I just picked up a 01 EX sedan in Fire pepper Red! This color is awesome on the Accord. I waited 2 weeks for my local dealer (Albany City) to receive one in Fire pepper Red.

I just saw a new LX I4 -2001 in our company parking lot this morning. It had a beautiful dark blue color I've never seen before. Does anyone know if the V6 vars come in this color as well?

I've been reading my manual on the heating and cooling system please tell me where is the fresh air mode the manual refers to.
  • kaycee41kaycee41 Member Posts: 23
Sorry, the Eternal Blue only comes in the 4 cyl models. It is a beautiful color. If you want the EX with leather you can only get it with the ivory interior. I'm wondering if they'll offer the blue in a 6cyl next year or maybe in 2003. I'd like to see them offer a choice of Charcoal or Ivory interior. Am I asking for too much?

    re: dark emerald pearl--

i just traded in a '00 Accord LX 5-speed sedan in that color.

and i just moved from Vermont, too!

    shoulda sold it to you!

you're right about the color, though: living in one of the ten cloudiest cities (Burlington, VT), that dark emerald pearl looked BLACK most of the time. only in sunlight did it look richly green. as far as Honda greens go, i always liked the clover green pearl on the civic. brighter, but still a nice green.

I put the splash guards on my sedan by myself - I'm sure the coupe would be similar. They were pretty easy to install, except I found that I had to remove the rear wheels. You need to be able to put some muscle into the screwdriver to punch through the dimple in the plastic where the screws go, and although I used my shortest screwdriver, I couldn't get the leverage. I could in the front just by angling the wheels. After I made the space, I was able to use a power screwdriver which made it even easier. You can get good prices from Honda suppliers on the Internet like www.partscheap.com or www.hparts.com - I'm sure there are many others - and either buy from them or ask your dealer to match their prices.

I also wasn't happy with the service dept. at my selling dealer, so I went to another one. I'm much happier now. I wouldn't hesitate to do so if you're in the same boat.
  • kaycee41kaycee41 Member Posts: 23
Thanks for the info. on installing splash guards! Did you notice much of a difference after you installed the guards...does the car stay cleaner, less splashing? In other words, is it worth the cost/time involved?

Just bought new 01 Accord Sedan EX 5 spd, Firepepper Red Pearl - salesperson's demo with 4600 miles for $19,000 - about $500 under invoice. This is the fourth Accord I've owned - had an '89, '92, '95 and now an '01. I'm continually amazed at how each generation Accord improves! This is a great car - much quieter than my previous Accord. It feels solid - just exudes quality. Plus, just averaged 30 mpg on my first tank of mostly around-town driving. Hoping to hit 33-34 mpg on the highway.

I was amazed at how difficult it was finding Accords with manual transmissions. Apparently not many people want them anymore. My dealer had 2 5-spd Accords out of maybe 60 on the lot.

I was even more amazed at getting $4,750 for my trade - a '95 Accord LX with 138,000 miles. It needed a couple grand worth of work to keep it going - new clutch, struts, rear brakes, axles, gas guage sending unit, a/c recharge, plus was developing an ominous clunk from the front end. It was also starting to form rust bubbles in the rear quarter panels. I figured it was worth putting that money into a new car rather than into the old one. But it did serve me well, I didn't put more than $1,500 in maintenance and repairs over the life of the car.

Considering that I only paid $16,000 for the car - that would be $11250 in depreciation, approx $2800 in interest, $1500 in maintenance, $3600 in insurance, $5520 in gas, and about $1200 in registration fees. That works out to .19/mile. Bet you can't beat that with a Hyundai!

It can be hard to tell how effective splash guards are here in the Northeast. With all the road salt and so forth, the car's gonna get dirty in the winter no matter what you do. In the summer, the dirt and dust is hidden pretty well by the light color of my car (Naples Gold). I put them on right after I got the car, so I can't give a "before and after" description. But I really got them for two other reasons: first, to protect the sides of the car from rocks and gravel kicked up by the wheels and second, because I like the way they look. After a year, the sides of the car seem to be in good shape and I still like the way the guards look. So for me it was worth it, but others might well disagree.

