@nyccarguy I'm not familiar with the market, but I can't believe Fits are only $200 off sticker. The Sonic is a viable competitor, IIRC, and I think Hyundai and/or Kia have something, as well. I'm guessing a Civic or Corolla hatch would be even more.
There isn’t much money in the Fit to begin with.  They are the perfect size inside and out for deliveries.  There’s NO WAY a Sonic would hold up as well as the Fits do.  Not to mention the INSANE resale value of the Fit.  He had Ford Econoline Vans for the longest time.  When gas went nuts high after Katrina and his vans needed replacing (and were sucking down $100 every 3-4 days) he decided to downsize.  I told him to look at the Fit, but he went with (2) Chevy HHR because it was a few thousand cheaper.  The HHRs were literally falling apart after 50K miles.  He bought (2) ‘09 Fits and he’s hooked.

Yeah - we've pretty much seen all or most of the listings - his preference is a 2010/11 that has a battery that hasn't degraded excessively. Looks like the blue 2008 has around 140 miles of range fully charged. The gray 2010 is charging to 200 mile range. Also, the 2010/11s apparently have better info tech features. He's still working with the dealer on the price to see if they can come to terms.

Kind of surprised people pay that kind of money for them. I’d sooner get an Elise SC. Or, better yet, a much newer Alfa 4c.

Where (location, not just zip code), any dings that might be on Carfax? All this will help qbrozen. Just FYI, why are you getting rid of it so soon, if that’s not intrusive to ask.

Which, of course, means the most practical, most logical answer would be a minivan. (ducking and running for cover)

Part of me wants to get an older minivan (something low mileage, maybe senior owned). Then just lease two nice cars for my wife and I to commute to work.

Van would be used just for trips with the family and gear in tow.

I don’t have data on the 2019 RDX. Only one example with 5k miles. If that one is any indicator, I think you may be looking at about $28k.

@tjc78 If it's an 'extra' car for work and long trips, you could consider spending $20k for a brand-new Grand Caravan. It's a lot of car for the money, has pretty much everything you'd want, and you don't have to sift through the used selections. Most of the kind of vans you'd buy used -- i.o.w. from people with money and sense -- started life with plenty of bells and whistles and are quite old by the time they get to be significantly cheaper.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 32,926
I’m afraid to think how decontented our van would need to be to hit $20k. Does that even have seats?

I don't think you can hit $20k. According to TrueCar, you can hit $22k on the SE model Grand Caravan. No stow-n-go seats, no USB ports, no bluetooth. The SE Plus would seem to be the minimum that anyone would actually buy for themselves rather than as a company vehicle. And that one would set you back about $26k.

I would recommend, instead, something like this one:

How long did they sell the VW Voyager version? 2012-ish? One of the later ones with the Pentastar engine might also work.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 50,489
well, a Chrysler product that you need to deal with VW service department for? That does not sound like an optimal situation.

though I guess by now out of warranty so can take it anywhere. Indy, or if you want dealer, just go to the Chrysler dealer since all the mechanical bits are the same.

Not "Voyager". That was the Plymouth version of the Caravan, back when Plymouth was still around. It was called the VW Routan.

I know. I always called it the VW Voyager, because there was no Plymouth anymore, and because I thought it had a better ring to it. ;)

Assuming no runs/hits/errors, and assuming it has no maintenance needs, right about $28k.

No need to be sorry.  The more information you provide, the more accurate answer @qbrozen can give you.

If your truck was somewhere in the south, the fact that it has 4WD wouldn’t matter as much as it does that it is in NH (where a 2WD truck would be unsellable).

Hi Q - was wondering if you could magically come up with any auction info on this Tesla Roadster - it's a 2010 and very clean with about 57,000 miles on it. It appears that the dealer picked it up at auction around the end of April.
    The VIN is 5YJRE1A34A1001157

Also, any idea of what a fair retail value might be?

    Thanks

    They paid $38.5k.
what are they asking for it?
For most cars, I’d say $41k, but I have a feeling this would be tough given the rarity. Might need to cough up another $1k.

This board is always so helpful and I am thinking my next vehicle will be a used electric.
The EV's with range over 200 miles seem to hold their value pretty well- which as of now is Tesla and Chevy Bolt.
Most asking prices on 2017 Bolt Premier are high $20's which is what I can get a new one for with dealer discount and after 3750 tax credit.
Are these bolts doing well at the auctions?
I would think that EV's like the i3, leaf, and e-golf are a good value on the secondary market.

2017 Bolt LT with 24k'ish miles is about $22k at the block. Should be an easy buy at $25k.

HOWEVER, does it really make sense at $7k-$7500 more than a 2017 Volt LT?

It's June, and that means it's time to get some figures @qbrozen

    First Up:

    1) 2017 VW Alltrack SE 1.8T DSG White Exterior, Black Interior, 30,000 miles. In good shape but the rear bumper did have to be reworked after a parking lot ding. I noticed you can tell the rear bumper was repainted on the edge between the taillight and the metal. Probably above average body shop work, but my advice on body shops is to look from 5' away or more. San Diego.

