How does this change for the limited trim? We drove that today and of course, my wife wants the added features. We got preliminary numbers which floored me in comparison to the advertised incentives on the base. It was damn near Tesla territory.

The advertised lease deal right now is on the base trim. $2500 down, 12K miles, $239/month. That does not include Taxes and Fees (ad assumes you pay them).

I went in expecting to see if I could beat that, but then my wife wanted the limited trim which is what we tested (they didn't have any base in stock). The quote they gave me on limited is:

MSRP: $37,735
Cap Cost: $37,435
Doc: $399
Government Fees: $170
Rebate: $8,000
Customer Cash Down: $3,000
Net Residual: $17,735.45 (47%)
Money Factor: .001240

Monthly Payment: $383.62

This seems to have included doc and fees into the financing as he said no more than $3000 would be due at signing. However, it was only 10K miles/yr.

My plan was to come back with a request to get to 12K miles/yr, $2500 cap cost down, $300/month, we pay doc and fees separately. From playing with the numbers, this is possible if they'll set the cap cost around $36050, and the MF at .00084.

Having never leased a car before, I have no real idea if this is greedy, just right, or not greedy enough! Any advice?

First, .00124 represents the max markup allowed to the MF. Tell them you won't sign any deal unless you get the base MF. Move on to another dealer if they refuse.

In MA, we recommend you pay only the first payment and RMV costs at signing; anything beyond that would be lost if the car is stolen or totaled. Fees and any up front taxes can be rolled into the cap cost and made part of the payment.

They were pushing a 995 ‘wear and tear’ type of insurance that seemed to by an empty charge. Any advise on such ‘wear and tear insurance’ ? Both the Kia and Hyundai local dealers tried to include such in the lease numbers. Your advise, is this nothing more than the new version of invisible undercoat protection? Or is it real value? Thank you.

BTW, you know the dealership is trying to rip you off when the finance guy cannot answer a simple question ‘what is the money factor’ behind the numbers he is presenting to me as the math does not add up. The next clue was the ‘wear and tear insurance listed at $995. I had them bring down the MF to the August 0.00084 for the ionic EV and then thanked them and walked out. Many other Hyundai dealerships in the area to chose from.

My apologies - those are not the EV numbers, but the PHEV program I quoted.

There are no Ioniq EV program numbers for Maryland, it seems. May only be valid in certain states.

You should refuse any deal with a marked up money factor.

2) Is there a standard state/federal rebate for this car, or is it dependent on the buyer and the region?

3) If anyone has thoughts on how it compares to the Leaf, I'd love to hear it (and sorry if this is the wrong forum for that question).