Hey everyone! I'm looking at purchasing a new car in the next month or so, and I was wondering if any of you could give me what a fair price should be on a 2001 Accord EX w/ auto transmission. I live in North Carolina if that makes any difference. Thanks!
  • jordan1212jordan1212 Member Posts: 4
I live in St. Louis and am paying $23300, and that included mud guards, and the pin stripe. I didn't haggle too much because they gave me $10,000 for my 97 Civic Coupe EX, (Edmunds said it was worth $9400). I chose the green over the silver, very hard decision. I hope the leather seats hold up, I have never had leather seats.

    I bought a 98 Accord EX ULEV, Automatic, Leather, 17K miles, for $16K !!!
Seems to be a pretty decent deal, but I am noticing some minor "problems" now. My previous car was a 99Corolla, so everything is a bit relative:))

    1) Road noise : Significantly higher, but from the posts, it is a standard Honda Feature :))
    2) Cold Engine : Engine hesitation while near idle speeds, seems to be while shifting, but I am not sure. Firstly I thought that it was stalling, but later I found that it does not occur when the engine has warmed up. I found a post at about the early 700 ranges regarding a similar problem , but no responses :(((
    3) Braking : At near stop, there is a slight bump before dead stop. Again, it seems it has been adressed in this forum, but I just could not get the reason or the remedy.

None of these problems are phenomenal, but it is giving me a slightly uncomfortable feeling about the deal. So I would be really greatful for an answer.
  • smithmdsmithmd Member Posts: 167
I recently purchased a '98 automatic, as well. I came from a '95 5-spd. I'll follow your numbering scheme for ease of reference.

    2) My engine did the same "almost stall" act until I changed the PCV valve ($2.45 and 3 minutes). Mine was really gummed up. I also thought that the car felt like it was bogging down or stalling during shifts, but I think that this is just a "feature" to make the shifts smoother. I don't really know.

    3) The slight bump you feel is the transmission shifting from 2nd gear down to 1st. It waits until the last possible nano-second to do this. If you do a rolling stop and then stomp on the gas, you'll get a rough 2nd to 1st shift because the car hadn't gotten down to 1st, yet. This logic should make the car drive more smoothly under normal driving conditions, but if you're aggressive, it takes some getting used to.

    Hope this helps!
  • debudebu Member Posts: 9
    Thanks for your reply.
I had contacted the service department of the dealers. They actually recommended to use a higher grade of gasoline :!!!!!!!

Anyway, I'll try to replace the PCV, can it be done by myself ?
  • smithmdsmithmd Member Posts: 167
You can definitely do it yourself. Just get the part from a local parts store...it's cheap. The only tool you'll need is a pair of pliers to move the hose clamp. The valve is right on top of the motor when you open the hood. You'll need to move the hose clamp to remove the hose and then just pull the valve out of the top of the motor with your hand. The new valve will probably feel a little snug when you push it in. The whole thing will be suprisingly easy.

The new valve should rattle a lot when you shake it. If the old one still rattles a lot when you shake it, it might not be your problem. But, if it's pretty quiet when you shake it, the change should help your problems.

    Good luck!

I have recently purchased a '01 Accord LX 4cy. and have been having radio problems. It seems that every few days the radio stations I set automatically reset themselves. The dealer has never heard of the problem, and of course I have no way of showing them how it happens. Has anyone had, or heard of this problem? Unfortunately I have to sell the car (job change, GM company car, aarrgghh!) Also, where's the best place to list of brand new car for resale? Thanks.

Check your fuses. I know this sounds strange, but I recently purchased a used '97 Accord, and had the same problem with the radio. While the radio worked, it kept losing its settings. At first, I thought it was my battery. I had it in the shop for some other work, and they discovered a blown fuse. The radio now holds its settings as it should.

