I can post pics right here on the forums, e-mail me at the address in my profile, maybe 3-4 of the best ones, and maybe a quick narraration of each for me to copy/paste in to my post.
I would like to get your wiring info, you do not have a e-mail posted in your profile. My e-mail is listed, if you could e-mail me I would appreciate it.
I'm impressed by that image quality, it's very clear. The house is far away yet you can really see it quite well, better than a lot of camera phones I've played with.
I have been looking for a rear cam solution, because my wife almost backed over a 3 yr old at a daycare center (couldn't see her). I would be very interested in the wiring info, and any other info you might have that would assist with the install. The more I know the less the installer can rip me off.
wiring is simple once you have the Rgb synch unit. Some drilling required. Then all you need is to snake teh cable up to the top of the hatch, thru the rubber thingy at the hacth hinge. That brings the wire into the car, from then on all u really need to do is work it through the front. if the install knows what they are doing. it should only take one hour.
* you dont need to remove entierior panels * hooking up the unit is straight forward, no cutting of the GPS cable, its plug n play if u get the unit from AVElectronic.com. if you dont want to get thier unit then you will need to build a rgb synch convertor. other vendors do sell them, not for the Subaru. they tend to be more expensive
* All the power wires are behind the GPS unit. see picture posted in earlier thread
i will add my email address to my profile, in case anyone wants to email me
2007 B9 Tribeca is expected to be unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show next week. One of the rumored changes is availability of a mesh grill. Not sure if it'll be black, body color or chrome. I'd wait to see what happens on that front before looking anywhere else. It may be just a matter of ordering the parts from Subaru in a few months, once the '07s are for sale.
Great info, much appreciated. I e-mailed AVElectronic to get pricing and info on the wiring and rgb synch convertor. Will let you know how it progresses.
Thanks for the info on the Detroit show. I think a Chrome mesh insert, would clean up the front and give my Obsidian Black Tribeca an edgier look. I also removed the dealer badging and the words "Subaru" and "Tribeca" leaving only the B9. I lived in Europe for a while and badging removal was the norm. It also confuses the hell out of people, who have asked me if I had a modified Murano or FX35. I like not seeing my vehicle around every turn, so if they can't figure it out I say it's a new Alfa Romeo, just to confuse them further (there is some truth to that statement...:).
I also removed all but the B9.. I started with just the Subaru. but I definitely prefer just the B9 as the best. I have seen a totally naked back end and did not like it. just too empty. also easier to wax the back hatch now with only B9 to worry about
I have also had this problem with the hatch falling on our heads. Seems to me to be worse in cold weather, but that could just be a coincendence?? My dealer said he can't get the parts now- probably cause they are changing to a new one- and they will call me when he can get the new struts in. I'd think they would want to handle a potential safety issue faster than they are?!!
It's probably a supplier issue - they have a fix but can't get enough of them to meet demand (both from existing owners and for newly assembled models).
Just completed 1,000 miles. I have noticed kind of a rough idle, when I am at a stop with my foot on the brake. Just feels rougher than it should and at a stop I feel a mild vibration in the pedal from the rough idle. The Tribeca I test drove did not have this issue and I had a Legacy GT for 2 days as a loaner and at times did not even realize the vehicle was on. Any thoughts? :confuse:
The defective struts are covered under the bumper to bumper warranty. There should not any charge if they failed - unless there obvious damage from mis-use or an collision.
Ok. Similiar to another person on heres dealer mine also seem to have the rear hatch struts right away but like everything else I mention they say they didn't have anyone else with the problem. I explained to them its basically a recall on the original struts or at least first batch of Tribecas.
I guess they just like to play clueless or pretend you are a problem if you are an educated customer. Regardless they have them and I have to make an appointment to have them installed.
Hopefully it will not be a problem and I should not be charged for them.
I also wanted to report that the creaking I had was due to a crack in the bushing of one of the front control arms (there are 2 right nad left).
