Happy holidays! 0.00226 money factor seems very high (~5.4% APR). Does it mean this vehicle is expensive to lease from the first place? Is there any way to lower the montly rental charge? My understanding is the rental charge is pretty much fixed regardless of discounts and incentives, correct?

I realized that monthly rent amount is calculated by multiplying money factor by sum of adjusted capitalized cost (net of discount/incentives/dowm payment) and residual value. Perhaps better to put some moeny down if I don't want to pay ~5% APR over 36 months?

The money factor is high, but that doesn't necessarily translate into an expensive lease payment (but, it doesn't help). You have to take into account the residuals, the lease incentives and the size of the discount from the dealer.

I think HMF struggles with lease end residual values, and this is the path that Hyundai has chosen. Given those resale values, they would rather have you buy, than lease. The rental charge is a function of the money factor, but also the residual and the adjusted CAP cost. So, it will definitely vary, depending on the discounts and incentives you negotiate. It isn't fixed.

What if you negotiate $3000 off sticker, and have almost $5000 in lease cash on top of that. Seems like the best route would be to lease...except the high money factor. In that scenario, wouldn’t it make sense to lease to take advantage of the incentives, and then just payoff the lease right away, as opposed to even paying cash upfront? Does that provide a lower overall cost, or do they charge you that high rent charge/interest for all 36 months, even if you pay it off right away?

For Hyundai, what you propose does seem to make sense.

A friend of a friend did that with a Kona some months back.

And, found out that the rent charge for future payments are not charged if you buy out the lease.

But, not sure you can get $3000 off sticker, before the incentives
