WWest, okay, was able to open and read your linked forum piece regarding the ABS not working on your 2000 Chrysler. Unfortunately, there really isn't any additional information I can contribute above and beyond what others in the forum already provided. Not sure the NHTSA ODI report that was referenced applies. It almost sounds like the problem is with the ABS itself, so possibly electronic in nature? Best wishes and good luck. Hope someone can nail it down for you.
No, the ABS works perfectly fine, it's the lack of the ability to use the brakes hard enough to bring the front wheels to the point of skidding, or almost so, that everyone has a problem with. On a truly slippery surface the front brakes QUICKLY bring the wheels close to an impending lockup wherein ABS activates.
There is NO other modern vehicle that I know of, going back to 2000, where the brakes, with HARD/SEVERE braking, cannot be used to bring the front wheels to the point of impending lockup, even on a highly tractive road surface.
I'm 6'2" and 235 lbs and using all my muster the front wheels of teh T&C cannot be brought to the point of lockup or even impending lockup wherein ABS activates. When I do that the car seems to "float", feels almost as if only the rear brakes are being used.
At this point every known braking component has been replaced, some more than once. Even the Chrysler dealer brake specialists tell me that something is not right with this series T&C's brakes.
So it has now been replaced with a 2011 Acura MDX. Now all I have to do is find a way to disable the SH-AWD system except during the winter months and disable the A/C compressor during the winter period.
The inability to completely remove the seat bases from the tracks is a big reason we did not buy a 2011 Sienna. None of the dealers we talked to at the time were interested in getting involved in "modifying" a vehicle that was factory built.
If a buyer needs a flat floor in a van, check closely before buying a new Sienna.
+1 here. Seems ridiculous, doesn't it? This wasn't the only reason we bought something other than the Sienna, but it was right up there. Maybe they'll take care of some of these issues in the 2012 model in another year or so.
I'm not giving up. I don't need or want one of the second row seats. I use my van for carrying kayaks on top and mountain bikes inside and tow a pop up camper. For those who don't know all XLE models with one exception, come equipped with the towing package. When I need passenger seating I fold up the rear seats. I want a flat floor and I will get rid of the rails one way or another.
I'm replying to an old message, but yeah, the Honda interior is very, very nice. The quality of the materials are better than in the previous version, which was already better than what is in the new Sienna.
Also, believe it or not, at the moment, I've got a quote on a 2011 Odyssey EXL RES than is less than my quote on a 2011 Sienna XLE w/rear entertainment package.
Very clever, but the article explains that new 2011 models have not ramped up in production yet, so the number of days supply is obviously lower than their 2010 counterparts. One should not conclude that the 2011 Odyssey, for example, is much more popular than the 2011 Sienna (which has been in production for almost a year). This is not news; it is a phenomenon that occurs almost every model year.
Yes, the 4runner is likely picking up lots of Ford Explorer sales now that anyone waiting for the new restyled and re-engineered(??) 2011 Explorer is discovering that it's simply a rebadged version of the patently UNSAFE FWD or F/awd Taurus X and the earlier FreeStyle.
This is a continuation of post #565. The tracks can be removed by dropping the gas tank and the heat ducts exposing under floor bolts in addition to one accessible from inside the compartment. I'm beaten. I'm not doing this and I will live with the humps. Sad situation.
My wife's sienna 2011 limited has the time off by one hour since the time change! we have check the day light savings time on and off and tried to update the time zone to even fake it out but it doesn't update. This car does have the navigation system and it looks like it gets the time from satellite so I don't know how to change it?! I believe it is broken!
Second on the rear electric hatch when we push the button it just opens the hatch as in just unlatched but doesn't lift up. Is there a way to push that button and expect it to raise automatically?
This is the same claim about the Explorer posted on several other sites by the same poster, all without a shred of evidence to support it. Choose a 4Runner or Explorer based on your own preferences and tastes, but don't be misled by unsupported phantom claims.
Your dealer should have explained the lockout button for the rear hatch for you. I'm sure it's in the manual, but easy to miss. Be sure to keep that in mind when you get the score card for the dealer's performance.
By the way, the button is just a little to the left and below the wheel to take your rear hatch out of manual mode.