This may have been worsened by a fender bender in that area but the other side that wasn't involved in that at all was showing signs of starting to crack and may become a problem later.
The mechanic said it was a design flaw so this may be something else to look at for along the lines of a recall. The front right and left control arm bushings cracking. Next time you are in for service have them look at these. If you shine a light at them you can see they are starting to crack and similiar to the rear hatch struts were not strong enough at least on the early Tribecas.
Going to the car show tonight in my city and will talk to the Subaru reps on hand about this and other Tribeca related matters including changes for the 07 model.
T as in Turbo! Caribe is how we say Carribean in Latin America.
Heh, that is a good one. I've used the spanish word Caribe before in a drink menu I made for a party in spanish.
I like the T for turbo but its kind of like faking it. haven't had hte chance take off anything other then subaru yet but probably just going to leave it as B9 Beca T (only a maybe on the T) heh.
Cluelesspa, Sorry I never got back to you about the hubcentric rings but it sounds like you got a great explanation on it. I'm glad my tire installer knew I needed them and put them on.
I ordered mine with an accessory subwoofer that came mounted under the driver's seat. I'm told another can be mounted under the passenger seat.
I have the premium sound (pff) with the subwoofer in the rear. I have Nav so that is under drivers seat. I might be interested in an additional factory sub under the passenger seat. Would that still be a Port only install?
Rumor has it a mesh grille will appear next model year, what say ye?
I like the idea. I've never been a fan of chrome, so it should look better with a mesh insert.
Other opinions?
-juice
That would be great. I'm not as anti chrome as you but I do see where it can look cheap and plasticky sometimes while a body color or black mesh grille would look more custome.
I've seen a lot of RX and couple other cars with diff grilles including Murano to the point i though it was like an option but it seems they may just be aftermarket.
I may look into that. On my satin white pearl, a body color white mesh grille would be great, or black to match the wheels and other accents.
reminds me I never posted pics of the 20" tires and black wheels. I dont have any great pics, only from cellphone and mostly not in good lighting or at night but what is the site for free pic hossting since this forum still doesn't seem to let you post pics.
I do have my 7mp digi cam with me for car show tonight so maybe I'll take a pic with that of my Beca.
Fifth guess, out on a limb, bluetooth. (What good is the calendar/contacts function if you have to manually enter everything?)
Sixth guess, six-speed manual.
Hm, Some of us early Tribeca adopters received a survey to fill out and one of the main questions was what features that are missing would you like to see added.
You mention some interesting ones but I think mine and others first top priority requested addition was integrated satellite radio.
I was in a Chrysler 300C AWD (Hemi) rental recently for a day when I was getting the bushing on the control arm of my beca replaced that was causing the creaking and it had factory integrated Sirius sat radio.
Of course I had to listen to Howard but mostly I was just spoiled by the display of the Sirius integrated on the Nav screen as well it had the basic info (channel, song) in teh dash area if you were looking at the map or something else on the main screen.
Besides wishing I had this rental instead of the crappy Ford Explorer i had when I was withouth my Beca for like 3 weeks it made me wonder even more why Subaru didn't have this feature as an option.
Prob, the most important that you mention would be the cargo cover. We all know it is somewhat of a disgrace and I hope they improve it to be retractable like all other mid suvs have even with 3rd row. If they can't figure it out just copy Highlanders or something. Again I hope if they do improve this there will be an option for 06 owners to have it installed otherwise may have to sell.
So that is definately probably the #1 request for new feature to be added to 07 Tribeca. Then the only question on that as with any of the new features they may add, is, Will 06 B9 owners be able to add any of these options?
Might not be possible on some including the sat radio which would suck and though i'm not stuck in a lease, to sell my 06 just to get an 07 B9 after only having it a year I would prob lose considerable amount just on depreciation especially since I paid only 1000 under msrp and not near invoice.
Bluetooth is another good one and i think my second most requested feature to add but when I think about it, I just use a bt headset in the car and having it integrated in the sound system and play over car speakers is cool but not totally neccesary adn means you prob can't listen to music at low volume in background while on phone.
