I don't like roundabouts either. They all have different designs and marking signs as to

What’s the difference between traffic circles and roundabouts. That may be my problem.

A fairly clean and serviceable 2.0 turbo engine compartment on the Passat. It runs perfectly on the recommended 87 octane.

The Tiguan has the 2.0T tuned for 87, but it's a bit of a dog and slow. How's the Q5 with Premium in comparison to the Passat?
I think the Tiguan is heavier than the Passat. The Passat can feel brisk if aggressive with the throttle but certainly not fast. It likes to upshift early which also blunts performance. Sport mode or manually shifting the trans helps a lot. The Q5 feels much quicker than the Passat. It requires premium fuel and that's what it gets.

There is a technical difference, but from what I have seen, most people use the terms they prefer. Same basic concept of course, difference is diameter and way access is controlled.

Haven’t seen the blinking yellow arrow around here yet. Makes sense. People tend to get confused by the arrow just going blank, as to whether that means they can turn, or only on the arrow.

Neither have I. Not many roads you can make left turns anyway!

    Where we live:

    Light is red.
Light changes: left turn lane gets green arrow, straight ahead lane gets green.
End of left turn cycle: left turn signal goes solid yellow, then red. Opposite traffic moves through light.
Approx two seconds later: left turn signal starts flashing yellow, until end, then solid yellow, then red.

    Repeat

That is exactly how the ones in Florida work now. I like it because it is nice and neat......it lays out what you can and can't do.
The biggest problem I see is drivers asleep when the green flashing arrow starts up, and then he finally moves and the other cars are slow to get going, and only 3 cars get through on the advanced green light when 5 or 6 could get through.

We used to have 2 “rotaries “ here which were basically a roundabout on steroids, being much larger in diameter and which allowed for drivers to maintain higher speed within the circle. The main problem was that unlike roundabout rules where traffic in the circle has the right of way, drivers treated every entry point as a place to do the dreaded “one on one” if there was congestion and so just created more congestion by stopping within the circle to let some else in.

Well a traffic circle is where traffic goes around in a circle and a roundabout is something that denote the approximate location of something "the place you're looking for is roundabout over there".

Seriously though there is supposed to be a difference but everything I read comparing the two pretty much is vague about the difference. Just for kicks I did a google image search on both and most of the pictures were of the same intersection.

OK I'm home today and just went to get the car washed (I was hopeful that during the day it would not be busy and I was right), got lunch and when I got home I picked up the mail coming in. I had a piece of mail addressed to someone who never lived here (we are the original owners) but it's junk mail so I am not concerned, Our monthly letter from Comcast Business which get filed away too, Suris trying to get me to resubscribe this time for the Sebring, something from a Vegas casino (no money just advertising) and something from my credit union - it's my bikes title :p I got it paid off a year early B)

I didn't. I figure the best thing to do is not to answer at all. A friend had his computer hacked and the hacker asked for $1000 for an emergency. A few people paid and thought it was him.
btw.....the reunion was in 2006, I heard from him for about a year after, but haven't hear back in over 14 years. Here is the email address with John Doe substituted for real names. Also suspicious.....the reply is to be sent to another address. My uneducated guess is a hacker got his email addresses, but wants the reply to go to an account he set up. But, what do I know? (Don't bother answering)

They're the same, in addition to which Boston calls them rotaries, just for fun (as if Boston traffic couldn't get more interesting).

When I arrived in Edmonton in '71 I found traffic circles (that's what they call them up there) all over the place, and got used to them pretty quickly. They really are an excellent way to move traffic, but the assumption is that those using them have opposing thumbs and an IQ above room temperature.

The ones in the UK are truly an acquired taste. Besides going "backwards," they have up to four lanes and traffic lights in the circle. That said, I survived and I'm guessing most on here would as well.

This site attempts to explain the differences, but it isn’t totally accurate:

    http://calmstreetsboston.blogspot.com/2012/04/rotaries-vs-roundabouts.html

The roundabouts we have here often have 2 lanes in the circle, which can lead to all sorts of havoc. Or lanes which suddenly end and force you to exit.

more unexpected home problems today. Went out to the garage at lunch and my side door was open. Figured I must have forgotten to hit the button when I came back this morning. So I hit the closer button, and it got to within about 8-10" of down, stopped, and reversed and the lights started flashing.

after some mucking about and reading the owners manual and translating the trouble light on the unit, seemed to point to a sensor issue (the on at the bottom of the track) related to wires. So I yanked on the lights to make sure lined up, and push on the wires (that really did look pretty ratty at this point). And it worked again. A few times. Closed when we left for dinner but when we got home , was acting up again. So in the morning will mess around with them again.