Yes, I had a EXV6 w leather on a 36 mth / 36K mile lease and I cried when it had to go back.

Absolutely awesome car and tremendous value for money. Leased through AHFC for 375pm with 0 down.

2 trips to the dealer for other than oil :

    1. Engine warning light on because we didn't tighten down the fuel filler cap
    2. Repair work after someone backed into it in the parking lot.

Looking at up market cars now while diving our third vehicle (Tacoma) but keep coming back to the tremendous value we had in the Honda - Only difference is I would prob go for the LX V6 next time - reputedly even better value !!!!

In response to golfprdgy. I just picked up an '01 EX 5sp for $100 over invoice.

There's a glut of Accords out there right now and most of them are LXs and EXs with automatics, that's why they're offering 3.9% for 3 years until the end of the month on the 4 bangers.

If you go to carsdirect.com and price it out first, then go to a dealer with paper in hand, you should hold your ground and cut yourself a real good deal.

Invoice for your car, including destination, is $20,198. If you pay more than 20,300 then you'll be paying too much.

Regarding your radio problems: the same thing happened to the radio on my last Honda, a 96 Accord LX. The dealership immediately replaced the radio, and no further problems. I have a friend who is on her fourth radio for her 01 EX-6, however. (So far mine works fine in my new EX.)

There a lots of posts about problems with the Civic's radio. Hope the problem didn't migrate over to the Accord.

I have to confess that I did post this same mesg in "Maintenance & Repair", "Honda Accord Problems Part 2". Try to get more respond before going into the dealership this coming monday 02/26/01.

Just got my 01 Dark Green EX-V6 yesterday evening before the dealer close...
1st of all, I love that car! It is so sweet; no question about it! Only diff decision was the color - a silver or a dark green.

Before I drove away, I did noticed that the driver side door didn't open and close that nicely... When I open the driver door, it seems like the door is popping out and it is harder to close compared to other doors. The salesman told me that every car is builded differently and it may feels different in every Honda; but a technician and him both acknowledged that the driver door does felt diff when opening and closing. He told me that it was probably NEW or an alignment problem when install the driver door. So, he assured me that if the problem persist, he will fix it for me until I am happy.

From my past experience (I drove a wrecked used car when I was in college), that's how it feels. Of course, the 01 EX-V6 didn't feel that bad, but you can tell it is kind of a similar feeling but in a more minor scale.

So, I told him how I felt and ask him what if the car has structural damage... He said if the car really has a structural damage, they can replace one for me... but I don't really trust him on this... Again, he told me that he don't think that's the problem and he think the problem will go away by itself because his theory was the car is brand new (ONLY 1 MILE on the ODO).

This morning, I went out to "enjoy" my new baby in my garage and noticed that the rear portion of my sunroof on the driver side is sited higher than the other 3 corners of the sunroof. So, I make sure that the sunroof is fully closed and check again... Same observation!!! I went behind the car and look at the structure of the roof around the sunroof from behind and noticed a shallow "DEN" in that area where I complained the sunroof was a bit higher than usual.... I look at the same area on the f-passenger side and I don't see a den but a smooth surface...... My God!! I felt so sad now....!! (the reason why I can see the den clearly is because the color is so dark that you will be able to see the den's reflection easily; probably won't notice that easily if it is a Silver color...)

I called the saleman and he asked me to go in on Monday to talk to the service manager to re-solve this issue. Personally, I would like to get a new replacement car because I have pay so much money for it - $23,000 with Audio panel wood trim kit and cargo net and I don't think I will settled for paying a brand new car and get a damaged car. But my gut feelings tell me that the dealer won't be too happy to give me a replacement car and they will try very hard to avoid that...

Furthermore, you never know what really happended to the car and what it will do to your car in the long run..... (I bought a wrecked car in college before).