I know a lot of ppl have mentioned memory seat and it would be good but I would still give that up and continue to do without it for integrated sat radio especially one that can record. I will say that is one great thing about the Delphi xm 2 go portable device that I and othersreceived as a free promotional gift when pre ordering a B9 Tribeca. The ability to record is extremely convenient as there is a show that airs during the day that I would otherwise not be able to hear that I then listen to on the way home from work.
Also the ability to use it in the house and on the go as a portable is something you can't do with the integrated car unit but for tuning to diff channels for live listening it would be much better. My dealer promised installation of the portable unit in the car and then later his associate said it wasn't made for the car and was a portable unit which he agreed even though it clearly says its also for use in vehichle with instructions on how to do it. I dont think i need or really want the holster mounted but they are going to have their local audio place install the antenna more professionaly then what I do now just putting it out the window and sticking the magnet to the black trim around window nad closing window on the wire. Works great but a little sloppy. They are going to hide wire in headliner and just have it permanentlyh mounted with the end of the antenna wire up front whre I can plug and unplug it like my audio cable connected to rear inputs.
speaking of which that would be another good addition for ppl without the dvd option but besides having to run the cord from the back and hide it, the rear input works great.
Hid lights would be cool as even Murano has them and it can always be an option but that would be hard to add later and would prob be a factory only option.
Most of these grills are plastic nowadays aren't they? Should test out some of the new spray paints for plastic that the big box stores now sell. You could paint to match
thats a good idea. I would try white if they had something close to the satin pearl and i could do it without making a mess. Still wouldsn't change the shape of grille itself as I would prefer more of a mesh then the bars going across.
What black paint would anyone recommend to cover the Subaru lettering on the front hood protector (nose guard)and moonroof wind deflector? (though those letters you only seem to see from the inside underneath).
Subaru's "world debut" at the Chicago Auto Show Feb. 9 will apparently be the 2007 B9 Tribeca. It'll be interesting to see what they've done to the grille and what features they've added.
This pulled from page 2 of the update, describing the schedule for Feb. 9: Volkswagen has had the Golf running about Europe for a bit now, but it’s high time to bring the to North America, and in Chicago they will. Wonder if the philly auto show will have it the last 3 days of the show after the world debut of it on the 9th in Chicago, so on the 10-12. prob not, otherwise i would rather go those days then today.
they showed a black mesh grille at the philly auto show on a Tribeca? awesome! can't wait to see it. going tonight after work. i'll want that asap.
Was going to go with a rear view mirror back up cam possibly but will call/email avelectronics.com about the one they have already sucessfully done using nav screen. Then if sat radio isn't possible to the nav screen at least the back up cam is and maybe there is a sat radio with display in the rear view mirror possible?
can we get a llink to the problems thread with the part # for the new fixed rear hatch struts.
oh and I saw the later post that the grille is just black but not mesh. will check it out.
Avelectronics is based where? If its just a matter of ordering the already assembled rear cam then it shouldnt' matter. Will then just need local installer to install and hopefully its self explanaotory otherwise some basic instructions with it owuld be nice or one could compile instructions for the local installer based on info here and from the first guy who got it.
The black B9 (with black grille) at the Philadelphia Auto show says it was modified by Bosal Performance and is equipped with the following:
SPT/ Bosal 3" Exhaust System
SSBC Front FORCE 10 SuperTwin 2-piston Aluminum Caliper Brakes with 13" Turbo Slotted Rotors. Rear Calipers Also Turbo Slotted by SSBC. (the brake pads were red in color which looked good through the wheels on the black but I would maybe want them painted white or black on mine if i got the same ones)
Goodridge Steel Braided Brake Lines
20" x 8.5" Konig "Unknowns" Wheels (I almost got these from dtd)
BF Goodrich 265/50 R 20 g-Force T/A KDW Tires (not sure how they came up with this tire size as the only 20" size recommended by tire rack is 255/45/20 which is what I got after finding out from others that the 275/45/20 would rub) Regardless the KDW is a summer tire so I wouldn't be interested and the KDWS (all season) doesn't come in a 20"
[I do now kind of wish I had got the same MB wheels i got but in 22" with the Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico in 265/35/22 but may just look into some 20" tires in the 265/50/20 size they used (dtd has a few) as they obviously work unless Bosal or whoever did something else to make them fit but I doubt it and they should look bigger then the 255/45/20's.]
