Can I get some feedback on an offer for a 2019 Accord manual transmission Sport model for 36mo/12k miles. California zip 94134?

    The quotation is as follows:

    MSRP: $27,075
    Sales Price: $24,494
    Doc Fee: $85
    Tax: $502.44
    DMV/State Fees: $966.75
    Net Price: $24,048.19
    Safelease: $815
    Balance: $26,634.31
*+$200 for logistics of bringing me an alternative color from manufacturer.

    This breaks down to:
Down payment: $2,600 (-$2,000 trade allowance on my 2005 Accord LX w/114k miles)
    Monthly payment: $251 (inc. taxes)

On a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being the best deal), how much of a good deal is this?

    Thanks

What is "Safelease", and why are you paying $22/mo. for it?
Apologies for the delay here, the dealer said the "safelease" served as a sort of damage waiver which would cover standard vehicle wear & tear up to a value of $5K. It is an option that I could forego but would take on the risk of being penalized for any damage the vehicle has incurred upon the conclusion of my 36 month lease period. Standard practice?

    Okay, need some input please!!

This is for a 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L Blue Pearl.

I received a final offer from the dealer.

    $27,999 +TTL (includes destination)

However I am planning on trading in my 2010 Mazda 3 with 59k miles (has a lot of dings, dents, scratches, windshield damage etc for $3555 (maybe I could get $5500 to $6000 privately but would have to out a few hundred into it to clean it up and I don't want to deal with trying to sell it privately)

So this is the breakdown with the trade:

    MSRP $32615
    Dealer Savings $5115

    Dealer Price $27500
    Premium Window Tint $499
    Vehicle Selling Price $27999

    Trade in Value $3551

    DIFFERENCE $24448

    Sales tax 1906.95
    Doc fee $499
    Tire/Battery/MVWEA $5.00
    Title fee $4.00
    Lieu Tax $547.93
    Postage $3.00
    Tag/Registration fees $8.25
    Air Quality $1.50
    Public Safety fee $32.00

    OTD with trade in $27,455.63.

Is this a smoking deal to jump on or no? Doc fees in the Phoenix area are $400 to $500 and the lieu Tax I believe is the first year of registration for the vehie in AZ. The public safety fee is some new fee the state imposed at the new year to help rebuild roads or whatever.

The tint is ridiculous but they will not remove it. They did remove the propack as I mentioned in an earlier post.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Any opinions on the deal would be appreciated. Need to make a decision tomorrow!

Pretty high priced insurance. $800 for a maximum benefit of $5000?

Especially, when Honda Finance has a reputation for being lenient at lease end.

I already broke down your deal without the trade-in.
I would not pay $499 for "premium tint". I would ask the dealer to split that cost 50/50 (You only pay $249).

Why do you need to make a decision by tomorrow? Is the dealer pressuring you?

Will do, I am assuming your sales price includes the destination charge? I meant 23,000 plus the 920 destination.

Yes, the destination fee is part of the sale price I listed. Dealers who give you a quote by separating the destination fee are just playing games. As I stated, all car buyers pay a destination fee.

I guess $1k below invoice should be doable then, but let's see if you can do better than that this early in the year.
@Drew4545 - Did you end up making a deal last month or are you still looking?

I ended up test driving a 2019 Accord LX last weekend and I liked everything about it. I have started negotiating and planning to buy it this weekend. This is currently my best quote:

    MSRP: $24,615.00
    Savings: $4,630.86
    Price: $19,984.14

+$1,057.00 ($399 for tint, $359 for floor mats, trunk tray, and wheel locks, $299 for a film that protects around the doors and trunk)

    After tax and registration fees:
    OTD Price: $23,024.71

This seems like a very good price to me but I am wondering if anyone thinks I can negotiate it lower? I am eligible for a $500 incentive so that should put it down to around $22.5k. When I test drove the accord the dealer told me that they put all of those addons on their cars as soon as they arrive. I am not completely sure if this is true but I got 5 other quotes and the next best is $23,572 with nothing added on. The tint and other addons seem too expensive but I am not sure if there is even much room to negotiate. I am happy to have them on the car but was wondering what I should counter offer? Thanks in advance for any advice!

You can always negotiate the price of accessories/dealer add-ons. $359 for floor mats seems excessive. Check out college hills Honda's website for pricing on accessories. You can either ask the dealer to match their price or work with another dealership.
Read up on tactics for negotiating your best price the last two days of the month. What are the dealer's doc fees?

so this weekend I am going to check out a 2019 Honda Accord Sport 2.0 AT. How much do you guys think would be a good price without taxes and fees? I am in the Orlando, FL area. I know one dealer offered me invoice on the car but they want to charge me like $4,000 in taxes and fees which is ridiculous. Invoice is $28,086. Is it possible to get $1,000 under invoice?

