  • My 91 fj80 has 90,000 on the clock and the vehicle has chewed through three sets of hub seals on the front. The dealer replaced the original set as grease was leaking all over the front assembly, then the replacements leaked, and another set were in…
  • I am thinking of getting a Mityvac to change my own oil - I think the filter is pretty accessible isnt it? Is it feasible to snake the Mityvac through the dipstick hole in the LC? Its a breeze for my BMW so I hope it works for both cars.
  • 1991 Fj80 with 124,000 miles on the clock. The thermostat was replaced and the bill (I told the indy to also do an oilchange which addedl) came to $ 424......seems high to me , they charged $95 for a "diagnostic test" and then $200 labor for th…
  • I live in CT and I am replacing my Duelers with the Nokian WR - "Only four-season family of tires that carries the Severe Service Emblem exceeding new government snow condition regulations". There is NO other choice and I have the equivalent on all…
  • Well its finally happened at 123,000 - my exhaust is blowing. Whats amazing isthat only three months ago it passed the Emissions Test. So maybe the converter and sensors are OK? But now comes the pain of replacing both the mufflers etc etc. The ma…
  • My rear passenger door has done that since new - 1991! Same deal when locking - I have to check to make SURE its locked....as it takes a few goes to do so usually. Obviously a quirk. And wating for the oil light before a change - whoowh!
  • That link worked...but this link still doesnt work!: http://www.edmunds.com/used/index.html I would be interested in fedback on what the problem might be....... In terms of valuation the State of Connecticut uses values from the NADA - values whi…
  • I have tried to use the EDMUNDS website to value my 1991 Landcruiser ....but at the START of the process the used car "questionaire" asks for a 5 digit zipcode - but when ANY 5 digit zipcode is imput there is an ERROR MESSAGE "please enter valid zip…
  • Why was it closed - it was working just fine thank you very much.
  • This happens infrequently - just press the over-ride button and twist the steering wheel. That works for me.
  • I have an Fj80......but the same question would be an issue whatever the model for those in the North East/Canada. Is there a block heater attachment option?
  • The car was fully serviced and checked out not that long ago. The fact is that I dont use it much any more. Owing to expensive gas I avoid the single trips that I would have made in the past. I just use one tank a month or two and its sitting out in…
  • I have noticed the heavier fuel consumption for a while now - low MPG - it just that I was surprised how bad it was when I actually measured it. < 10 MPG is not good....
  • I just filled up - 20.3 gallons - and I had only done 184 miles since last topping up. I used to get 240 miles a tank (270 on highway ski trips). So whats going wrong? Is the summer heat and evaporation part of the problem? Any advice on tuning?
  • I would be interested in the price - I have a 1991 Fj80 with 122,000 on the clock which is being valued by my town (for tax purposes) at around $7,000....
  • I would never abandon my Landcruiser! I will keep my FJ80 until the wheels fall off but I am thinking of buying an FJ as a replacement for one of my three other cars.
  • Anyone bought one or seen yet?
  • My handbook says 87 Octane.....so go with the handbook. Hell - my BMW's handbook says premium is required but I use 89 and its no problem.....no pinking or power drop-off.
  • I just had a similar problem, brake pedal squishy to the floor and much reduced braking force. It turned out to be a failure in a rear brake line which had to be replaced - $180. I had the brake system flushed plus new brake fluid - $110..plus I go…
  • Assuming you drive 12,000 a year the extra cost of an LC over a 22mpg car will be ~$63 a month (assume $3 a gallon gas and 15 mpg). Thats pretty trivial for a $50,000 car - particulalry when you consider the low maintenance costs will save you a bun…
  • So what was the problem?
  • Also the Sequioa is considerably cheaper than the LC - it has no import tax as its made in the US.
  • I am no expert but my guess (from experience) is that you have air in the brake's hydraulic system - which is why you have so much play in your brake pedal (you are squeezing out the air when you apply pressure). Your brake cylinders will probably h…
  • "Land Cruiser meets urban b-segment car in this long-wheelbase, short-overhang (relatively speaking) tall all-wheel-drive crossover box from the world's most feared automaker." http://www.motortrend.com/autoshows/coverage/geneva/112_06geneva_01l_t…
  • So does this mean a Tahoe and not an FJ? BTW a good friend with a new Tahoe went through two replacement transmissions before the thing was OK.
  • Well I got the hood open by having two people available......one to pull the handle in the cabin and one to bounce up and down on the hood in the vicinity of where the latch is....... That worked........but now the question is how to prevent this fr…
  • Well the 100 is very similar to the Fj80 which was introduced in 1990 in the US as the new bodyshape 1991 model Landcruiser. My Fj80 is still going strong (with one or two minor glitches as documented above) after 15 1/2 years if thats any guide.
  • My Fj80.....the hood will not open which is a problem as I need to put in some oil. When I pull the lever in the cabin nothing happens. Any idea how to solve this problem without taking a crowbar to the hood? The wire which threads through to the ca…
  • Actually my Fj80 is an 8 seater....but these days I don't need all 8 and I have removed the 3rd row. So the FJ will work fine for me thanks! And the $35,000 I will save will grow to $111,000 over the period of time I have kept my current LC. .
  • If you can get an FJ and save $35K its a no brainer. :P
  • Well I for one would be interested in buying a FJ (athough I would need to test drive a "live" one) and I am not exactly in the so-called "target market". Of course I won't be parting with my Fj80 anytime soon either :P
  • A commission on $25K > 0
  • So who is right - you or steelcruiser? And do you seriously think a CAR SALESMAN will NOT show a Landcruiser buyer a FJ Cruiser PS. There is a nice bridge on the Hackensack River.....
  • "Current US 100 series is UZJ100, not FJ100". It would appear (nedzel please note) that the FJ nomiker is being retained for the FJ
  • In chess one can advance a pawn and obtain a queen. In this analogy Toyota is replacing the lost pawn/new Queen with another pawn. Its quite simple and it IS a replacement.
  • Toyota may continue to sell the $ 55,000 LC (although many like the poster above seem to doubt it) but the fact remains that very few of these vehicle ever see the sort of off-road activity which gave the LC its place in history. Toyota chose the FJ…
  • I repeat that you misinterpreted my comment as did the "moderators" who eliminated my previous replies (nice going guys!). May I suggest that your focus merely on price is incorrect - just look at the Hummer to see that. The FJ is merely returning…
  • I posted this a few months ago... http://motortrend.com/autoshows/coverage/112_det03gal_toyfj/
  • http://www.cruiserland.com/got_cruiser/shirts/gotfjtshirt.htm
  • The new LC model was in fact introduced 15 years ago. The Fj80 was introduced in 1990 as a 1991 model and the 100 series is not that much different.
