I thought of this when I saw the Tribeca. I flipped it down and looked through the rearview mirror. You are able to see a tiny bit of the bottom of the DVD but it did not obstruct my view. I was able to adjust the rearview mirror to compensate.

Here is a question. What color is the grey interior? Different sites are showing different shades - some say a light grey, and some say darker almost black. The Dealership had a sample swatch that was a very dark grey. The darker would be my preference.

Has anyone seen one with the grey interior that can confirm the shade?

It's a dark charcoal gray, almost black, and very attractive.

Thank you! Then it does match the dealership swatch. Can't wait for my preorder to arrive!

Well... Natalie Cox delivered as promised. Wireless headsets can be ordered at any time. The part number for the accessory Headphone Assembly is 86247XA00A, and MSRP is set at $69.95 each. Can I get an "Amen" for Subaru customer service?!?!?

Also, my dealer called me today and said my B9 Tribeca arrives in Boston on Monday or Tuesday. In Boston, final accessories are installed per customer request (I am having the towing package added, despite choosing the XM satellite radio as my gift), then it will be shipped to my dealer here in Upstate New York. He thinks I should have it by next Friday :D

I figured those looking for info on the lease pricing would be interested: $319 w/ $2k down on the 5 passenger. Did not see any other information on the other trims.

Super grdh20 ! How long ago did you order and what part of the country are you in ?
Heard from a CT dealer that they ship from IN by train.
Put the order in yesterday and can't wait till it comes in.

Well, there goes your "entertainment purposes". ;) I'm glad they (she) came through.

Wow, next Friday huh? That's great. I'll be waiting another 2 weeks (minimum) for ours. But supposely no later than 1st week of June.

I hope so, cause we're moving to Atlanta first week of June.

Juice, the certificate I had was for a MBNA program that has expired. The certificate clearly states that I could only redeem it for a new or used Subaru. My prior certificates I could use for service, which we did for our Imprezza, but MBNA changed to program to only redeem it for a new or used vechicle.

Randy, can you please provide me the number for Natelie Cox at SOA as I would like to see if should could assist me in validating my certificates.

    Thanks
  • papahawkpapahawk Member Posts: 24
Natalie Cox responded to my e-mail inquiry regarding the headphones, and we have only communicated via e-mail. Her address is ncox@SUBARU.com

I hope she can help you, as well.

another Subie dealer to see if Tribeca brochures were available; they're not. :(

While there the sales person showed me a "sales aid" in which Tribeca primary competitors (and features) were listed. They are:

    • Pilot EX; not the LX, but EX model.

    • Murano SL; again, that trim level only.

    • Touareg V6.

    • Volvo XC90 2.5T AWD

Interesting in that the BMW 3.0 X5 was not listed, as this was often mentioned as the vehicle that the Tribeca was benchmarked against during its development. Nor was was the Acura MDX listed, which was a surprise too.

  • papahawkpapahawk Member Posts: 24
I have seen the same "sales aid", and I was surprised, as well. I took comfort, however, in the ordering guide. Subaru "took shots" at everyone in that thing! Lexus 330, BMW X5, Acura MDX, and Volvo XC90. I think the take-home-message from SOA, when you look across all the publication and guides is, "We are not backing down from anyone in this segment." This is justified in my opinion because the B9 Tribeca is such a worthy competitor.... If it is not simply better than a competitor in this class, it is more aggressively priced! Or both! I anxiously await the inevitable head-to-head-to head from Motor Trend or Automobile. The B9 will be in the mix, simply because it's new, but it will be interesting to see who and how many they identify as the competition.

I am considering placing a preorder for the B9 this week and was wondering if I need to negotiate a price before preordering and if so what price are dealers giving for preorders.

I am looking at the 7-passenger w/Nav in Silver or Mahogany with grey interior. Is there a certain percent or price over Edmunds invoice price I should shoot for? Edmunds invoice for the 7-pass w/nav and destination charge is $33,750, what would be a good price for a preorder?

    Thanks!
  • bigelmbigelm Member Posts: 995
Always negotiate price, it's already out there.
You can find dealers that are offering close to invoice, if not invoice...
  • newsubunewsubu Member Posts: 39
During a recent extensive price search I found almost all of the 16 dealers I queried holding at invoice for preorders. There are chinks in the chain, however.

I kept at it for a few days, preordered at a fair price, and then actually had one dealer come back below invoice. I stuck with the original deal, for several reasons including proximity and the guys I bought from.

These dealers know they've got a great product here, and are sticking to value discussions primarily, but find one willing to talk price and hang in there.