Before walking into a dealership, I would suggest reaching out to as many dealers as possible in your area for their best price. When requesting an online quote, make sure the dealer includes the following info:

    1. MSRP of the car (listed on windows sticker). You can find this info on Honda's website.
    2. Sale price of the car excluding incentives, but including the destination fee (If you are not sure, always ask).
    3. Cost of accessories on the car (if any).
    4. Dealer doc fees (The lowest I have seen it in FL is $799)
    5. License and registration fees ( Should the same for all dealers).
    6. Any incentives you qualify for.

You can calculate the sales tax using the sales price of the car. Is it 6% tax in Florida?
As far as pricing, it depends on your location. Once you start getting quotes, you will have a better idea of whether $1k below invoice is possible on this car.

How soon are you looking to buy? This month?

@themau_ You are going to have to do some research. Read up on previous posts for info about tactics.

Only walk into a dealership to test drive the car. I would suggest not wasting your time talking numbers without having any information (what i posted earlier). You will be negotiating blind. If you plan to finance the car, make sure you know what your credit score is. Some dealers and sales people have been known to lie or misrepresent information. At the end of the day, you are free to walk out anytime if you feel you are not being given accurate info or your salesperson is untrustworthy. Do not sign any paperwork unless the numbers you are being presented add up or make sense.

    Good luck.

Southern California from two dealers for 2019 ACCORD EX

    Retail $27,525
    (only comes with CLEAR SHIELD)

    $28,197 OTD

Not really thrilled on the price. They said they would only move a couple hundred. Brought this quote to another dealer that would only take $50 off lol. Input?

MSRP for this car (from Honda's website) is $28,540 (including the $920 destination fee).
Invoice price is $26,187. Your "Retail Price" is about $1338 above invoice. What is the cost of the clear shield? I would ran away from both dealers.

You can reach out to more dealers in your area or expand your search radius. If you are not in a rush to buy, do more research and wait for the last two days of the month to try and get your best pricing.

    Good luck.

Clear shield is only $395 (they said they couldnt remove it since it's on the car already). I didn't feel like it was a good price based on my research that's why I walked. They weren't willing to go lower (or maybe I need better negotiating tactics). Regardless I was looking for a much better deal. Thanks for your input, it really helps on this discussion board.

    Hello everyone,

The numbers I have now from dealerships in north cal for 2019 Accord EX:
    Selling price: $24715
    Dealer added accessories: $1057
    Tax:$1876.81
    Other fees:$444.75

I got this quote on Mar. 31. Is there any way to get a lower selling price?

    What is the MSRP?

    Is your selling price $24715? Or, $24715 + $1057?

MSRP is $28515, the selling price is 24715+1057=25772. Sorry for misleading. The manager said they can give me some discounts on accessories although I don't need them at all.

So your OTD would be $28,093.56 after taxes and other fees? That's better than the first quote I got in the dealership in Southern Cali which was $28,200 OTD with only $400 Clear Shield added. I used that quote on two other dealers I'm negotiating with now. I want to get the OTD closer to $27,000 which one said over email "we can very very close to that" (although they never gave me a specific price because they want me to come in).

If I got the price for the Accord EX to $27,000 OTD (without an accessories) is that a good deal?

If that selling price includes the destination fee I would buy the car TODAY (if I was in the market). How low do you want to go with the selling price? Are you paying the full $1k in accessories or are they giving you a discount?

@donmilk - Make sure you get a breakdown of the 26k or 27k OTD from the dealer, such as:
    • Selling price (before any incentives)
    • Any incentives
    • Cost of any accessories
    • Dealer doc fees
    • Title and registration fees
This info will help others on this forum looking to buy the same model.

Good luck and post back once you have signed your deal.

About to go in tomorrow to another dealer. I said I needed a better deal than the $28,192 I got (with only $335 clear shield to that price). If I can get the price below $27,000 out the door here (without any accessories) here in So Cal you think I should pull the trigger? I envy some of the deals people got on here lol. But I understand that those prices are from different states...

I already provided you with some suggestions and feedback. I do not see the need to walk into a dealership unless you have already negotiated pricing via phone or email. You might be wasting your time. You are not going to get the best pricing at the beginning of the month. If you really need a car now and want to pull the trigger, then that's up to you.

    Good luck.

    Hey Blue,

I have received 10+ quotes here over email. Best pricing was around $25,000 before taxes and fees. I have read that the best time is at the end of the month and when I got the quote for $28,200 out the door that was on 3/30. No need to say I was pretty disappointed in that price and walked out. I've used that quote and emailed back dealers to beat it, some say they can only do $200 or so off the price. I told them I want the car around $27,000 out the door, more than half of them told me outright no they cant do that. One however said they are confident we can make that happen (who knows if that's just a tactic to get me in). But as far as pricing here in So Cal it seems they are pretty stiff based on my quotes and the few So Cal quotes I've seen on this thread. You're right though, I'll wait till the end of the month and negotiate again.

