MFing care salesman...what a joke

The money factor is part of the formula that allows calculation of the finance portion of the lease payment. Sort of like interest on a loan.

Monthly depreciation + monthly finance charge = lease payment

Interest on leases is based upon the simple average between purchase and residual
Which would be: (Purchase Price + Residual) / 2
Assuming APR is in percentage (i.e. 2.4%, need to divide by 100 to get decimal)
The monthly interest would then be ((APR/100) / 12 month) * (Purchase + Residual) / 2
simplified you get (APR / 2400) * (Purchase + Residual)

So MF = APR / 2400 or APR = 2400 * MF
A MF of 0.0010 is comparable to APR of 2.4%

So this is why your monthly interest charge is (Purchase + Residual) * MF
Your monthly principal charge is simply (Purchase - Residual) /36 (the term)

Since they use a simple average instead of actual balances, putting money down on a lease doesn't save you interest as you would expect.
Using MF and APR of .001 and 2.4% respectively, putting $1000 down on a lease, you would expect to save interest on the $1000 or $24 a year.
But actually the yearly savings for the lease would be 12 * (1000*MF) = $12. The problem is you only affected the average by $500 which is ot what they apply the interest.

Even on a loan, putting an extra $1000 down doesn't save interest on the full $1000 for the full term. You can do the math. It works exactly the same with a lease. When you put $1000 extra down, you pay down principle at a lower amount per month, which means you give back some of the interest gained. The only way to save the full amount of interest on the $1000, would be to keep the same payment, whether loan or lease, and pay the loan off with fewer payments.
