Which dealers are these in MD???? :confuse: Truly interested cause we want to make a decision today of whether to lease/buy or not before the special runs out. Thanks!
rob: I bet the RX400H isn't significantly quicker than the Tribeca. I bet 0-60 are within a few tenths.
dbarnes: ask yourself if you really, truly, need off road capability. There are fewer and fewer places where you can go nowadays. They've paved the earth.
On pavement, I think you'll prefer the more car-like Tribeca over the JGC or 4Runner. If you tow heavy loads or really do own a camp ground membership that required 4Lo, then pick between the other two.
I gotta go drive one of these bad boys. But I'll be out of town this weekend, and I don't think Subaru had a dealer near Ocean City, MD.
Anybody know of a dealer in NJ that has one to look at? Preferably Northern NJ. With kid #2 about to arrive, am deciding between the Tribeca and Legacy GT wagon, but won't preorder w/o seeing/driving it.
Also, I've had ridiculously bad service experiences w/first Bell Subaru, where I bought my Forester. In trying to replace the Yoko Geolander tires, twice they put other tires on. This among other mindboggling screwups. Service at Richard Lucas not much better -- they keep forgetting to order replacement parts.
SO, and NJ dealer recommendations? Again, preferably Northern NJ. Anyone dealt w/Lynne's or Flemington, for example?
rob: I bet the RX400H isn't significantly quicker than the Tribeca. I bet 0-60 are within a few tenths.
Probably not. But don't forget that you get a lot more with the Lexus in terms of service/treatment, snob appeal, and green appeal. Besides Lexus shoppers aren't Subaru shoppers - no matter what Subaru thinks.
Besides the RX330 gets 18/24 - no big improvement with the hybrid. When Subaru introduces one as well, I predict it'll be for performance reasons - not economy.
Generally they are a little quicker, but not always. Motor Trend's hybrid Accord was actually 2/10ths slower, though you can probably blame sample variance. Or the gas model they had was a wringer. :surprise:
RX400H will be heavy, so overall a Tribeca will perform better.
Heck, Lexii are so softly sprung that I'm sure it does.
"Which dealers are these in MD???? Truly interested cause we want to make a decision today of whether to lease/buy or not before the special runs out. Thanks"
Fitgerald in Gaithersburg unloaded a couple and just call around. One in Virgina and one in Annapolis.
Am I the only one dissapointed that most of the pre-orders are being delivered after many dealers are getting stock not pre-ordered models? I thought the pre-orders were to be delivered first, no?
Nah - pre orders are guaranteed business that will allow Subaru to issue a press release saying they sold X cars the first week. It also generates buzz and a sense of urgency: "They're offering pre orders, they must expect this to be a hot seller".
The RX400h has been tested by Car and Driver at 6.9 seconds to 60. I highly doubt that the Tribeca, given its lowish torque rating, is going to manage better than 8 flat, and I think even that is a bit optimistic. Also, with respect to pricing, juice, comparing apples to apples as best possible, the RX400h is about 50k, the Tribeca 40, so thats 10 grand difference (not 18, and theres a lot on the RX that isnt on the Subie).
robr- the EPA ratings for the RX330 AWD and RX400h are 18/24 and 31/27. So its not a big difference on the highway, but its significant around town. Edmunds.com OVERALL MPG jumped by 6. Thats a big improvement. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Flemington Subaru is the best dealership experience (including service) this side of owning a Lexus. It's not Northern New Jersey, but I would venture that its the best place to buy and service a Subaru in this fine state
Am I the only one dissapointed that most of the pre-orders are being delivered after many dealers are getting stock not pre-ordered models? I thought the pre-orders were to be delivered first, no?
What's occuring is that though pre-orders are part of the allocation with some standard stock ones. SOA is sending some stock (non-ordered) ones as a selling point for people to test drive and 'eventually' buy one. I'm sure these stock ones were already being made before taking pre-orders. It stinks but at least you're safe to know that your order is being specially made
Am I the only one who got this email? SOA will be carrying some events and classes in NYC on May 22 and June 4, like Rock Climbing, Camping, GPS and some other stuff. I deleted the email so I don't remember it all.
:confuse: Maybe he has tons less to gain by leasing instead of selling? Today seems to be the end of the lease deal as well as the pre-order deal and i'm having a hard time getting the numbers i thought would be there. The offer through subie: 319/mos on base 5 pass. 1999 down, etc, etc. Now, I understand with wanting a loaded 7 pass that will change, but one dealer told hubby it would be prolly $20 per 1000 in options mark up monthly. The e-mail responses from the dealer I'm talking to:
"The $319 is on a base with MSRP of $31320 with $1999 down, $595 aquisition plus tax & tags which is around $4700, residual 65% for 12k yr.
John said you wanted a loaded out 7pass MSRP is $39500. 36 month residual for 12k yr is 64%."
And then after i brought up the $20 per thousand in option markup:
"Actually on the lease the factor is around $25 per $1000 on 48mths. The MSRP difference on the $319 payment on a base 5pass compared to what you want (7pass loaded) is $8180. I figured your payment based on $2000 down not $4700 like the ad. Based on that your payment should be where I told you. $2700 at $25 per 1000 or 2.7 x 25 = $67.50, $540 - $67.50 = $472."
I hope it is ok to post this info cause i'm just getting a bit confused here! Any thoughts guys (and doll or 2) Big Thanks