$25k? If that was a real price and included the destination fee without any incentives (you did not qualify for), I would have jumped on it. Any reason you did not pull the trigger then?

One other piece of advice I have for you - Most dealers are not going to give you their best price right off the bat. Dealers who claim they can beat another dealer's best offer by a few hundred dollars should be ignored. Telling a dealer you want the car for $XX,XXX is not going to fly 9/10.

Keep a list of dealers you have emailed with a breakdown of the top 3 with the lowest price. Always make sure the sale price includes the destination fee and does not include any incentives you may not qualify for. If you are not sure, ask the dealer to clarify. If they start to play games, move on. I am sure in your area, there must be more than 10 Honda dealers. You might have to email/contact more dealers towards the end of the month. When you do, I would suggest putting them on the spot telling them you will BUY TODAY at say $XXXX below invoice.

Only walk into the dealership to inspect the car and sign the papers. Before signing, review the numbers and make sure they match what was communicated to you. You are always free to walk if dealer plays games.

    Good luck.

    Hey Blue,

I think I got confused when I brought up my quote on the previous page on this thread. When I said I got a quote for $28,200 that was the out the door cost. Vehicle price was $25,240 before taxes. I got a reply from you saying that price was $1,338 above invoice but I think you might have thought that price was before the fees. So I've been thinking that quote for $28,200 was a bad deal. I do appreciate the advice, and you're right I could have approached some of these negotiating tactics better. It was funny because when I got the first quote from the dealer in person it was $35,000+ out the door! Of course they added all this nonsense that I didn't want (extended warranty, accessories, GAP protection, lifetime oil). The dealers weren't bad but they did make me wait 25-30 mins for the manager for the first quote and give me the "alot of people have been looking at this car, it might sell soon." A little annoying but it's part of the game I get it. But here is the paper as I think the destination fee was in the vehicle price as I don't see it in the quote?

    Good luck.

@tonychang1983 - Fyi, the price you had quoted for the EX was not $25k. It was $27,525. Even if you deduct the clear shield, it was still a bad deal. Hope this helps clarifies things.

It is a better deal but not that great if you include the clear shield. About $600 below invoice (including clear shield). I would find another dealer that has a car without any BS add-ons and with a price of at least $1k below invoice.

Thanks Blue. Trust me, clear shield is something I didn't even want on the car, they said it couldn't be removed. $335 for clear stickers that go inside the door handle is ridiculous. Thanks for all your help, I will definitely shoot for at least $1k below.

The lowest price I got today.
    MSRP:$28515
    Selling price:$23814
    Tax:$1971.67
    Doc fee:$85
    Non-taxable fee:$393.75
    OTD:$26264

Should I pull the trigger? However, the finance APR it provides is too high (12.5%). I will seek pre-approval from other credit union or banks.

What area are you in again don?  What model Accord is this quote for?  And is the dealership giving you that absurd APR?

I live in CA and the model is 2019 EX. The dealer just said the APR is decided by banks and need some documents to apply.

To me that’s an excellent base price but something is off with the APR.  I’ve never heard an APR that absurdly high for a car (or anything besides credit cards) lol.  I would ask another dealer what the financing options are.  You might be able to find them on the dealer website too.

Just as an FYI, the average APR for a new car loan is around 6.3%.

Dealers often quote higher APRs (or, if leasing, higher MFs) before credit is run, just to play it safe.

Looking at the Honda Dealer Websites here it's

4.49% financing for 37-60 months on Accord Sedan. (Expires: 04/30/19)

3.9% financing for 24-36 months on Accord Sedan. (Expires: 04/30/19)

Based on good credit of course. Last month it was 1.9% and 2.9%.

That is a solid deal. If my numbers are right that's more than $2200 below invoice. I would pull the trigger. Before you do so, a few questions for you.

    1. Does the sale price include any finance incentives? (If you are not sure, ask. Sometimes dealers provide additional incentives for financing through Honda Financial Services).
    2. Regarding the APR, did the dealer run your credit? If yes, what was the number he used for this quote?
    3. As you have stated, your best bet will be to seek outside financing through a credit union.

Good luck and let us know how things go.

  • Hi everyone! I'm looking to buy/finance a new 2019 Accord sport 2.0t automatic. I'm in central, NC, and after emailing about 10 dealerships 29,999 out the door has come up as the best price.

I want the car and don't absolutely need it, so, there is no hurry. Do you think I can get them to go lower than that, maybe at the end of the month?

Thanks in advance for your input!