So, for the expert out there... Do you guys think that if there's really a den in the car or if the structure is damaged, can I demand for a new replacement car? I only had the car for less than 24 hours and i have reported the problem to the dealer and even before I drove the car away... On top of that, the saleman didn't let me sign the paper work about the car was inspected by the Honda technicial and that I agree on all the items were checked and ok; but he did include the form in the paperwork I bring home. The from has everything checked but no signature of a technicial and mine...

Thanks in advance and thanks for reading my sad and lousy long mesg. Thank you!

I just bought a 2001 Honda Accord EX. I'm a little concerned about the suspension system. I feel every ripple or bump on the road. I love everything else about the car but expected the ride to be smoother. I've checked the tire air pressure and made sure they all read 30. Does anyone have this problem or is this the way this car is supposed to handle?
  • agnesz1agnesz1 Member Posts: 2
I'm in the process of buying 2001 Accord ex6cyl.
The cars looks great with a spoiler. I can't seem to find a price for it. The dealer has quoted me $800. that seems a little steep. I live in NY
Also he quoted me an extra $200, if I want more wood trim, specifically around the stereo area.
    Do these prices sound right?
  • ral2167ral2167 Member Posts: 791
well, feeling every bump and tar strip on the road is supposed to be the advantage to the accord over the camry/solara....evidently, this makes the accord "sportier" than the camry/solara.... i imagine if you bought a camry, you wouldn't feel those ripples and bumps nearly as much.... but then, you'd be driving an "old man's car"--- nuts? i think not
  • bgabel1260bgabel1260 Member Posts: 135
$800 is outrageous. Slap that dealer's face for me, will you? I paid $465 installed for my Accord spoiler.
  • agnesz1agnesz1 Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the ammo bgabel1260. I have some serious neg. to due with the dealer. he's also asking 23,600 for the car.. I just found out in my area i shouldn't be paining more then 23,121

looking to get a lease price of $ 199 per month with zero down. my 3 year lease of honda civic coming up soon. is this reasonable, since being a second time lessor. located in buffalo ny. please reply
  • kaycee41kaycee41 Member Posts: 23
Read my past-post no. 791. I had the same experience with a dealer jacking up the prices of accessories. Honda's wedsite lists sug. retail for the accord spoiler at $499 + $70 labor. Tell that to the dealer! I think they mark up the parts about 11% (from what I have read), so you may be able to negotiate lower...who wants to pay seg retail???? Good luck!
  • ral2167ral2167 Member Posts: 791
i assume you are referring to an ACCORD VP package... lease price i saw in paper today advertised was for $189 a month-- 36 months-- but with about $1600 down--- so if you're looking for $199 a month with no down, for 36 or 39 months, not sure you'd be able to find that-- saturn has its SL1 for 199 a month for 36 months with 0 down-- but who cranks windows nowadays? you can beat the fenders with a wiffle ball bat with no damage, but that's about it with the saturn-- honda runs rings around saturn (get it?)
  • mpgmanmpgman Member Posts: 723
Considering a Value Package DX. Use E-Z pass so never crank window down for tolls! Is there a big difference between the 135hp and VTEC 4s? Miles per gallon? Acceleration? Can buy a VP for $15,700 including freight and side air bags. How can you go wrong for that price?
  • rs311rs311 Member Posts: 3
Thanks for all of the input, I returned to the dealership for a warranty repair (possible loose nuts in the steering wheel, under the horn?) A more knowledgeable repair rep told me that he had heard of the radio problem, and there was supposed to be a fix for it in the next month or two. I hate to do this, but I need to sell my baby soon. Paid $18,500 for '01 Coupe, LX, Eternal Blue, w/Tint, Spoiler, Alarm, Bra. I'm in AZ, but relocating to Northern CA. I'll sell for what I paid, and eat the $2,000 in sales tax.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
How will that benefit anybody? You may "eat" the sales tax but the new buyer will have to pay it anyway when they register the car!