Also on the Bosal Performance modified B9 Tribeca at the auto show is:
2 Audiobahn 6" Screens(in the headrests but was hard to see in the back, nothing else looked diff up front, and was the beige leather) 2 10" Subwoofers & 500 Power Amplifier.
Graphics by Grafikdezine.com (I could do without most of them)
Combined Auto Body Paint (Grille & Headlights) so they just painted the stock grille and the inside of the headlight background (what is it regularly silver?) I'd think about doing the grille in black or maybe white to match the satin white pearl and the headlights maybe either black or white as well but if the inside is usually reflective silver painting might detract from that effect.
K&N AirCharger Air Intake
Special Thanks was to SOA, Subaru Performance Tuning (SPT), One guy from MSPT (Metric Subaru Performance Tuning), one guy from Bosal performance obviously, Konig Wheels, some guy who did the Audio and Video and some other guy who did the Installs & Fabrication and whatever else.
The only other info on the car was by way of graphics one that said Metric-Subaru.com which just seems to be a normal dealership up in NY state somewhere, but then on the front license plate frame it said MSPT tuned with the website www.mspt.com which seems to be that dealerships performance tuning shop (wish one of my local Subie dealers had one).
And on the mspt.com website you can see pictures of what I think is the same modified black B9 that was at the auto show though it has diff graphics then the one at the show (site shows jac on the hood while auto show had SPT on the hood for example). but its prob the same one.
x5killer - thanks for the great info and the links. Grill seems considerably more subtle with the black on black, helps unify the overall look of the front, I think, reducing some busy-ness. Maybe looks a little less exotic, though, but a little more sporting.
I'm betting that the '07 B9 Tribeca that debuts in Chicago tomorrow will have a different nose than this vehicle. I don't think Subaru would take their cue from a tuner and just remove the chrome. Especially considering the focus groups that looked at modified versions of the front end.
This info recently posted on another forum, saying they got an '07 brochure. Looks like I'm probably wrong about the nose... blacked out and chrome mesh versions available but not a re-work of the grill shape?
Here's the quote: "Not much has changed on the outside overall, but the "blacked-out" grill is better than the current chrome face and the chrome mesh is an improvement as well..... Not to mention, the chrome wheels.... Inside.... *XM Radio w/ IPod - MP3 hookups *Rear Vision Camera in back bumper w/Nav *2-Position Memory Seats *Brake Assist *Rollover Sensors for Side-Curtain Air Bags Options..... *Reverse Assist Sensors *Remote Starter *Cargo Cover New colors apparantly... A dark gray, a new silver color, no more green, few others...."
Sounds like some good improvements. Can't wait to see pics!
great info and news! I didn't think they would completley redesign the front end but that would have made our first model year more rare and a collector almost.
will have to see what the chrome mesh grille looks like and if its like the optional mesh grille on the rx I might like it especially cus its not bright chrome though so will prob like the black grille.
brochure says xm? woohoo but in what form? i'm assuming integrated and the question on that and these othe new options is can they be added to the 06 model? I should prob hold off any more mods/upgrades to my 06 for now then until we find out.
none of the other new aditions/options have me that excited but I wonder what the cargo cover will look like and how it will work. dark grey is a good color addition and looks good on the touareg so should on the b9.
if the xm and the cargo cover aren't able to be added to the 06 I may have to sell/trade in mine for the new but then would also consider other makes/models. when does the consumer reports annual car issue come out? march?
Since you are resident expert, do you know what would be involved in getting into the the headlight housing to paint the mirror surface as JAC did.
