  We are, actually, a two-hatch family, but the "second" hatch is a pounded-out '85 Citation which serves as "training wheels" for our teenage children. As for the adults, the "other car" is a 1996 Olds Cutlass Supreme. Olds just kept throwing money at us...$50 on our GM card rebate total just for a test drive, 2-year warranty extension and $500 rebate for buying one, a 3 month subscription to Sports Illustrated (not the swim-suit issue :-( ), plus $4000 accumulated cash rebate (charging college tuition and fees really brings up the total fast!)...well, you get the point. Anyway, the Olds has been a delight to own...it starts, it goes, it stops, nothing breaks (so far), it is smooth and quiet, and when we finally burn off the wimpy OE tires and put something else on, it will handle too. Not in the same league as the Saab, but at one-third the price...

  I am 16 and have two cars an '82 Ford Escort H/B (Witch I only drive to work because it is better on gas.). My other car is an '85 Camaro I don't know if these are considerd hatchbacks or not.

  I define a hatchback as any car where the rear window lifts up along with the "trunk lid". I think your '85 fits that description.....but others seem reluctant to call it anything other than a coupe. Accura even calls their Integra 2-door hatch a "3-door coupe". Go figure !?!?
  
  I haven't looked at one lately, but isn't there a fair amount of room back there? Other than a Jaguar E-Type, you may have the ultimate fast-hatch.

  Bruce I agree with you that a camaro is a hatchback. I also think it is the best hatchback ever made. I agree also that it is one of the fastest ever made. I love my '85.

  We are a 3 vehicle family. Hubby's car is actually a Chevy 4WD pickup. He usually drives my 2nd car to work though, my `88 Honda Accord *hatchback* :-). He's pretty much decided what he really wants is a Nissan 240SX hatchback like my main wheels! I think I'll always own a hatchback - Long Live The HATCH!

  There are two hatchbacks in my household; I have a 1993 Nissan NX2000, and I also have a 1986 Honda Civic Si. Although not hatchbacks, our other vehicles include a 1996 Honda Civic EX, 1991 and 1997 Honda Accords, a dying 1984 Toyota Tercel 4WD wagon, and a 1987 GMC S-15 pickup.

  My wife has a 1984 Dodge Colt, while I drive a 92 Olds 88. I love the big cars, and the only reason I look around here is because my wife's Colt will die some day and I need to whether to replace it with a Civic or a Golf. I don't want to start anything up in this topic, but I'm really leaning toward the Golf...

  All three cars I've owned have been hatchbacks. 1st was a 1987 Dodge Lancer (4 doors and weak), second was a 1990 Volkswagen Corrado G60 (Great handling, good power). Now I own a 1991 Nissan 300ZX Turbo (Awesome power, great looks)

  Acura calls the 2-door car a coupe because it still is a coupe even though it has a hatchback. The 4-door is still a sedan even though it has a notchback. And there are 2-door sedans out there too such as the Chevy Beretta and Buick Regal 2-door(1988 style). These cars are classified as coupe or sedan based on EPA ratings of interior room.

  That's a new one, re. the Berreta and Regal being classed as sedans........I still have mixed feelings about classifying cars as Hatchbacks, given the strong class lines between Sedans and coupes. At some point, you could start calling SUVs "Hatchbacks". It's going to be interesting if VW brings out the SUV version of the Golf Syncro that I've seen previews for.

  OK, so we are a hatchback family--Wife's car is a Saab 900 3 door hatchback, mine is a Saab 9000 4 door hatchback and daughter's is a Nissan Sentra two door hatchback. Oh, yes, there's the Dodge pick em up truck when all else fails (it's 20 years old and still picks em up)

  I don't know if it's available as a hatch or not, but you should look at the Civic HX with the CVT (continuously variable transmission). Civics are as bulletproof as they come in terms of reliability, and the CVT can help the car get about 45 mpg.
  
  The Civic was the only 4-banger I seriously considered when I was shopping last year. (I bought a V6 Mercury Mystique, FYI.) I didn't check out any VWs, mostly because the Golf seemed overpriced and underpowered to me. Your mileage may vary, though.

  I am new to SAAB-land. My husband was always trying to get me to buy one, but I resisted saying that they were too expensive. I test drove a '96 900 SE Turbo Hatch back as a "favor" to him, and I LOVED IT! I loved they way it felt and the way it made me feel! Now neither one of us is thinking clearly about this. I need to know what you guys think about this model as well as the '98 SE. I drive about 25,000 miles a year, so I need a car that can take a little abuse. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