A friend of ours who as the same 2011 Sienna as us (a 2011 AWD Ltd.) informed us that her van was recalled. I checked with Toyota and discovered that there has been a recall / service campaign for certain models of the 2011 Toyota Sienna:
Below is what I pulled off of the website (as a registered Owner) when I entered my VIN:
1. Safety Recall A0P - Certain 2011 Model Year Toyota Sienna Vehicles Brake Light (Stop Lamp) Switch Bracket Code: A1P Memo
Toyota is currently preparing the remedy parts. We anticipate that a small number of parts will be available in Feb. 2011. At which time, Toyota will begin notifying owners.
Condition: The stop lamp switch is mounted on a bracket welded on the left side of the brake pedal support assembly. The bracket is relatively close to a fully applied parking brake pedal. Due to its proximity to the parking brake pedal, in limited circumstances the stop lamp switch bracket could be deformed by the driver’s foot during parking brake application. This condition may result in the stop lamp switch engaging, causing the brake lights to remain on. If the deformation is significant, the service brake could become partially engaged resulting in brake drag with associated noise, vibration, and/or illumination of the brake warning light. If the driver does not notice these conditions and continues driving the vehicle, braking effectiveness could be reduced.
If you have recently completed any of these campaigns at an authorized Toyota Dealership, please disregard the notification above.
I bought a 2011 Sienna XLE with XM radio NavTraffic. It came with 90 day free trial, of course, during which time we used the NavTraffic feature extensively. It displayed traffic speeds and accidents right on the nav screen.
Now the trial has expired and I called XM radio to purchase this service. They claim my Sienna XLE radio is not capable of the NavTraffic service, despite the fact that I was using it for 90 days! Consequently, they can only activate the XM radio part, but not the traffic part.
Well I also have the XLE with navigation, I got mine in May and I never realized in my 90 day trial about the traffic speed and accidents. (I subscribe now to XM as well) To be honest I'm not impressed with the NAV system. I wonder if there's a way to update the maps. If anyone responds to your thread Ill be curious to read it as well.
Our '08 Toyota 4Runner's nav system is DVD based, and I think the Sienna is as well. This means we must wait for a new release of the DVD (approx. every 2 years) and pay $200 for the privilige of an update. When we shopped for our newest vehicle ('10 Chrysler Town & Country Limited) we made sure it did NOT come with navigation. We instead use my iPod Touch with TomTom car adapter and USA maps application mounted on the windshield. Love it. Has lane assist and comes with free map updates 4 times/year.
Hello all, I have a 2011 Sienna w/nav. Everytime we get in the van the DVD player is on and has already started playing from where it left off. How do I stop this? There is a "auto start" setting under the DVD tab but toggling it does not do anything. Anybody else experiencing this?
I have a 2011 Toyota Tundra Platinum that I purchased in December 2010 and have been experiencing the same problem as you are with the Navtraffic. After some call from me and the dealer, XM finally admitted that they are having issues in programming the Navtraffic services on the 2011 model year navigation systems. It's been a month since I've been at it and quite frankly, I'm not sure what XM is doing about it. I've been all the way up the corporate line to their Level 3 support team, as has my dealer. If you have a vehicle that is a 2010 you are not affected by it. I plan to write to Toyota today to see if they can place some pressure and/or at least let the customers know that even though they have Navtraffic capabilities on their navigation systems in their vehicle, that it may not be operational due to XM's inability to program the systems. Please note that this does not affect XM radio just Navtraffic. By the way: My Navtraffic worked also, until I called XM to transfer the trial into my name. Hope this helps.
My new 2011 Toyota Sienna has a leak. The area where the 3rd row seat folds down into fills with water every time it rains. I have taken it in for service 6 times and it has only gotten worse. I was told it was the gasket, then there were some holes in the floor that had not been sealed or they forgot to dry the carpet but the problem was (not) fixed. I am now asking for arbitration and want my money back. Anyone have experience with arbitration and Toyota?
As you file your claim against Toyota, it might be a good idea to also file a report on the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation database at https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/. Good luck. Hope things work out.
My 2011 Sienna is currently at the deadership and I've only had it for 5 weeks. Battery died twice last Thur and Sat. Service rep said the computer hooked up to the van said to "contact toyota". I take that as meaning this is a corporate wide issue and not some small short the dealer can address. Rep is claiming they are waiting for electrical/computer replacement parts. This is the 5th business day they have had the van. Beenn reviewing forums this AM and am quickly regretting leasing a newly deisgned vehicle. Wait for the 2012.
