Yes, they supposedly keep the deposit from bidder 1 (I guess that’s more profit for them) and ban the user.

How much is the deposit? Not that it matters very much to you if you don't get it, but losing a substantial deposit should discourage most people from bidding without intending to actually buy.

You pay the full buyer's fee up front. So, in this case, they will have pocketed $382.50 from buyer 1 and nearly that again from buyer 2. Would seem they benefit from flaking bidders, so not much desire to deter them, I'd imagine.

I can see where the company would benefit. On the other hand, I would be reluctant to bid and not mean it if I were going to be out that much money. That's not exactly pocket change, at least not for most of us.

That totally sucks! Why bid in the first place if you really aren't going to follow through. it's like ripping your money into useless pieces! Hopefully the next bidder in line will take it as it really is a very nice vehicle. But I guess when dealing with this kind of business model, some flakes are going to fall through the cracks. Just another hassle to go through in a process that really sems to take too long and is too complicated. Hopefully going forward, all your ducks will fall into place and you'll be selling as many vehicles as you can get your hands on...all for a decent profit to!

@stickguy - do you use Waze via CarPlay in your Mav? The speed readout on mine fluctuates wildly (and I have the current version of Sync software on the Mav, as well as the current Waze app and iOS version). I think the phone receives GPS data from the vehicle it's plugged into when in CarPlay mode, but that data seems inferior to the phone's own sensors.

Also, got the bed liner today. Instructions recommend installing the hook and loop fasteners on the bed and tailgate when they are 65 degrees or above. Best I can do is tomorrow afternoon.

It's been nice to have a three day weekend and for once, didn't miss work! Think I'm a bit tired of it all and possibly need to cut back a bit. Having more bad days than good, which makes me just want to stay home. Discussed all this with my pain doctor last week and he advised me to maybe cut back at the beginning of the year and see how it goes. I can always make coming back on board for three days part of the proposal like in 6 months or so. I just don't want to get that burned out again like I did in 2019 at Hertz, where I was weeks away from quitting. And if the Enterprise gig had not come through, am quite sure I would've left for awhile. But the prospect of a new job so close to home was something I just couldn't say no to.
Think I do need some more time off so I guess I'll be talking with my boss soon.

65? you must live in the tropics. up here, I wouldn't be getting that in until April at best! though it did hit 44 with only 12mph winds today, so I pulled out the hose and buckets and finally got the salt washed off the RDX!

on the mav, I use car play but not waze. I never got into that and still use google maps because I am used to it. never had an issue with it either. Though reading this, it seems that Waze gives you a speedometer reading too? Not sure what that does since there is a big readout on the dash already!

Missing a lot of mine, if you want to count them all. I’ve had the Gloria for like 4 months. Got 2 4xes this year, I think. Other than the Gloria, have the Suzuki R Wagon and Mitsu Pajero in the driveway. Paid for the Opel coming in 2 weeks and paid for the 2 Pajero Minis, although not arriving till first week of Jan. We also got my wife’s S90 this year. I think that covers it.

Yeah, there is a speed overlay, like the image below. Is very accurate when the phone isn't connected to the Mav, but if I'm driving at a steady 65 MPH per the instrument cluster readout, it will say 65, 61, 72, 67, etc... Never had an issue in other vehicles.

  • tjc78tjc78 Member Posts: 15,900

That’s a weird one with the speed. Never seen a variance like that. In our XC90 road side speed signs confirm that it reads 2 MPH slow and Waze matches that.

Glad to be on the list! But (what the heck is wrong with me!), I still just haven't been able to reconcile buying the third car. I actually enjoy snow (as I've oft-mentioned, skier); I've never had a problem with it, be it shoveling, driving or snowmanning! Winter sans-snow is just gray and ugly.
The day after we moved in here, 26" of snow fell. Which was forecasted, hence we moved the moving date up a day. Couldn't see out the windows as the wind had plastered snow on them! We have a nice ocean view, or so I was told...
And, of course, winter snow is expected, and a much better alternative to some of the other weather that Ma Nature can throw around!