I, too, thought the Mohogany w/ grey leather was a good combo...it's on it's way!
  • grdh20grdh20 Member Posts: 46
I ordered pretty early on. My dealer (Wash. DC area) says that my car should be delivered by the end of this week. Dealer was Stolhman in Northern Virginia. $500 above invoice.

HA! I thought I was the only one here who ordered that color combo ;)

Being a new model, I'm thinking the extended warranty is a necessity no?...Especially if your getting the DVD or NAV.
If so, does anyone know of an online place for a discounted policy like the Honda's or Chyrsler's, or is the price pretty much set. I've searched the forums and can't really find a discussion about the Subaru warranty prices. No date yet on my 5 pass LTD, but I haven't bugged him lately.
  • bigelmbigelm Member Posts: 995
Though it's a new vehicle, I'm going to wait until close to warranty expiration to buy an extended warranty. I'll be monitoring how the B9 behaves and chk on recalls and such.
I'm confident this vehicle (although new), will be pretty reliable. If there's anything Subaru is, is reliable.
To me, it just doesn't make sense to buy an extended warranty now. Chances are, with the hype of a new model, prices will be high or the same everywhere. When the hype calms, I'm sure competition will be easier to find.

Is anyone so distraught over the tires that they are asking the dealer to switch them out upon delivery? If I could convince myself of a truly better alternative for New England driving conditions I would toss the Goodyears immediately. I have slid around on enough Goodyear rubber in the past to know that these tires are going to perform horribly. The problem is that the choices are limited in the 255/55 HR18 size, and there is no true "ALL seasons player". The more research I do, the grumpier I get!

    Any recommendations? :confuse:

    did u check tirerack.com ?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
$70 a pop retail, but wholesalers will have them for probably around $50. That means a coupon for $100 Subaru Bucks should net you a pair of those bad boys, for 4 total. :shades:

urmez: Ok, you had coupons under the old program, I remember now. They changed over when that one finished and now you can use them for service or accessories as well, even though we earn at a lower rate, now 3%, I think it used to be 5%.

I'd rather have the flexibility, personally.

Keep your eyes out for Tribeca spottings, especially ones available for test drives. I'm willing to travel a bit. :)

Yes. Tire Rack is a great resource. I checked it, and other sites thouroughly, and that is how I arrived at the conclusion that the selection is meager, and there is no true all season tire. Tire reviews from customers are very helpful, and I am just wondering if anyone connected with this forum believes in a tire enough to switch out the Eagle LS2s straightaway.

I got one of the last creative financing deals from my credit union. They ended the program last month right after I was pre-approved. My B9 better be here in less than 90 days or I'm shot. It's similar to the GM Smart buy program...anyway the point is these are the residual prices that they guarantied me for the Tribeca at the end of what ever term I finally select. Anyone else get similar quotes for a lease or other financing program? I have no way of knowing if these are good or not

    Dan

    MSRP $32,900

    60mo. $13,650
    48mo. $16,575
    36mo. $19,825
    24mo. $21,450

Stop it!!! Stop it, I say!!!! You are fanning the flames of insanity!!! Can't you just let us wait for our beloved Subarus in peace?!?!? From now on, if you see one, keep the sighting buried deep down inside of you where it belongs!! Oh, the humanity!!

No power seat memory function. IMO, a major omission if Subaru wants to play in the league that they think the Tribeco belongs in.

Even though the Tribeca appears to be priced aggressively (ie. low), I think the Murano still has it beat in terms of value. IMO, of course.

On the spec page, they mentioned leather-covered steering wheel, shifter and parking brake. I don't see no hand-operated parking in any of the photos. I'm sure they won't cover the pedal of a foot-operated parking brake with leather! Is the parking brake cleverly hidden somewhere?

Yes, I think the omission of memory seats, adjustable peddles, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, auto window up/down windows both sides, XM Radio and OnStar are a major mistake for the consumer that Subaru is wanting to come over to them instead of Acura, BMW, Lexus, Infiniti, Volvo, Honda, Nissan and etc. Their major coup is the price point and their quality and safety record. That having been said my wife had to have one now instead of waiting for these options to be added later, so we are awaiting our new family member in a few weeks. I'll probably be sick if these are standard equipment next year,:cry:

I drove a B9 yesterday at the dealer in Santa Monica. it's an appealing vehicle, but it's pretty sluggish off the block. it's not until the revs get up pretty good that it has any umph, presumably because of relatively low torque. Feels almost like a turbo revving up. The folks at Subaru in Santa Monica are really nice, low key.
  • newsubunewsubu Member Posts: 39
...omission of memory seats, adjustable peddles, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, auto window up/down windows both sides, XM Radio and OnStar...