But, I think it is a futile exercise. Could try to buy and install new ones but at this point might be a waste. Probably going to call the door guy and just get the opener replaced (if they are coming out anyway).

Current unit (a Craftsman) is going on 16 years old at this point. Not sure what the lifespan on one of these is, but that is longer than the original one lasted. The other open was replaced with a Liftmaster in 2018, so I think they going to be matching again soon.

Kinda like matching washers and dryers. Garages don’t like mismatched openers and will only put up with them for so long (so I’ve read recently only around 16 years). The next owners will appreciate what you’re doing for them.

at the pace our cleaning up and prepping to list are going, I am the next owner.

I actually just googled and multiple sites said 10-15 years is the normal lifespan if you maintain it. So far, my maintenance has consisted of changing 1 lightbulb when it burned out. Don't think I have touched it otherwise. So figuring I got my money's worth out of it.

I read some stuff from google. Might be the wire on the receiver side (I now know there is a red light on one and green on the other) but the red one is yellow which seems to indicate it is the problem. So I might pull that sensor off the rails and see if the wires are loose. If it isn't working tomorrow still, nothing really to lose! Would be nice to get it back up and running but I hate hassling repeatedly with stuff like that that is already considered past it's lifespan.

so if that doesn't fix it I am punting! But will make the attempt first.

more unexpected home problems today.

Oh oh, I’ve got a 14 year old Craftsman. Am I looking at problems in a few years?

Seriously, I’ve had the same issue with my door when a leaf or cobwebs block the sensor. Just cleaning it out solved the problem.

hope that works. Though it seems odd that it will close almost the whole way before reversing. Seems like if it was blocked it would not close at all.

I went to a high school reunion in 2006, and I saw a guy who I hadn't seen for over 35 years. He came from out of town and he stayed at our home for 2 nights. We exchanged emails for about a year after, and nothing since.

Then I got this email this morning, supposedly with his name on it....is this a scam?

    From: JOHN DOE

Hi, how are you doing today?

Sorry to bother you so early but i need your assistance.

Please get back to me as soon as you can

    JOHN

Sounds like a scam but what could they gain from getting an email response?
Don't forget, he's asking for my assistance. I am sure he is going to need a few $1000 to bail him out of jail or to get back into the country....I am sure they have a scam all figured out.

If you want to see how ruthless these guys can be watch The Puppet Master on Netflix, just 3 episodes and really an eye opener if you want to see how fraudsters work.

Going through that intersection a few times a week will probably be good for maintaining good brain functioning, and may help you to avoid having to use Prevegen soon.

    Errrrr, Imidazol98
asked me to tell you it's Prevagen. He's right: I checked my bottle here at home!

    I was curious about Prevagen....I am usually pretty good at knowing what the score is at tennis and once I forgot.....one guy asked if I had heard about Prevagen. I checked it out;

But could swallowing calcium-binding protein based on jellyfish somehow benefit your human brain? Research suggests it doesn't, experts say. The apoaequorin in Prevagen likely gets digested by your stomach before any of it stands a chance of reaching your brain.

Also, there has been no tests that prove it helps with memory.

    Other facts:
The group concluded that a healthy diet was the best way to get brain-boosting nutrients.

The Alzheimer's Association cautions that claims about memory-enhancing dietary supplements are mostly based on very little science.

Nice review of facts vs propaganda via the advertising. Thankx.
I'd wondered if Prevagen's claims had any validity.

I'll save my money. Just met with my doctor today and in US
with Medicare they do a memory test every year to assess
    the state of one's abilities.

May want to sell sooner than later. My SIL is thinking of buying a house so I was showing her the various tools to calculate mortgages, etc. I haven’t been following it but the mortgage rates went up over point from a year ago. Maybe I’m wrong but if they continue to rise that has to have some impact on this wild market.

When we bought the shore house the mortgage guy said we locked in right ahead of an increase and they were told to expect more. I guess it wasn’t just BS.