@corvette - I've been using WAZE for a number of years now. Just about 2 months ago, I plugged my phone in and Google maps came up. The interface is MUCH less glitchy than WAZE and it seems to run faster. You can't tell people about the "smokey" hiding on the road or the vehicle stopped on shoulder, but it does seem to be smoother. Rerouting is pretty much instant.

It does. I use Waze when I'm in CA, driving from San Diego to my old hometown (about 200 miles, through the heart of LA). When I went there in August, Waze had me take the 405 north on the west side of town, but on the southbound trip, it navigated me further east before heading south on I-15.

Just had the garage door place here. Costing me $7700 to change all 3 doors to raise to the ceiling. Ouch! Only cost me $4k a little more than 2 years ago to replace all 3 doors, motors, and tracks. Now nearly double and not even getting new doors with it. Hindsight. Shoulda done this originally.

We got a rather pleasant 3-4 inches of snow overnight here in the Denver area. Enough to make it feel like the holidays, but not enough to mess things up.

We got Blizzaks put on the Mach E last night. My E450 (with its Blizzaks) is in the shop still so I'm just driving around my Polestar, which is perfectly fine with the all seasons. Winter tires tend to be overkill for our conditions, but we do like having them.

Also had our electrician come by last night to provide a bid for a second charger in the garage, so hopefully that will get done within the next couple weeks. I still have our older 32 amp Chargepoint which should be just fine, so at least we don't have to buy the charger itself. Not that the wiring is cheap.

Wow. I just had breakfast with a friend yesterday who is wanting to do the same thing in his garage. He said something to the effect that the angle of the door when open caused increased stress and perhaps needed a stronger motor for the opener? Is that part of the issue/cost?

I thought the same, but he pointed out you can't use the same type of overhead motor. Makes sense when you look at it and think about it. The overhead pulls a chain that is attached to the door with a hinged arm. If the motor was on the ceiling, that hinged arm would need to be about 6 or 7 feet long, and the angle it would create would be pretty darned impossible for the motor to pull it. Not to mention, the arm would cut into that very space you are trying to create. The high-rise setup utilizes a side-mount motor, so no center track at all.

A few years ago on another board we were discussing the private sale of a new Ducati that had just 22 miles on it. The guy selling it lived approximately 22 miles from the Duc dealer so the consensus was that the guy bought it, rode it home, wife saw it, and it was game over.

In contrast, a hand-wringing bed wetter asked my wife why she wasn't concerned/worried when I bought my Triumph S3 and she told that person that if her husband was going to have a mid-life crisis affair she would prefer it be with something with two wheels as opposed to two legs.
    ————————————————
True, and if need be she could flatten the tires on the bike with relative ease. Whereas the two legged one might fight back. :'(

If the motor is on the side vs. on the top via a rail connected to the center of the door, thereby balancing the door when its being lifted, does that require stiffening the door panels so they don’t rack when being lifted from only one side?

I think you need a wall Mount (torsion?) spring. I have that at my new house. I saw a video on installing an opener with one of those. It just clamps onto the end of the bar that the spring is on.

Our 6yr old water heater has failed. I had it installed and some additional plumbing work done at the time with a total cost of $1500 which I thought was a bit high. Six years later the same water heater, no extra work, and getting quotes of $1800-$2100 for an entry level 50gal gas water heater. Ugh!

Does buying my leased car count as a punch? B)

Famous last words amongst this group but unless the market changes significantly between now and next August when the Acura lease matures I won't be contributing to the list at all.

Everyone has different relationship dynamics around everything. If it works for them, great.

My experience says that regular conflict around spending of any kind, big or small, usually has its origins somewhere else in the relationship.

Who am I to judge, though?

@sda - sheesh, I can't imagine a water heater only lasting six years, especially when they are so expensive. I'm sure mine is on borrowed time, but I'd rather not think about it.
