Good suggestion. So Vroom puts it at $39,728.

Sounds better. Just wanted to get a reasonable feel for the values of the cars to make an informed decision.

usually you seem excited. This one really seems like you are trying to talk yourself into it. I would say just hang onto the Supra for now. But I know that isn't any fun!

So that comes through my posts? You’re not wrong...but I’m having a hard time letting go of the idea of a manual again. Maybe it’s just not time yet.

I want one again. I do miss it. but have not DD'd one in about 7 years, so who knows? But it isn't some must do.

I would be fine with a 2 fer. Something useful as my regular car, and a true toy (like the Miata) with a manual. Though right now, anything I get will barely get used, since I don't daily drive period.

I'm nothing like I was 10-20 years ago when it was "manual or nothing," but of course there was a heck of a lot more options at that time.

The last daily driver I had with a manual was my 2016 S4. I don't have any interest in one as a daily driver, but obviously would still prefer one for the fun car. Having said that, the Supra has definitely opened up my eyes to not necessarily needing one.

And, part of it is my youngest son, who turns 16 next week, has an interest in learning to drive a stick. I gave him one lesson in my 228i before I traded it, and kinda need one if I want to continue teaching him.

Well I wouldn't be giving him the M2 as his first car or anything...just a tool to learn on! :) He actually did quite well his first time out in my 228i. Probably makes a difference that he had a desire to learn - something the other kids lacked.

Truth is, he'd love an old Civic, but his mom (my ex) seems to think he has to have an AWD SUV. I've made my case for FWD and winter tires being superior, but it's a battle I don't care to continue.

true about that. A hellcat type car, the AT might be better experience. But a Miata, Si or a BRZ, definitely needs to be a manual.

Speaking of kids & cars & manuals, my daughter just special-ordered a red-red Crosstrek premium 6MT. True to form, when the salesman filled out the order, he checked CVT for the transmission...Mademoiselle straightened him out.

It's getting tight for those who want to buy a manual. Call me a troglodyte but I don't want any of the 'driver aids' where it's not clear who's in charge of the car. I've been fine without forward collision warning for 40 years, and I don't want it.

I think the Impreza looks much better than the Crosstrek and it's a bargain in the base model to boot. And no electronic busybodies beyond stability control. My last Subaru -- 2014 Outback 6MT -- was no love affair and I ditched it, but what else am I going to buy? I'd love to wait another year and enjoy my 2012 Fusion.. I can't find any definitive information when the Impreza model change will be. Anybody have their ear to the ground?

With luck, my next new car will be fully self-driving. THAT I'm interested in. I'll get the smallest engine, too, cuz it won't be my problem ;)
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 16,790
New Impreza should be 2022 model year, so this summer, but I wouldn't be surprised if they pushed that back a year due to the pandemic this year. Crosstrek would follow with 2023 MY.

I agree. Being a Sport Line it’s perfect for him, and he gets the CWP and H-K. It has a full service history from my dealer and they just put new Pirellis on it. It will need an oil and brake fluid change in the fall and I told him to get the coolant changed while he’s at it; if it’s performed at my dealer it should run about $350 at most.

What's the realistic sale value for my 2008 Cobalt 2LT2? 168000 miles. Fog lights.
Spoiler on trunk. Well kept engine and transmission. Tires at 6/32 Michelins. Black. A couple of rough spots on paint due to chipping on flex bumper that was repainted by me. Brakes need some work on front.

anything that runs and drives these days, and isn't rusted out, must be worth at least $2,000. That used to be the $1,000 run and drive minimum, but prices have gone up! Front brakes are cheap and DIY for many people. I bet if it goes on FB Marketplace with some good pictures, it will get snapped up. Or sell it to the guy that already asked you for it.

Does 2LT2 mean 2-door? I only see LTs listed. They probably don’t bother to differentiate. As a trade, they might show you $500-$750 good will.

that is not a dealer or carmax car. Throw it on FB marketplace at a reasonable price like $2,000 and it will go quick. From what I have heard, the low price market right now is barren and people are desperate for cheap, relatively reliable transportation.

Congratulations, good job. Plus you sold to someone who knew what he was doing, always a plus.

It's a scary market when a 168k Chvey Cobalt -- A Cobalt, forsooth! -- fetches $1800 from the kind of person who can usually 'steal' a car.

If you need wheels and can afford a $20k Elantra or Impreza, think of it as a bargain and get one.
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 16,790

    Cash. $100s.
To a guy who'll use the parts I had bought but hadn't gotten on for the brake repairs. Wanted car for his daughter to drive back and forth to college. He does car repairs and appreciated the quality parts I'd already
bought but didn't get motivated enough to put on last summer: calipers, rotor, pads.

He saw the car in my driveway after I got back from getting wheels balanced. Had wheels rebalanced
and rotated Monday and the tech messed up the balancing. So had to get it redone. Now they are
    smooth like good Michelins.

I didn't have to work with craig's list callers or dangerous visitors. I'm really relieved.

Man, that's perfect! Congrats on the sale. Sounds like it is going to a good home, too.

I sold my 6V Audi R8 Spyder in fair condition at $50, and I sold my 225/50R17 Michelin PilotSport A/S 3+ with Enkei 17"x 7.5" lightweight wheels mounted and balanced together with 70% tread left for $420 (These were for the Alltrack). 5-112 bolt pattern, said he was putting them on a Veloster...... not my issue anyway.

Even with the great low pricing, this was my first real hand at trying the FB marketplace to sell goods. Lots of flakes and low ballers despite my low pricing. Just took a week for the wheels (be patient; right buyer will come along), and for the electric toy Audi, the Facebook San Diego Audi club came through more than FB Marketplace.

Quite a variation on these. I suppose the level of equipment is making most of the difference. Yours is rather sparsely optioned, and I’d imagine gold won’t be very popular (I wasn’t aware that was even a color choice) so I’d have to take a shot at $25k-$26k.

Carvana has been "pending" for days. Vroom came in at $56k. KBB ICO says $65k and CafFax says $66k, but those aren't actual offers ... they say I have to take it to a local dealer for a real quote. I'll be doing that soon, so just wanted to know what I should really expect. Thanks!
