I would if I could.

We had a long exchange with a member a year or so back on this subject, and they linked to the relevant section of the revenue code for NY State. Couldn't even tell you which make / model this was for, but once we saw the information in the statute, we started recommending that sales tax be pre-paid in NY, rather than rolled into the payment. It's the only state where we make this recommendation.

Must be the week for High Altitudes. In CT, returned my 2017 JGC Limited lease and picked up a High Altitude. Much more car than I wanted but the deal was right. .42/12 - didn't want 42 but dealer threw in a 6 month mfg extended warranty for free.

The dealership offered to take our current JGC back and pay it off with no cost to us and get us into a 2020 for a lower payment. Seemed like good timing to me as the 2020s will likely be gone by March so I'd be leasing a 2021 right after being released which I assume would cost more - am I wrong?

You're not wrong.

And, with the strength of the current used car market, I can't say I'm surprised that you have equity.

But - and this is big - is the dealer offering you enough? Just paying off the remaining obligation may mean you are leaving money on the table.

Check with Carvana and/or Vroom, and possibly CarMax, to see what they will give you. Then, compare that to the lease buyout amount, which you can get from the bank, and compare that to what the dealer is offering.

You're not wrong.

Carvana and Vroom are great, but I also recommend check ALgo (AutoLendersGO) as they offered me twice what Carvana/Vroom offered on my GC.
Rodo also has been making strong offers. But def do it soon since used pricing is beginning to level off.