    Good luck, though.
  • snowmansnowman Member Posts: 540
No offense but I think you will eat more than that. It is very hard to find a buyer for that much money, people prefer dealers because of paperwork hassle that they may go thru with private seller.
  • zipp27zipp27 Member Posts: 4
ral, thanks for you reply. i had that same info, however i was hoping they would drop the down payment for lease loyalty. i know about the saturn, but i was hoping to up grade to a accord 4 banger. do you own a accord? if you do please tell me if it is a 4 cyl or 6 and what model, dx. ex. do you like it and whatyou dont like about the car. looking forward to your response. thank you
  • rs311rs311 Member Posts: 3
Yep, I didn't think about the sales tax on the backend, but I just sold the car today anyway. As far as the paper work goes, it was much easier than spending 4 hours at the dealership. I got the $18,500 for it, but I'm just glad the person I sold it too doesn't have a clue about internet, much less edmunds.com.

The only downfall to the whole process is the fact that I will be receiving a General Motors company car. At least I won't be stuck paying for all the warranty work.

    Thanks for the input...
  • ral2167ral2167 Member Posts: 791
i own a solara v6 5 speed-- not an accord-- i used to own a 1988 accord lxi hatchback...

i've test driven accord when i purchased the solara-- i would have been happy with accord-- just wanted a manual with a V6.... my next car i'll probably go back to honda only because i like to change between honda and toyota every 1 or 2 cars.... maybe i get tired of the font on the speedometer, or just want a change... if you decide to go with the honda, i'm sure you'll make out all right... the 3.9% financing ends this week--- but then, maybe they'll extend it again...

ol daimler chrysler sure is hurting, eh?
  • canadianclcanadiancl Member Posts: 1,078
How big is this "dent" on the roof? Or does it look like the roof has buckled, which may indicate structural damage? Maybe the roof "dent" and the door not opening properly are related. Look at the gappings in the door. Are they all even?
  • kb4utzkb4utz Member Posts: 6
Does anyone know if the 2001 Accord LX has resistor-type spark plugs and wires? I've installed a mobile ham radio rig in my Accord and I'm getting quite a bit of "whine" through the rig. The sound varies with the speed of the engine and is not present when the engine is off.

    Thanks.
  • soberssobers Member Posts: 496
There is a likelihood that APR won't stay longer. Accord sold 34K last month & this month figure would also be in the same ballpark. Given these good figures, I guess they might chooose not to give APR at least for next 3-4 months. Ofcourse this is just a guess. It is significant that the new Civic has not yet seen the APR/Incentive.

I just purchased a EX V6 Accord, silver. Oh my god this is a hot car. I bought the rear spoiler and wood audio trimming for $23,300.00 in Hillside Honda, NY. I couldn't be happier. The car is so quit, yet very fast, but still a sedan. I have nothing but good things to say about the new 2001 Accord...... If you're thinking of buying one, then why not purchase the best in it's class! The Accord EX V6 is the only way to go, forget about the V4!
  • ineto6ineto6 Member Posts: 161
but I doubt that any car will be sporting a V4 anytime soon. You might find that configuration in a motorcycle though. Inline-4 is smoother just like an Inline-6 is inherently smoother than a V-6..... but you won't notice it much with these good V6s nowadays.

Yes they are both resistor-type. The Honda wires that are on the car are about the best on the market and very rarely go bad and or cause any problems. I have had friends experiance similar problems some with limited success installing supresor in power line for fuel pump, but for the best result set up a seperate power supply in the trunk area. You may want to test your results first but that was the best set up for my friends high power cb. Good luck...

    Hi,

I just bought a new 2001 EX V6. It's a great car, but I did find one annoying little detail: I can feel a vibration in the gas pedal every time I accelerate. Is that "normal" or should I mention it to the dealer? (I don't hold my breath on what they're gonna tell me: oh they all do that, most certainly). Is someone experienced this out there?
    Thank you very much.

The gas pedal vibration is not normal. Go see the dealer and tell them to fix it.
