Can’t you solve that problem by running the hot water at the kitchen sink first. In fact, most dishwasher instructions say to do this as a matter of course anyway. Mrs. j has done that since she had her first dishwasher back in the early 70’s.

Notice how we always get back to dishwashers.

    jmonroe

Yes we do that all the time, which helps but eventually the tankless shuts off because the new “HE” appliances fill very slowly.

My personal favorite thing that happens with the tankless is the “cold water sandwich”. Say your wife takes a shower, and then 10 minutes or so later you decide to take one. You turn the water on and it’s warm right away. So you jump in and once the warm water in the pipe flushes out you get 15 seconds of cold while the unit is firing up. That is fun in the winter.

Why would the tankless shut off because you have a HE dishwasher? As long as you’re calling for hot water it should provide hot water.

Now, about that shower thingy, I’d make sure I was first into the shower.

Is there anything you like about your tankless heater?

    How things can snowball;
*First, the little lever handle that you lift so the plug closes the sink broke. First plan was to replace that.
*Then decided it would be good to get a new sink, maybe with one hole so can have one tap for hot & cold.
*Then realized the sink is beige, and we should get a white sink because we were thinking of getting a new toilet, and the toilet is beige but you have way more choice if it is white.
*Then we went to the plumbing store to select a sink and toilet, oh and a new tap (single)
*Then MrsD100 saw a black granite kitchen sink that she really liked.
*Our current sink is stainless, and it is one that goes under the granite counter.
*Of course, she needs a new kitchen faucet to go with the new sink
*We might need a granite Guy to come and make the hole larger for the sink.

....and it all started from replacing a $10 stopper in the bathroom sink....probably end up costing $5000! :'(

On a car related topic, I think of @abacomike almost daily because I drive past a house with a G90 in the driveway and another Hyundai product a Telluride or Pallisade or whatever the name also in the driveway.

The G90 is black. Its styling is just pleasant to look at. it has nothing about screaming "Look at me."
It's just pleasing to the eye in its balance and design.

But the G90 has the longest rear door I've noticed in a long time. That rear seat must really have room. That means the front can be adjusted to handle someone who needs more legroom.

Imid, you are correct - the rear doors are very long in order to provide easy entry and exit of passengers in the rear seats. When I sat in the back seat, my knees were at least 12 inches from the back of the front seat. It is actually roomier in the rear seats than my S Class Mercedes was.

    SOME UPDATES:

Finally got a neuro-surgeon to see me next Tuesday morning about my back. I've had two procedures with epidurals with absolutely no relief. I've had 12 weeks of therapy with no relief. Can't stand in one place for more than 5 minutes before I get so much pain in my back that I have to sit. Walking more than a few hundred feet and I have to stop and sit down. It would appear that my only hope for getting relief is some sort of surgery.

As for my son - I had a long conversation with my grandson and from what the doctors have said about his malignant tumor at the C level of his spine is that it is inoperable and they cannot give radiation doses because he had so much radiation when he had the brain tumor that his body cannot tolerate any more. The type of cancer he has is usually found in patients who have had high doses of radiation and/or chemotherapy. The tumor is encapsulated and was leaking slightly. The "pills" he is taking (chemo of some sort) is supposed to cause the tumor to encapsulate completely so it does not spread.

Only God knows how long he has - I just pray every night.

lol....the Pfister is still working well and is a beautiful piece of equipment, the new toilet is just an American Standard with a normal base since you aren't looking directly at all those busy lines on the bottom. The Pfister is in a place where the smooth sides look much better.

Mailed in the deposit on a lot. Need to decide the general physical layout by Thanksgiving.
Originally, we were going to go with a straight ranch style, but I needed some 'Me' space not in the basement, so we are adding some 2nd floor space instead.
Also adding 3rd garage and a 14x14 covered porch area with a fireplace.

good luck! that is what we would have done too. The wife wants a screen porch/sun room if possible, I of course want the garage, and adding an upstairs bonus room is very handy.

    @stickguy,
The upstairs is a bedroom, full bath and some general purpose space, maybe sort of a reading area.
Not a full 2nd level, it does not change the house profile.

Tankless water heaters require a certain amount of pressure and time to turn on. The HE appliances put water in small amounts at a time that many times won’t trigger the unit to turn on, or if it does not until it’s ready to shut back off.

Is there anything I like? Well, yes. Five showers back to to back (sometimes three at once) with no issues. Wife can fill her soaking tub to capacity with no loss of temperature. I also like the fact that there isn’t 50 gallons of water sitting in a tank and they do save money on gas (while wasting a bit of water due to long wait times).