Don't see any listed on their site yet though. Subaru Distributors Corp. (NY/NJ) are usually about the last to receive new models.
6.9s, and the only estimate we have for the Tribeca is 7.5s. Same ball park, like I said. :P
A loaded Tribeca is $38k, and will sell for $36k street price. The RX400H will sell for AT LEAST full MSRP for the foreseeable future. The real difference is actually greater, probably $20 grand. Seriously. If you're already on the wait list.
31 city is in an antiquated EPA cycle with the A/C off. You simply will not match that in the real world. Prius is rated for 60/51 and the real-world mileage average is 48mpg, check it out:
regarding hype, EPA antiquation, etc.... thats why I quoted what Edmunds.com found in their testing, and it was a whopping 6 MPG greater for the RX400h, which is about a second faster to 60 than the RX330. THAT is not hype, that is impressive, even through the Subaru-biased goggles which many of us wear.
Curious- where was an estimate of 7.5 seconds for the Tribeca? I think the Tribeca will be swift, but 7.5 seems optimistic. (219 foot pounds of twist?)
There is no way the Tribeca can do 7.5 0-60. C&D's Outback XT automatic with much more torque only managed 7.1 sec. The Tribeca is a lot less powerful and is 500+ lbs heavier than the Outback. I would think the best it can do is maybe 9 - 9.5 sec 0-60. Waiting for C&D to do a real test.
I still think the Tribeca will be a flop. Overpriced, overweight, under-sized, not enough features to compete with the premium brands, not enough reputation to compete with the Toyotas, Hondas, and Nissans of the world.
If Subaru wanted to really compete with the premium brands, they would at least copy-cat a premium crossover in terms of features offered, increase the warranty coverage, and then sell it for less, but that's not the case.
To take a bite out of Highlander-empire, more practical size and more conservative look would do the Tribeca wonders, but that's not the case either.
It's like the Tribeca is trying to be everything to everyone, and achieves neither.
But, we'll wait and see how the real world sales turn out.
The nice folks over at autoblog.com posted a brief paragraph and a link to this forum for their readers. They're asking for first impressions from those who've received their B9 Tribecas. So for those who have, go post!
Does anyone know if these have started to arrive in Washington State yet? Just curious if there are only 5-seaters shipping now or if 7-seaters have started to show up. :confuse:
Yes, test drove one tonight and the parking brake is a foot parking brake. Salesman said this is indeed the first for Subaru.
Also, ordered my B9 tonight - barely got in on the preorder deal!! I ordered the 7-passenger, silver w/ grey, navigation and got the tow package with the preorder deal. Should be in between 4 and 6 weeks. Dayton/Cincinnati area here.
Thanks for sharing your albumn. I love the look of the front, I really don't like the back as it looks too minivanish. The third row looks useless, and the interior is gorgeous none the less. Another thing that got me worried is the way the center console intrudes somewhat near the driver's right leg. This was an issue when I had my Audi allroad and that is why I sold it. I'll still test drive one anyway just to see if I like it. I really wish the back had some continuity to the front. That front really looks different from anything else on the road.
On the RH forum most people are averaging 26 or so. There is no way the Tribeca will get those numbers. I predict overall avg of 18 or 19. Heck, my WRX only averaged 22 and that was highway!! You can't even compare the two as their prices are over a 15k difference. I think the Lexus is probably a little quieter and the interior materials are probably a little superior. I could live with the Tribeca interior and less torque for 15k!
Just got back from our first test drive. Our preorder will not be here until sometime June, but this first drive was great!
Just wanted to note that while my husband was driving, I sat in the second row for the trip back to the dealership. The second row was of course slid all the way back with absolutely no room in the third row for passengers, which is how we will have it most of the time, and I had plenty of room. When I reclined the seat back it was even more comfortable.
I do not agree with the amount of leg room in the second row seats. While true you really could not get three adults back there I think two is fine keeping in mind that you can slide the seat in the second row back. With it all the way back, a friend that is 6' 2" had plenty of leg room, although this will all depend on the driver seat position as well. For me, there was a lot of leg room back there as I am 5' 8"
I currently drive a Ford Excursion and felt the leg room in the second row was equal to that of the Excursion, although I am sure the numbers would actually not agree with that.
I have looked at a lot of the SUV's it is supposed to compete with and from what I have seen and heard it is comparable to those. I guess it really depends to what you are used to or looking for.
Just curious if this was a fully loaded 7-seat model? I am awaiting mine here in the Seattle area and wondering if those are being shipped yet. I have only seen some 5-seaters. :confuse:
Peninsula Subaru has a Titanium 7-passenger Ltd. with DVD and Nav., Tacoma Subaru has 2 blue, 2 Sea Foam Green, a White 5 Pass and a Titanium 7-pass Ltd. with Nav., Looks like Chaplains in Bellevue has their allotment as well.
Hmmmm......hopefully my Titanium 7-passenger with DVD and Nav will be into Carter soon. I was told between the 20th and 30th of this month so we will see.
I guess I am like a child waiting for Christmas is all...
Subaru of New England called our dealer with the VIN on the car we orderd ! Glad they are following up and are back from the National Subaru conference. Did anyone hear of any special news out of the conference which would help us ?
I finally had the opportunity to test drive the B9 yesterday. I found that it had plenty of power, but I am a little concerned with the shift pattern. It seemed to shift slow from second to third and the RPM's were revved up. Has anyone else had the same result or was I in a defective model?

Thanks - i wasn't able to find the fuel economy ratings for the RX400h. Now 31 city is an impressive number.
Annapolis does not have any yet....I think i'll check a few others yet.

That's a pretty good real-world sample. The RX says 27mpg average (way below EPA combined) but the sample is not big enough yet to mean a whole lot.
Don't get me wrong, I like hybrids, just don't fall for all the hype.
And it is hype.

If recommended and you use regular unleaded will you see a loss of power? If so, is it a huge loss of power or are we talking 10-20 horses?

i can say that there's not a lot of room for adults back there
but family with kids and dog?
this car will sell.
heck, they've presold what? 600 of them?