Yes. A base model Rav 4. They are replacing both sliding door motors. Parts came in yesterday 08Feb and 1 of the motors was damaged. No ETA on the other motor as of this afternoon. They not know if replacing these motors will correct the issue until they hook everything back up to the computer. Lemon law is ~20 days off the road right?? Have to do some research on that front....
I own a 2004 Sienna XLE LTD (Loaded including the laser guided cruise control). I also just took delivery of a 2011 Sienna LTD (FWD) also loaded and have 850 miles on the car. Probably the most expensive van on the road today! My observations follow: The rear wiper rotates from above rather than from below as was the case in the 2004 model. Given all the snow and road mist of the last two weeks, the rear window presents a driving and safety hazard. Taking some approximate measurements of the rear window area, total area approximates 7.625 sq. ft. The total clean wiping area is 2.5 sq. ft. giving a 32.7869% clean area. The lower left quadrant is particularly bad for the driver to observe cars directly on the rear left quarter. Why would someone design a wiper that only cleans less than a 1/3 of the rear window? The design engineer should be fired and the safety engineer should be re-trained. The center console is totally dysfunctional. The old console had a small tilt up panel with a pencil and pad holder. Under this panel was a small storage area, and below was a large storage area for the head phones. The new console is one large box. Imagine trying to find a pad and pencil and other items put in the only driver's stowage area. This is akin to a woman w/a large purse having to empty the whole purse to find a pencil, comb or a set of keys. Gear Shift is too close to the wiper lever on the steering wheel. Old model Sienna had a purse holder in the front passenger compartment which we used to hold small AAA plastic trash bag. New model eliminated this nice feature.
Never thought of it that way but you have a point. Ostensibly, the designers were concerned about the weight of snow and ice on the wiper when installed in the lower position. Yea, right! I have driven my 2004 XLE LTD in the mid-Atlantic area for 6 years and never once had an ice buildup on my rear wiper.
Saving $$, sacrificing safety and field testing resulted in this absurd wiper position which clearly is a major hazard. One day of driving on a stormy day would have clearly identified a major design flaw.
The ostensible Inv Price is around $50K. My price (fully loaded including side panels) was $41500. Then I got all the dealer's bells & whistles, which included full 7yr, 100k mechanical warranty, never polish the car and paint finish warranty, full interior on leather seats and rug warranty (replace anything that happens in the interior), undercoat. Price at the curb taxes and tags was around $46.5K.
I shopped the heck for out of this car since the ATP option is truly a special order item in the mid-Atlantic states that took almost 6 mos. delivery. I would not take a car w/o that option.
My main concern is still the rear wiper position. Driving my wife crazy over the lower left quadrant blind spot when road mist covers the rear window.
I think you would have spent more an an Ody Touring Elite, honestly.
For the windows - have you tried Rain X? That helps keep things from sticking on the glass in the first place. It's like wax for your paint job.
That helps somewhat. Even with good wiper coverage the rear hatch gets super sloppy when I run the wipers. I clean it as every gas fill-up, and Rain X it a couple of times per year.
In short you got vehicle which you don't like. I could see that somebody might not like rear wiper design but how is it a safety hazard? What you do with passangers in third row?. I and many others have driven a truck for a living with no window in a back putting more miles then Sienna is physically capable without overhaul and had no problems driving it. The only issue was backing up, but then again Sienna has back up camera as a standard equipment.

So Ody took the first few rounds, but looks like the Sienna is punching back.

I think the fact that there are only 6 days of Highlander inventory available is far more remarkable. That model only got a mild refresh. Wow.
6 days of supply for the 4Runner as well, wow!

At $24,595 they're still targeting the value end of the segment.

I am sure the clock is broken. My dealership I bought it from and the local one acted like I was an idiot...

anyone know if there can be any type of recourse?

Anyone else deal with this? How?
LM = Lifetime map updates for free
T = free Traffic capability
The Nuvi 1490 is a 5" model, with bluetooth and text-to-speed. I have one and love it.
Hope this helps.
Anyone have an idea if it is still offered?
When you get it back, ask for an extended warranty of some sort.
I thought you had a whole year, though. Again, search for your state.
Hopefully they fix it on the first visit.