These are good observations, and are certainly worthwhile for some potential buyers of the B9 & high-ends to consider.

I say...since I've already driven, ordered one and have looked at all competitors mentioned...

sidown and git comfortable, which is quite possible without all the gadgets, appreciate the breeze without worring if you had to hold the button for 1 second or three, crank your favorite CDs on the 6 disc changer, and use your cell without all the Onstar charges.

You're right in saying purchases will be based on reliability, safety and price. Those are the primary reasons I ordered one. And it's just a cool car, too.

ms121269, Congrats on your incoming. I'll be in the same boat soon enough!

During a recent extensive price search I found almost all of the 16 dealers I queried holding at invoice for preorders.

i just realized in this post from Sunday I meant to say "almost all of the 16 dealer are holding at MSRP for preorders." I found only 4 or 5 willing to discount from MSRP, and only two near invoice.

There is a national dealer meeting this weekend, where they will certainly compare sales and come back with a plan for the roll-out. Maybe they will be steadfast on MSRP, or more resonable based on preorders.

I'd love to know what SOA is offering for finance rates on the B9: this has yet to be determined as far as I know.

    What's a peddle? I presume it is a cross between a paddle and a pedal? I'm Intrigued; what's its function? :)
  • sweet_subiesweet_subie Member Posts: 1,394
They couldn;t afford to go over 40k, that's why they had to leave these options i bet. With 2 kids, i don;t care for these options as they get more & more complicated.

If we notice, no press is saying B9 is overpriced or expensive, this is what they wanted. If i can get fully loaded tribeca for 3k less MSRP at 35k, i will be very happy.
  • sweet_subiesweet_subie Member Posts: 1,394

why does the public think they are entitled to discounts on new year model vehicles. Pony up the dough, quit kidding around and bust out the check book. There is a difference between getting a great deal and getting ripped off.
  • saustinsaustin Member Posts: 68
    Sweet,
New Englanders are at a distinct disadvantage due to distribution and the additonal $200 dealers pay for their vehicles. Either a road trip is in order for you or you might try http://www.premiersubaru.com in CT and check their discounting (about 800+ over invoice).
Personally contacted 5 dealerships in CT and only one wanted to negotiate.
Perhaps they know about some outrageously good reviews coming out that we have not seen yet ?!?
Ordered our first through Premier but will order the second after 6 months when the mountain biking membership kicks in and Subaru offers the dealer cost program to the club.

    Steve.

Yes, and then there's the little thing called Bluetooth . .
  • teamjdteamjd Member Posts: 40
Yes, but with all the dealers sticking together and possibly chastising the rouge dealer who broke ranks, anyone who did order one at invoice should be reluctant to say where until they took delivery. I still have no confidence in that pre-order form until I get a VIN# and sign the contract. Yea, I'll pre-order you a B9 at invoice...but that pre-order that just came in belongs to the guy that just paid MSRP. It had 33 PSI in the tires...yours comes with 32 PSI. Should be coming soon though...VIN# ?...I'll call you when (I run out of MSRP customers). Just my paranoid 2 cents. Those kind of horrors are rare I'm sure, but I have that kind of luck. Just so you don't think I'm too cynical, that last comment was the line from the local Subie dealer when I tried to get him to match the invoice offer to save the deal. He's still trying to convince me that I'll never see the car at that price. So, just to be safe, order one from him at $500 off MSRP as a back up deal. I'm zipped until I get the keys.

The good news is the dealer called me to say my pre sold is coming exactly as requested about 2 weeks and got the following update. Do I want to add these accessories:
    1. Roof Rack Cross bars $210
    2. Rear Bumper Protector $65
    3. Cargo Area tray $75

    Let him know right away.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Yeah stop teasing us! LOL

    Feature nit-pick:

memory seats - I prefer manual seats so I don't care for it
adjustable pedals - my wife is tall so this would be a waste for me
tilt/telescope wheel - it does tilt, it only does not telescope
auto window up/down - get FasToll and you won't need it any more!
XM radio - get the free portable one by pre-ordering
OnStar - no thanks, do you realize how low the renewal rates are?
Bluetooth - hype. I have a BlackBerry 7100T with a bluetooth headset and only used it the day I got it

So give me auto down for the driver's window for drive-thru windows but that's about it for my wish list. Beyond that "keep the price down" would take priority over anything else on that list.

I don't get how the Murano is a better value, though. Add heated leather, DVD, and Nav, to an AWD SE and the MSRP jumps to $41 grand, about $3 grand more than a Tribeca and you give up the 3rd row seat entirely! :surprise:

Freestyle offers lower prices, but I'd wait until the bigger Duratec engine arrives because everyone complains about the current one. Plus it's just dull.

