Over the last 2 weeks we've slid up from $2.59 to $2.75 for RUG. And an odd observation, the pricing on the sign you can see from the street is showing the price for RUG and the lower price for E85 rather than the diesel price. Not sure I've seen that before
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 236,527
There are a couple of Shell stations on I-75, North of Dayton. They have really, really low prices for RUG, and they are legitimate. But, if you need PUG, the spread is $1.10/gallon over RUG. So, they aren't lying. But, it really frosts my ---

I think I paid $3.11 for Chevron diesel yesterday, which is now 7 cents more than RUG, IIRC.

Topped off with just under 17 gallons of PUG for $2.939, includes 6 cents additional for using credit.

Heck, state and federal taxes total 77.1 cents per gallon here in PA. Only about 28% of the price at the pump :(

KY and OH have low gas taxes. Both states looking at substantial increases, because our roads have gone to hell.

Our roads have gone to hell even with the taxes. Oh wait, I forgot...we still have 10 cents in gas tax from 1994 that was supposed to be temporary for extra money for snow plowing for the WAY higher than average snowfall that year. They must be using a different dictionary than me for the definition of temporary :)
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Nah, the "temporary" meant until it goes up again!

🤣 Well I think the legislators want to give voting public 3. things: 1. higher taxes 2. bad to worse roads 3. temporary renewable to “in perpetuity”

Now that I've moved from a 4cyl diesel to a PUG TTV6, I expect prices to rise and rise again.

And you are getting your expectations?! 😜😩 But give us your impressions of the new ride.

But as I have posted some time back, the real profit is in ULSD, not gasoline. So even though the price of gasoline rises, the greater % profit is still in ULSD.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 57,131
Hasn't needed gas yet. I think PUG here is in the 3.80 range, so there will be some hurt.

Actually in the stop 'n go grind, mileage is barely less than the Bluetec. But on the highway, I will feel it a little more. It sure is fast and smooth anyway.

Indeed, not as many as I should have. I had it for 33.5 months, I seldom average over 700 miles a month. I hope the new owner has a 100 mile/day open road commute to put it to good use.

Barely enough mileage for a 30,000 mile OCI.😉 (oil/ filter change interval)

    PUG $3.87 locally
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 57,131
I'll stick to the 10K interval in the book, which I only had to do twice in my Bluetec tenure. I think mpg for that car was something around 30 during my time, which included a lot of red light to red light (thanks, "engineers") suburban grind. It would easily get into the 40s on a road trip though, and that on diesel which is now cheaper than RUG here, at least for now.

Given the article posted, the response is short on details. Indeed there are ZERO details.

Though that might be the case, it seems any reason is an excuse to raise prices. Prices no longer increase in .01-.05 increments, but .20+. and decrease in smaller amounts.

Got up @3:30 am to drop off family at the airport.
For some reason, on the return trip, I remembered to look at the prices at a station nearest my house.
    RUG $2.659 Diesle $3.139, so .48 spread.

I filled up the Jetta over the weekend, and noticed the price I paid was only .01 different from the price I paid a month ago.

Then I realized I put in RUG with this tank, rather than the mid-grade I normally use.

Guess I'll need to pay attention to any performance or MPG differences with this tank.

Is this an interesting component of fuel pricing? https://finance.yahoo.com/news/black-eye-apos-permian-flares-090000514.html

    RUG $ 3.85

    PUG $ 4.15

    ULSD $ 4.09

Not much cost involved in flaring, just waste.

Most would roll around in bliss to have products with little to no costs.

I’ve read articles that say that more natural gas products are vented/flared than SOLD worldwide.

Gasoline, back Rockefellers standard oil days used to be considered WASTE. Diesel fuel was the desired market driven products.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 10,700
Not even close. About 141 billion m3 flared in 2017, 3,670 billion m3 consumed, so about 4% flared.

Well CA is one of our red state buddies for gas taxes, but PA still has a bit of an edge ;)

So the underlying GAS costs $1/gal more in CA (roughly)

  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
I bet supply & demand would be the explanation for that... uh huh

    WA gets the bronze medal!!

There's something depressing. PA's state gas tax is higher than the total state & federal tax of 43 states :(
