I don't have any with half the miles, but one with 65k and another with 70k went at auction for $22.3k ea.

The worst example with 107k and below average condition traded hands at $15k.

Relatively miled up 4 owner 12 year old performance car located in one of the worst places for cars to age gracefully - what could go wrong? At least it's comparatively cheap.

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/255051425808963/ My first car was a 73 Charger so I partial. These cars have gotten expensive. I'd imagine you could do worse for this money if I look OK underneath

Lancia is a relative bargain if it is as good as it looks. I wonder if something is amiss.

There was indeed a 2 door Falcon wagon, I think I have seen a couple. quite uncommon.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
You aren't serious about a Lancia being a bargain? I knew a guy who worked at a large import dealership yers ago that sold Lancias. They called them Lawn Chairs because most of the time they sat around not running.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 57,139
60s Lancias and 70s Lancias (Fiats) are different animals. A 60s model is more similar to an Alfa, that's a modestly sporty little sedan which appears to have pleasing patina. 50s models had high build quality, and that one looks good, too. I can think of many worse ways to spend 8K.

Now a late 70s Lancia like a Beta, free might even be too much

Did your search include the words "awful handmade hood scoop" ??

Lancia is pretty sweet looking. The Falcon, OTOH, ... oh, that poor thing. Maybe I'm missing something, but that Skylark looks pretty awful to me. Panel fitment is all over the place.

The Lancia appears to be in remarkable condition - but I admit I have never seen one of that style before. Looks like it was designed with a T-square. Of the rest, I would take the Grand Prix (I like that design) and run away from the rest.

I like the style of the GP. Still too big for my taste of course. The Falcon is weird. The Lancia, looks remarkably clean. Too bad it isn't the 2 door version.

Looks like it was spotted at Curbside Classic where they're calling it gold. But yes that still makes it a rare combo.

Silver paint with red interior/top wasn't uncommon back then. It only seems strange today because silver paint nowadays is almost universally paired with black inside since we no longer have interiors available in other colors. I learned from the comments on the CC link that the hood tach was apparently available on the Catalina 2+2 so this is a dealer or owner add-on.

When I was a kid we had a '67 Pontiac Parisienne (a Canadian Cheviac!) 4-door HT, white w/ red interior, which I always liked.

Crazy that the same car was on Curbside Classic, small world. I had a suspicion the hood tach wasn't stock. I wonder what they will want for it - sometimes estate sale companies underprice cars, but usually shoot for the moon, not grasping the actual market, as these companies are kind of a jack of all trades, master of none when it comes to specific items. I checked out the ad as it mentioned vintage toys, which I sometimes like to flip - unfortunately didn't see anything insanely exciting in all of the old toy trucks.

Haven't taken the old dear out for a couple weeks as every weekend has been wet, but I might be buying a period accessory for the car. A friend found a 1960s era Thule ski rack that would fit my car, and he thinks it would be fun to have. It isn't terribly expensive, so I might do it - I've always thought a wood slat roof rack would be interesting, but those are so hipster now that it might be too flamboyant. Something more subtle could be cool though, it is identical to the one on the Amazon sedan in the beginning of this fun video:

    https://youtu.be/ByW0MKXZKbg

I'd probably have to get a pair or two of wooden skis to go with it.

The Pontiac is a 1967. Is this going to be an auction? I don't think our garage is deep enough!
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 57,139
Car is being sold at a sale this Friday, in Bothell. From my experiences with estate sale companies and cars, it will either be priced well and sell in the first few hours, or will be ludicrously priced, firmly, and be left as an albatross for the heirs to deal with at the end of the sale.

Seller added a couple more pics, including an (apparent repro) window sticker:

    And another unclear side view:

It doesn't just have a rear radio speaker either, but instead the rare and highly desirable "verbra-phonic" version, at a breathtaking $52.66 price.

Inflation calc says $1020 in today’s dollars, so pretty much the same for most makes I believe.

I've been watching a bunch of youtube video's by 'A Rural Vermonter'.
He's a young guy who buys cheap vehicles, fixes then up and resells them.
Seems like a nice kid who just figures thing out as he goes along.
I like the driving to buy something with the music parts of the video's.
Fixing up the next whatever is a bonus.

This mechanic got a 2008 Acura TL for $200, and as you can imagine it was trashed. He put c. $4000 in new parts into it, plus maybe a couple of thousand of his own labor, but now he has his daily driver. But it's still kind of a trashed car with high miles. I think it would have been better to start with something new, or at least in better shape....

What is a minty babied car worth? Under 10K? I think that might be the way to go, yeah.

That was certainly the nicest styled TL in my eyes. Acura got it so right before veering a bit.

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 57,139
You can get numerous Dyanes for the price of a good Universal - those are probably the most sought after fintail variant, and seem to have a cult around them.

25 year rule, they are all eligible, bring some in - but maybe beware that MI winter!
  • steine13steine13 Member Posts: 2,818
    I jest...

I had no idea there was a [factory??] wagon variant of the fintail. That is a cool car.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 57,139
Hey, some people love 2CVs, you never know.

The W111 Universal is the rarest variant, maybe a couple hundred units built (not sure), most were W110.

These were not factory built, but I believe were sold through official channels. No factory MB wagons until the 123 around 1979.

not sure of the story on it, but around the corner from my son's new house (in Albany) sitting on a residential driveway, was a new design BMW 3 series (almost positive it was the current model). with a smashed up front end, airbag laying on the dash, and a popped up in the back moonroof duct taped up. with an assortment of wrecking yard hieroglyphics written on the windows. I guess someone could be looking to be ambitious and repair it, but it looked beyond DIY in your garage time. Unless was pulling the drivetrain to do something else with it?

The comments about smoking were pretty funny. Fair deal providing it has no hidden roadworthiness issues, but one might have to be careful to stay in the black. It appears to need a heavy detail, and maybe some ozone work would take care of the smoke issue. I wonder if the W126 beside it is also part of the estate.

Many younger people have no interest in or love for malaise era domestics, just as many boomers have no interest in a Model T :)