    Story time….

    Jmonroe length post warning:

So we are on vacation this week and originally planned to go to Antigua. We cancelled that for a host of reasons. So we are spending some time at the shore house. First with our niece and nephews for Halloween and then alone for a few days until the end of the week when are kids are off for the teacher convention.

Work has been insane for my wife and I. We typically don’t watch much news so we really discounted how bad the coastal storm was. Yesterday I had to be in a retail location because it’s one of the busiest days of the year heading into Halloween (all corp has to be in stores) and I was disconnected from everything.

Wife heads to the shore with 4 kids and a trunk full of groceries. Calls me frantic at 7:30 PM that our street is flooded and she isn’t sure she can make it. I tell her to stop immediately and open her door to see how high it was. She said almost to the door… I was like get the hell out of there! She did and headed to the Wawa on main road to wait. The kids certainly couldn’t walk the couple of blocks and she was too frazzled to drive home.

I was just leaving and on the way. I said call the Police and ask for help. They were completely awesome! Met her at Wawa, escorted her to a place to park and drove her and the 4 kids along with the groceries in a military truck to the house!

I got there a little after nine, parked about 4 blocks away and walked through the water which had begun to recede. What a night! Next time we will pay more attention to the weather! No excuse with today’s technology. Not a smart move on our part at all

I'm glad nothing worse happened. Back in the '90s the southern area of my county experienced severe flooding. Court was cancelled so a friend of mine and I drove down to the emergency HQ. Not much was going on but we heard the National Guard pilots were bored and taking people for rides in their UH-60s. When we got there Black Hawks were gone, but a soldier driving a HEMTT offered us a tour of the area. It was pretty cool; the driver navigated by looking at the power poles and road signs, as the roads were covered with about 3-4 feet of water. It even leaked in the bottom of the truck's doors, which was pretty impressive considering the size of the truck:

Why would the tankless shut off because you have a HE dishwasher? As long as you’re calling for hot water it should provide hot water.

Now, about that shower thingy, I’d make sure I was first into the shower.

Is there anything you like about your tankless heater?

Tankless water heaters require a certain amount of pressure and time to turn on. The HE appliances put water in small amounts at a time that many times won’t trigger the unit to turn on, or if it does not until it’s ready to shut back off.

Is there anything I like? Well, yes. Five showers back to to back (sometimes three at once) with no issues. Wife can fill her soaking tub to capacity with no loss of temperature. I also like the fact that there isn’t 50 gallons of water sitting in a tank and they do save money on gas (while wasting a bit of water due to long wait times).

Getting 5 showers back to back is very good, so I’d keep that thing. But the 2 plumbers I know that stopped installing them about 4 years ago said their customers could not get that volume of hot water from the units they installed. It could be the early ones couldn’t do that so good for you. However, I don’t plan to install a tankless unit when mine bites the dust which can’t be too long from now since it’s 7 years old.

some applications will do better with 2 units. Or a POS insta hot booster.

or just don't be impatient and wait the 15 seconds for water to get there from the tank.

I've thought about a small one just for the master bath, which is about 45-50 feet from our gas HW heater.

But, after finishing the basement ceiling, I put it out of my mind.

my BIL has a large house. they have split systems. I forget all the details, but I think it is a tankless feeding the guest room area, and a tank for the master? something like that. The tankless is on the opposite side of the house from the hot water tank so the hot water doesn't have to travel as far.

If you need 5 showers back to back (or front to front, whatever) or 3 showers at once then tankless seems the way to go....especially if you have more than one unit. But for the average household, it probably isn't worth the extra cost which could be 2, 3 or 4 or more times as much as a tanker.

Has NYC boy (the plumbing wholesaler) checked in regarding "instant" heat water heaters? Someone asked some time ago, and I'm particularly interested in what he has to say.

4 houses ago.....about 20 years ago MrsD100 had a small auxiliary gas heater below the kitchen sink. One day it stopped working....replacing that little thing cost just as much as replacing a large 40 or 50 gallon tank. :'(

I just discovered that Roku has a new channel called This Old House Classic (they already had a TOH channel which showed the 3 newest seasons). The Classic channel is showing old stuff with Bob Vila hosting. They just finished up season 2 with the massive Bigelow House condo conversion and now they’re showing the first series from 1979 with the Dorchester house on Percival St in Boston.

I’ve watched some of that too. Good stuff. If you can believe it Tom Silva is Tik Tok with his daughter. Does some goofy stuff, but also tutorials and such.
