Does the current lease special running by Hyundai for the Kona look like a good deal? Is there anything i should/can negotiate? I am planning on buying in Reno, NV unless I can get lower fees in SLC, UT

Skip the $2170 cap cost reduction and take the higher payment.

And, you may (should?) be able to negotiate a lower selling price than that offered in the ad.

So I understand, after negotiating the price of the car, the lease cash comes off like a down payment? If the price is negotiated at $20,000 and the lease cash comes off, I am paying $17,000? Sorry, I'm new to the leasing world!

What is the purpose of skipping the $2170 cap cost reduction on their lease deal and taking the higher payment? Hyundai also has a $3000 lease cash. Can you only take one?

Yes, that is correct. Negotiate your best price, then the lease cash acts like a down payment

The whole idea of a lease is to pay as you go. If you pre-pay some of that lease amount, the total cost of the lease doesn't change, just the monthly payment.

And, if the car is stolen or totaled during the lease, that up front money will not be returned to you. Would you pre-pay rent on an apartment?

Thank you for the quick response! I see in the Edmunds TMV tool, there is a $750 rebate. Is this available only for purchase transactions, or is it applicable to a lease as well?

And in general with 'lease cash', the dealers likely believe this is partially 'their' money, and bolsters their demand for near MSRP sell price. Has anyone had success negotiating the full lease cash off, coupled with a selling price in the TMV or Invoice range?

The $750 is for purchase only.

For Hyundai, the lease cash is a customer incentive, and will show up on the contract as a cap reduction.

Always negotiate your best price.

Sorry, 14580 zip. Not putting that much down, only paying taxes/fees up front. This was a dealer spreadsheet when I asked them to compare it to a deal I saw advertised that required $2,399 down. ($3,806 = taxes/fees + $2,399)
