wildcat is pretty cool for the $$.

If they consider the interior of that R32 clean, I'd hate to see what they consider dirty.

When I was in jr high there was a HS senior named Randall with a 2 door version of that Wildcat. Great daily driver back then. I like the 4 door HT too. Somebody wants it.

If the 442 is a local car and has been cared for, I'd wager there's no real rust.

My driver's ed car was a blue Acclaim almost identical to that Spirit. It was nearly new then.

Looks like the Ford pickup and 240D automatic might have sold, deleted already.

Now you've got me poking around for imports again.

Can't really say why, but I think I'd dig having one of these. https://www.duncanimports.com/used/Toyota/1991-Toyota-Century-f63b8c2b0a0e08ba63cbe05598e7141b.htm

I like the Century too, a lot of car for the money.

IIRC in 2 years the V12s will be available for import, might be worth waiting for, and the prior ones will become even cheaper.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 32,934
is the v12 really the way to go?
4.0 v8 seems to be the way to go, no? Is that any relation to the 4.0 v8 used in the LS400 here? Because that thing is bulletproof.

It's a Toyota, it has to be flawless, right? B) I don't think it is the LS engine.

With the prices on these, you'll probably be able to get both for 20K combined.

FB marketplace suggested this project for me, all I can think is "good gawd". Seller's feed might also hint at a little delusion.

This is pretty nice, but am I being critical that the wiring under hood looks a little scary. Lots of crimp connects, etc.

I like it. But $35k of work? Man, they saw him coming!

I can't imagine paying more than $15k for it, frankly. But I'm sure the BAT crowd will surpass that big time. I'll take a WAG that the bidding goes to $25k or so.

Here is a strange one, and on Hemmings auctions no less. They started the auction site as a clear competitor to BaT but don't seem to be attracting much interest. Having cars like this doesn't help them much.

    https://www.hemmings.com/auction/1970-oldsmobile-cutlass

It's a '70 Cutlass according to the VIN. It has been modified to be a 4-4-2 "tribute", which I always found distasteful but whatever, lots of people do things like that. Of course that is just cosmetic in this case as it still has the 350 under the hood. But wait, there's more!

The VIN says 1970, but that is a '71 front clip and hood. So is the rear end and taillights. The outside mirrors are '71 also, as the '70 version were different and hard to find. The interior is a mishmash of 1970, '71, and '72 bits. And the engine is not a 1970 either according to the cylinder heads.

Apparently this car has been offered on FB Marketplace for $25K with no takers obviously. It appears to be a nice enough rebuild but who really knows what it is other than a real Frankenstein?

I don’t recall any 70-72 Cutlass without ac not having vent blanks where the ac vents would have been. It is also lacking the rounded chrome strip trim that went the length of the upper dash. Aftermarket replacement?

For '71/'72 at least some of them without AC had a dash like the one shown without blanks. I don't recall ever seeing one without the plastichrome strip though. It is available repro too, so maybe the guy forgot to order one.

  • sdasda Member Posts: 6,977
That plastichrome strip always irked me on mom’s 72 Cutlass Supreme. It sagged in places and didn’t fit tightly. The glove box door on my grandmother’s 68 Cutlass S and mom’s 72 Cutlass both fit poorly to the dash, with one corner always ticking out. This was when they were new. Thankfully that type of poor fit is rarely seen today. Otherwise they were both fine cars and fondly remembered.

Not a huge fan of vinyl roof cars, that one looks pretty nice, depending on how the auction and an inspection goes.

Those old diesels are getting a cult. Price is ahead of market, but maybe not insanely so.

Edsels are done, parts now, but low demand, so expensive parts.

Audi would be Russian roulette - you might win. By this point, everything that can fail (which is about 90% of the parts on one of these, right) must have been replaced.

Mustang could be fair given it is a manual.

Unless it has dexcool issues (did they exist that year?), old Buick is a steal of course.

I would be willing to give the Mustang a look. But that is way up in N. Jersey, not down here in S. Jersey!

As the Project Cars thread is also one for high priced cars, here are some from the recent Retro Classics event in Stuttgart. First, a nice low mileage (~30K miles) 220S - 57.5K Euro:

    image

Nice 300SE, I think the price is 89K Euro:

And offered by the MB Classic Center, a top quality low grille 280SE 3.5 coupe in an amazing color. Yes, that big number is the price:

I think only sedans have bobbleheads :)

380K Euro, so just north of $400K USD. That's for a virtual 100 point car restored by the factory, effectively better than new (and they price high anyway).

That's the holy grail 03-04. Definitely retail spec, hard loaded and unless the wheels were changed it has the handling package. That is rarely seen on 03+.

Mine had all the goodies, but no handling package.

I'm not a fan of the exterior color, but wouldn't snub my nose at it.

I wonder what it will go for. I thought the wheels and interior looked good, and I'm a sucker for a digital dash.

Maybe I should email the estate company and try to get a price. They just updated the listing - it's an 04.

Got a price on that Grand Marq. They claim the tires are new new, doesn't have a ding or a chip etc. They are "asking" $5800 "OBO" for it, although in the local chaos around here and for the fact that these estate companies need to get rid of everything, I bet it could be had for a bit less at the end of the sale, assuming it doesn't sell.

Aerostar is such an oddity to see in that condition

Baby Caddy, why do they always seem low in the rear? Blah colors

442 - love it awesome color

BMW .. sure go for it. I’m sure that handles great with that boat anchor now up front

Love the 442, but appears to have been repainted, which doesn’t align with the “barn find” claim. Unless the author meant “we once found it but have since messed with it.”

Lots of questions about that Delta. Can’t understand if seller is claiming that is an ACTUAL winning racecar.

The '68 4-4-2 not only appears to have been repainted, but the engine raises many questions. The seller's claim that it has the "original 455" is wrong, as '68s came with a 400 ci engine. Also the picture shows it to have blue paint, which means either someone repainted it incorrectly or that it is a later engine that was swapped in. That may not be a bad thing as the '68/'69 400 engine is a bit of a dog and are often replaced with 425s and 455s, but it is not the original.

The colors on the car are nice though and in a combination not often seen.

That is a handsome interior. Too bad it has the 4.1 V8. I had an 89 Seville with the 4.5. It was a better engine and powered that car nicely.

For some reason, the diesel Fleetwood is the most interesting thing to me from the list. That 85 has to be one of few survivors these days, I remember many of those were looking sad 20 years ago.
