I'm interested in leasing a 2021 VW GTI Autobahn 6-speed and was offered the car for $580 per month for 39 months with 12K miles per year with all taxes (8.375%) and fees rolled into the monthly payments. VW is picking up the first payment, so I would drive off of the lot with the car giving the dealer $0 and pay $580 a month for 38 months. Is this a good deal?

~$600/mo seems like a lot for a GTI; I should think you could buy one for that payment.

I'm in Rockland County, NY. The MSRP is $38599. The sale price of the vehicle is $37400. The adjusted cap cost is $40876. I believe the last figure includes all taxes and fees. I have spoken to several dealers in and around my area. They all say the interest rate is about 2.5%. One problem is that the residual on this car at 39 months/12,000 per year is 52% which is pretty low, but every dealer is saying the same thing. I priced a 2020 a few weeks ago and the out of pocket was again $0, and the payments would've been $521. Another car, also a 2020, the payment was $554 so I can see there's some wiggle room. The problem is that there are very few 2021 manual autobahns out there and every dealer tells me they have multiple inquiries and are not willing to budge very much. This car started at $601 per month and with some prodding he made it $585. I said I really need it to be lower and he rock bottomed out at $579. He said he will not go lower.

The Autobahn is the highest priced trim, and the lease program isn't very good.

Before I took a $579 lease payment, I'd look for a used 2019 or 2020 model, finance it for 60 months, and have the same or lesser payment. Even if the payment was a little more, you'd come out way ahead in the long run, because of how well the GTI holds it's value.

I have a question about these incentives. They quoted me a 13% off MSRP on a Golf GTI S, but said that if i used the promotional VW financing or lease rates, they would have to add 1k back to the price to compensate, and the quote was for a cash deal.

I don't think there is an actual cost to use the VW financing right? I've never heard of this before. Usually, it's an either or option. Like you choose a discount or special rates.

That being said, is 10% about the going discount on a 2021? Or is it actually 13%. Thanks in advance.

The dealer gets a $500 incentive from VW, if you take the 0% 60 mo. financing
If they bump you to 1.9% APR for 60 months, they get $1500.

So, yes, 0% financing will cost you an extra $1000.

I don't track pricing, though