    Second up:

    2) Lease return, currently 2016 Kia Optima LX Turbo 1.6T Sedan, White metallic, beige interior (still mostly black), 32,000 miles, dual clutch auto. Good condition. San Diego. Will anyone other than Kia offer a deal worth returning the lease early? Starting to get emails from Kia that they really want '16 Optimas, go figure!

@qbrozen -- this is strictly for entertainment value, as my lease won't be turned in for another six months or so, but I'd like to know what the market is for these now. The car below is a hatchback manual, so it's probably better to see what the value is for hatch autos... but maybe there are some out there, who knows.

    2017 Chevrolet Cruze hatchback LT
    Burgandy™ over black cloth.
    15k miles
    Smoke- pet- accident- free, clean.
I can't find my ZIP code but the location is 42.74, -84.50 degrees.

Thanks in advance.. if you get around to it.
I'll ask in anger some time around Thanksgiving.
    Greetings from mid-Michigan ;)

@qbrozen -- this is strictly for entertainment value, as my lease won't be turned in for another six months or so, but I'd like to know what the market is for these now. The car below is a hatchback manual, so it's probably better to see what the value is for hatch autos... but maybe there are some out there, who knows. 2017 Chevrolet Cruze hatchback LT Burgandy™ over black cloth. 15k miles Smoke- pet- accident- free, clean. I can't find my ZIP code but the location is 42.74, -84.50 degrees. Thanks in advance.. if you get around to it. I'll ask in anger some time around Thanksgiving. Greetings from mid-Michigan ;)
Apparently you have the only manual made. ;b

I’ll take a stab at $10.5k. That’s about an $800 hit for the handshaker by the book in my imagination.

    Thanks, q!

    Funny.
Also funny: our new neighbors across the street just got a new Cruze sedan. Manual. Must be something in the water.

Ya, definitely. Their next door neighbor has three Saabs..

So I'm going to have to pony up around twelve k to buy this thing....not bad for a nearly new car that I kinda like to drive...but it feels a little fragile. Paint  is thin, fast shifting into 2nd leads to grinding... do I trust the turbo?  I'ma  have to think how much we like it as time goes on.

With our super short commutes of less than ten minutes, and sharing rides in the cold months, the ultimate luxury isn't leather seats and quiet, it's a small engine that heats up fast and seat heaters sourced from the toaster factory.

At my age and station in life, I should be driving a 2009 E class wagon and try to look like I bought it new...

@steine13 for a short commute, I’m a big fan of remote start (which I don’t think they offer from the factory with a manual).  GM really does it right, the seat heaters and rear window defroster also turn on.

    Hi all,

I am looking to see what the real world trade in value is on the following truck. I pulled KBB but want to see what folks here think.

    2017 Chevy Silverado Crewcab, 4x4,
    LTZ trim level,
    black
    Z71
    Sunroof
    17xxx miles

    It's in very good condition

    Zip = 03894

Looking to trade towards a new Ram

Thanks and let me know if you need more info.

    Bill

    Which engine?
    any past paintwork?
    any bad news on carfax?
    -==-=-=-=-=-=-=- end quoted material =-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I was going to say, the engine would almost have to be the 5.3L. But ... it could possibly be the 6.2L, not very likely, but could be.

Again, sorry. 5.3 liter V8. It is having some minor paint work done right now on the right rear quarterpanel. Minor scuffing that needs to be touched up.

Hmmm... what exactly does that mean? Who is paying for it? How much will the bill be?

It means I side swiped my sons truck in my driveway at slow speed and scuffed up the paint on the right rear quarter panel and my insurance is paying for the repairs/paint right now. When I go to trade it it will look brand new.

I did not know that about GM but ya, that's how it should be done. The seat heater in my Subaru was so tepid I didn't care about getting the feature again... by the time it made a difference, there was heat from the engine, so who cares. In the Cruze, it comes on quickly. Wife loves it. Also in my family, seat heaters are a source of entertainment on summer drives...

As far as I know, NOBODY sells a manual transmission car with a remote start. The reason is pretty obvious; I could install one myself but I've got almost four decades of muscle memory leaving my car in gear... so I'm one failed interlock away from a mishap with serious downside potential. Also it's wasteful. Until the previous winter, I used to ride my bicycle to work at least a couple times a week, in the snow. Very entertaining, but I'm scared of distracted drivers. Anything with a windshield is a step up...

    Ouch.
It is always difficult to price things like this without laying hands on it. With the resprayed panel and pending carfax ding, I’m going to hit it at about $31k-$32k. That’s not to say you won’t get lucky and a UCM will totally lose his/her mind and give you 35. I certainly wouldn’t if it were me, though.

If you have a garage it's really not needed. I use it occasionally in the winter if there is frost on the windows. On a crazy hot day I've been known to start it with the phone app from my office about 5 minutes before I leave because I'm a wuss who hates to be hot.
