You said you had a noisy KA dishwasher. That’s not good. There are two dishwashers in our house. The Samsung is quiet but the other one gets noisy at times.
jmonroe
You gotta make sure they're BOTH serviced properly
Sure is!! I can probably fit three in a pinch. Entire left side is ours. Pic from listing. All that stuff on the walls is gone and cleaned up.
That pic shows about half the depth.

Totally unacceptable and I would have returned it too. I’m going to have to test mine with the DB meter on my phone.

It’s going to be expensive since they’re both waaay out of warranty.

Our Bosch is very quiet. Has an LED that shines on the floor, when running, so you don't open it up. Needs it, too.

You should hear our Samsung W/D… it sounds like a video game for about 30 seconds after the cycle.

That’s a lot better than hearing a loud buzzer go off and doesn’t stop until you shut it up like Mrs. j’s dryer. She never uses that feature because of the racket it makes.
I wonder how much money I wasted on that feature when we bought that beast.
jmonroe
That looks like the exact one I have. Ridiculous noise.

My dishwasher, Whirlpool, doesn't have any noises at the end. It's quiet enough it easy to converse in the galley kitchen with it operating. I don't have a decibel meter. The Bosch the son and DIL have makes more noise. BUT it's in an open concept house and the position in the kitchen is shaped in a way sound reflects into part of the great room.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
For those that have owned loud rip roaring V8's with serious exhaust notes, did it ever get old?
Did some more research today at local appliance guy (he sells, and is also an authorized service center). Turned me off whirlpool. Probably going to grab the killer deal on the new Frigidaire and be done with it, and cancel our WP order from BJs.
Unless we get up sold…. But I doubt it.
Really prefer dealing with local specialist. Even costs less than the big box store.

@andres3 - what is the installed price for the new S4 motor?
It’s going to be expensive since they’re both waaay out of warranty.

Dishwashers don’t lean on you that much do they?

OUCH. Is it really worth doing that at a non-Audi dealer? If there is the least bit of a hiccup you’re doomed.

Ouch. It would still be worth a tow to Audi for a hope for 50% good will.
Don't ask the owners ask their neighbors.

Maybe.... let's say they go 50% on material only, but not on labor. The labor will easily double, if not triple IMHO. Then, there's markup on the parts, and I have a strong inclination they markup the parts FAR more than my "honest" shop. So take off 50% only to add back in 20% and another $5-6K in labor? No thanks. Someone recently posted on a FB S4 forum that a dealership gave a $28K quote for engine troubles. Sounds about right.

If this wasn't one of the best, if not very best regarded shops in all of Southern CA, I'd be hesitant, but I have more confidence in my shop than the hacks in the dealership. ESPECIALLY if the management at the dealership is "cracking the whip" to speed up production over quality.
It's certainly a big bill and near the cusp of the fence of making financial sense. If it wasn't for the hot used market that might not be so. Also, I like the car, and that helps. If I hated the car, the equation might favor letting someone else take on the project.
The car was tip top for 11 months. If this is just a one-time aberration, it's not the end of the world. If things start failing like dominoes, it'll be a quick sale.
But if they give you 50% parts and labor, then you are at $14k and I suspect a more favorable warranty
Even at 50% parts only maybe $21k with a better warranty

Assuming they included new parts that don't necessarily need to be new, but are "nice to haves" while they are "in there." But that's maybe $1k tops I think. In the end I felt I have the right shop and techs slated to take on this big project.
This is where a very good shop can become a GREAT shop.

The biggest chance of doom I have, by far, is from a Karen colliding with my "just fixed up" S4 and totaling it. Geico already said they wouldn't consider an OEM engine at "stated value" nor a "customization" value.
This worries me more than anything else right now.
Oh well, your money, your choice.
What does a “Karen” have to do with anything?
You are also hypothetically assuming Audi would do goodwill on a used 6-year old (going on 7) car bought used from a non-Audi dealership.
I sincerely hope this works out well for you. Give us a report after you put 1000 miles on the new engine.
Good luck.

I do not associate a Karen as “any negligent bad driver”. I associate a Karen as someone falsely blaming someone else for an issue that they caused but those I have seen are not related to car accidents
Yes, it is a leap of faith to try for a good will gesture from Audi but yours was low mileage and no ECU flash so to me it would be worth a shot. The worst that they could say is no.
and whenever my son mentions buying out his S4 lease I will show him a copy of this thread.

Yo @oldfarmer50 , how'd your son's head gasket repair go?

When I had my clutch problem with our Audi, Audi corporate would do nothing for me. The dealer offered 20 or 25% off on parts. It is hard to discount labor, as the mechanic will want to be paid the full amount or close to it. The dealer can discount parts, especially on an expensive repair, but labor is hard to discount.
I don't know the car at all but I tried to get a trade-in value and it came out to $25 to 26K. Does that sound right? Is it worth it to spend $20k for a car worth $25k. OTOH, what do you do with it if the engine is gone?
Maybe get an engine from the wreckers, pop it in, and then try to sell it to some poor soul!

What a predicament, a new engine, a rebuilt engine, wait for an accident like a transplant, drop in a Jetta engine and hope no one notices........what a dilemma!

JRgo replaced the engine in an R8 twin turbo in his garage without a lift. And did an A6 3.0t in his new shop. It can be done.

That's the thing.... that shot wasn't free. Highly likely they'd want to take out and diagnose the engine on my dime; then decide upon a course of action based on what's found. Too big of a leap with too many contingencies for me, especially at an outrageous labor rate.
I have to feel sorry for people named Karen. How did that name ever come to mean what it does?