I am pretty sure I am going to get my grill painted Atlantic Blue Pearl to match the body and figure if they have to mix the paint - I might as well do the headlight housing as well. Since the lamps are all projector beams the paint should not affect their performance.
In most cases the headlight enclosure are sealed up.
I've heard of cases (don't laugh) where people actually put an entire headlight assembly in an warm oven to melt the glues so they can take them apart, usually to remove the yellow reflectors and go with the Altezza look (clear/white with a yellow bulb).
Pics are starting to pop up, there is still a chrome surround on the grille, but the inside is blacked out, and it still looks a lot better. The headlights are not smoked, like the ones on the Bosal appear to be.

try contacting MSPT and ask how they did it on the black B9 picutred on their site and seen at auto show.

Ok. Similiar to another person on heres dealer mine also seem to have the rear hatch struts right away but like everything else I mention they say they didn't have anyone else with the problem. I explained to them its basically a recall on the original struts or at least first batch of Tribecas.

2 Audiobahn 6" Screens(in the headrests but was hard to see in the back, nothing else looked diff up front, and was the beige leather)
2 10" Subwoofers & 500 Power Amplifier.
Graphics by Grafikdezine.com (I could do without most of them)
Combined Auto Body Paint (Grille & Headlights)
so they just painted the stock grille and the inside of the headlight background (what is it regularly silver?) I'd think about doing the grille in black or maybe white to match the satin white pearl and the headlights maybe either black or white as well but if the inside is usually reflective silver painting might detract from that effect.

And on the mspt.com website you can see pictures of what I think is the same modified black B9 that was at the auto show though it has diff graphics then the one at the show (site shows jac on the hood while auto show had SPT on the hood for example). but its prob the same one.
here is direct link to 2 of the pics of the black grille itself since that was a topic of interest.

I'm betting that the '07 B9 Tribeca that debuts in Chicago tomorrow will have a different nose than this vehicle. I don't think Subaru would take their cue from a tuner and just remove the chrome. Especially considering the focus groups that looked at modified versions of the front end.
Here's the quote:
"Not much has changed on the outside overall, but the "blacked-out" grill is better than the current chrome face and the chrome mesh is an improvement as well..... Not to mention, the chrome wheels....
Inside....
*XM Radio w/ IPod - MP3 hookups
*Rear Vision Camera in back bumper w/Nav
*2-Position Memory Seats
*Brake Assist
*Rollover Sensors for Side-Curtain Air Bags
Options.....
*Reverse Assist Sensors
*Remote Starter
*Cargo Cover
New colors apparantly... A dark gray, a new silver color, no more green, few others...."
Sounds like some good improvements. Can't wait to see pics!
Shiny. :shades:
Can you get blue with black leather in a 5 seater?
If I hear anything specific regarding blue w/black, I'll post.
will have to see what the chrome mesh grille looks like and if its like the optional mesh grille on the rx I might like it especially cus its not bright chrome though so will prob like the black grille.
brochure says xm? woohoo but in what form? i'm assuming integrated and the question on that and these othe new options is can they be added to the 06 model? I should prob hold off any more mods/upgrades to my 06 for now then until we find out.
none of the other new aditions/options have me that excited but I wonder what the cargo cover will look like and how it will work. dark grey is a good color addition and looks good on the touareg so should on the b9.
if the xm and the cargo cover aren't able to be added to the 06 I may have to sell/trade in mine for the new but then would also consider other makes/models. when does the consumer reports annual car issue come out? march?
That grille looks perfect. I bet if it can come out that way we wouldn't have seen half as much controversy.

Thanks.
I've heard of cases (don't laugh) where people actually put an entire headlight assembly in an warm oven to melt the glues so they can take them apart, usually to remove the yellow reflectors and go with the Altezza look (clear/white with a yellow bulb).
I don't recommend that.

try contacting MSPT and ask how they did it on the black B9 picutred on their site and seen at auto show.
