One dealership I’m working with told me that Mazda always requires 1st payment at and “registration fees” at singing in addition to Any $$ put down. The other says the $1000 down is all inclusive. In looking at my last lease agreement with the first dealership mentioned, I put $1000 down and then I paid first payment and I was also hit with a hefty “sales and use tax” (which inflated my $$ due at signing from $1,265 to almost $1900!!). I want to do all that I can to avoid that this round. Am I being deceived by the dealership I used last time? If I put $1000 down at the other will Mazda eventually send me a bill later for “sales and use tax”? Thanks again

Tax in NYS is collected upfront. It's either paid upfront, or rolled into the CAP cost.

One dealer put it in your upfront money, and the other added it to the CAP cost.

Thanks for the help! I had a question regarding lease fee “requirements”. One dealership I’m working with told me that Mazda always requires 1st payment at and “registration fees” at singing in addition to Any $$ put down. The other says the $1000 down is all inclusive. In looking at my last lease agreement with the first dealership mentioned, I put $1000 down and then I paid first payment and I was also hit with a hefty “sales and use tax” (which inflated my $$ due at signing from $1,265 to almost $1900!!). I want to do all that I can to avoid that this round. Am I being deceived by the dealership I used last time? If I put $1000 down at the other will Mazda eventually send me a bill later for “sales and use tax”? Thanks again
Tax in NYS is collected upfront. It's either paid upfront, or rolled into the CAP cost.

One dealer put it in your upfront money, and the other added it to the CAP cost.
Thanks for clarifying. I assume I’m better off adding to the cap cost then vs up front? Does it matter either way?

NYS is kind of weird. When you roll it in, the tax is slightly higher (tax on tax, more or less). For NY, I'd pay it upfront, though the difference isn't anything major.
