Possible bad CV-joint?

This problem only happens first of the day and subsides after about 30 min of driving. When I turn either direction the front end makes a horrible grinding noise and I feel resistance in the steering wheel. If I let go mid turn the steering wheel will fling back to the straight position at a very fast speed. The Jeep isnt leaking any fluid and I checked and topped off the power steering fluid. Any ideas?

    *UPDATE*
I went out to inspect the steering components. The boots on the cv axles looks good with no tears. I did notice the passenger inboard tie rod, the part attached to the rack and pinion, had some kind of fluid residue on it but the boot looked good as well and its not leaking enough to leave a puddle on the pavement. So....maybe rack and pinion or tie rod?
