no front tag, so I actually wondered. But I walked behind it and it had a normal Jersey plate on it. Plus looked like a darker interior.

I know Jersey basically extended expired tags indefinitely early on in the pandemic. No clue what the current rules are. Just glad my license expires in 12/2021, not last month.

Speaking of temp tags, I had to wait a week and a half before I am allowed into our DMV. I have an appointment for 0900 tomorrow. Once I get the plates in hand, the next stop is the post office to mail them off to my wife.

It appears I spoke too soon about the lottery app messing me over. Just got an email from them advising that I should be receiving a $4.00 prize deposited to my account. It's still a horribly designed app, though.

Well, you don’t see a Hawaii plate every day... bonus, my favorite restaurant is also in the frame. (No, it’s not the one on the left.)

That's not too bad, New York DMVs have gone all appointment based (which is great), but they have significantly reduced their capacity. I need to get a new license, and last I checked they were booking out into early April!!! It would make it very difficult to register a car purchased anywhere other than a dealership that can register it on site.

NJ had same issues with getting into DMV. though I believe they add a bunch more transactions that can be done online. And some paperwork you can do in advance.

Well, thank you. That makes me feel a lot better about the delay I experienced! On a good note, the actual in-person experience today was excellent: Quiet, low-stress, friendly, and took about twenty minutes in total.

That’s the plus. No longer spending 3 hours packed into a stinky DMV office waiting for your number to be called.

    Seriously?

Where is your evidence that you gave two key fobs back to Kia when you returned the Kia?

This has nothing to do with any other transaction.

I guess if you use your evidence criteria, then I am completely healthy because I was once healthy

Your argument is actually similar to Kia's, since I once had only one Key FOB made available for the pre-inspection, there could only be one Key FOB returned at a future date. Of course, that logic is faulty and subject to error.

I wasted 2 hours registering the S4 in CA at the DMV. It wasn't stinky, and chairs were 6' apart, but the 2 hours seems eerily similar to previous visits.

@explorerx4 - that's unfortunate, maybe keep that dealer on your radar and see whether anything else that interests you pops up on their lot?

@sda - CarMax stopped doing the super thorough reconditioning that made them famous quite some time ago. I remember seeing a Land Rover in their showroom with only 4,000 miles that had the aluminum trim in the center console beaten all to heck. Back in the old days, that would have been replaced.

Apparently mismatched colored bumpers passes CarMax's "rigorous" review standards too. Shame.

I had to get the Arizona S4 smogged in CA today, because I couldn't complete the registration in CA without it. Now, in 2021 as a 2015 model it's 6 years old, but a year ago CA got smart and raised the first smog check after purchase to 8 years from 6. However, all other 49 States be damned, if you bring a car in, your getting it smog checked, regardless of age or lack of age.

    It passed. $53 later.

I was chuckling at the experience @xwesx had registering his wife's new car. In my state, you have to bring an out of state car in for an inspection before they will register it. If AK was the same way, could have gotten pretty dicey shipping from PA to AK and back! :D

That’s an interesting problem. Any time I bought a car private party from in-state or out of state I would just take the title to DMV in person and get it registered. Now, with restrictions on office visits I wonder what I would have to do, make an appointment and wait a month? Not something I’d want to do if my recently purchased car had to be left in another state for a lengthy time.

Makes me wonder to what extent this pandemic has disrupted the private car market.

lots of people just driving around without plates. Just carry your paperwork.

if I bought one now, I still have old plates with some registration time left on them. I would just put them on the car, and carry the old car's registration, and title to the new one. Until I could get an appointment at DMV.

nice car. I normally like that style blue, but IMO does not work on that car. And black leather in a convertible, a big no no.

Oh, she is in Ohio taking care of her mother. She had to fly down there because Canada is not letting US traffic through (except in extremely limited circumstances, and ours didn't qualify)... but she needed to have a vehicle. We looked into shipping her car, but the time and expense didn't really justify it, so I just bought her a cheap car to use while she's there.

I sent my wife the plates yesterday. Beforehand, I asked her if it had screws for the rear plate. She sent the photo below, so I jokingly responded, "Whoa?! I buy you a car, and you immediately take it off-roading?!" Her response makes me wonder if she'll ever get my sense of humor. :disappointed:

I ended up sending the plates with a set of stainless screws to secure the rear in all four corners.