Let me add my 0.02 here... I say this, if you deal with a dealer who's word means crap because they rather make a couple of extra dollars than keeping their word or reputation, then you're doing business with the wrong dealer.

Maybe it's just me, but if I know I can get a vehicle at invoice or close to it, then I'll find the dealer that is willing to do business. I'm sure they'll find other 'suckers' to sell the B9 at MSRP (no offense to anyone here). I think with the exception of the NE with the monopoly they have, I find it pathetic that dealers would do whatever it takes to jeoperdize a future business relationship for a one shot deal. How many dealers will get noticed for selling MSRP vehicles vs. those who are willing to negotiate.

I could have gotten the B9 at invoice but I decided to do business with a dealer whom I've done business with for a long time, so to me $300 over invoice is nothing. They're giving me a good deal on my wife's OB wagon lease, so it's a no brainer.

My dealer knows that their word means everything to me. And I also know they're not going to give me the shaft to sell the car MSRP or close to it.

Keep shopping... you don't have to be the first one out there with the B9. Worse case scenario, test drive one than call dealers, even out of state dealers to get a better deal and either pick it up or have them transport it to you.

    Case closed!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Well put, bigelm. I think we too often put all the emphasis on the final price paid, without accounting for the treatment by the dealer, the wait, little extras, and things like service down the road.

Who is the dealer more likely to help if you need to make a warranty claim at 36,001 miles, the guy who fought to save a couple of bucks, or bigelm, who allowed the dealer a reasonable profit and has become a loyal repeat customer?

$300 sonds like a lot but we're talking about less than 1% of the total transaction.

who is this dealer ? it sounds good
  • teamjdteamjd Member Posts: 40
I know what you mean bigelm, I'm sure that the dealership I'm buying from is a great place, and they'll take good care of me. I have just seen so many examples of poor sales practice that that it detracts from the overall pleasure of spending a fortune for you just reward. I can't say that I'm a repeat buyer. This is my first new car in 15 years. The process has been...enlightening. I went to one big Long Island Toyota dealer before I decided on the B9 that made me feel so uncomfortable that I keep feeling for my wallet on the way out the door. On the other hand, at the Lexus dealership they gave me the keys and said see ya later...just don't run it empty before you bring it back.
Even $500 over invoice would have been fine. Make a fair deal and move on. I didn't even have to negotiate. I e-mailed a bunch of dealers "would you sell me the B9 at invoice". I took the first yes. When I finally get to look him in the eye and press the flesh, I'll be sure to say thank you. If a dealer held the line on MSRP as his practice that's fine with me, but when "dealers" get together and decide to hold the line...well three words come to mind...price fixing, illegal. That's just my cynical take on what happens at those dealer conventions.
  • teamjdteamjd Member Posts: 40
OH!...OH!...OH!...They just called. May 26th... Whew!!! Who!!!
  • newsubunewsubu Member Posts: 39
I ordered at a fair price from a reputable dealer I feel I can trust, then was offered 400 under invoice for the same configuration a few days later. Felt the 2nd dealer's offer was too good to be true, but I met with them and instinct told me to walk. They just wanted to get their hands on another B9, IMO, and could only do it with my bonafide preorder, if I understand their protocol correctly.

After understanding the potential for a switcheroo when another buyer offers MSRP, I stuck with the original deal, and feel good about it.
  • once_for_allonce_for_all Member Posts: 1,640
    you are a wise man.

I waited 4 months for an MPV that never showed up.

Lo and behold, when I went in to cancel my order I not only got the car right away, but it had $1500 more options.

IMO, I think the business of "ordering" gives a dealer a lot of time to profiteer from other buyers walking in the door. If they can give your car to someone else and still have an order in hand, they come out ahead every day.

My policy is if I can't see it and drive it, I don't buy it.

That's why they are called options if you don't want it don't choose it. Like on theOdy van there are base ones for about $25K or so or you can get it all for over $39K, the consumers choice. Some people want those others may not but I like to have those chooses. Some wanted 5 seats but others wanted 7 so we get what we want. Also, about OnStar I or my wife or one of friends using our car have had to use their unlock feature over 5 times, if I called a locksmith and had to wait an hour or so I think for me that will pay for it. Also, we have poor cell reception in some of the area we travel so OnStar let us communicate with great reception and plus the safety factor.

I want to take this opportunity to commend Natalie Cox at SOA for her prompt customer service that she provided our family. As with Randy's request, she got back to mine (extension of the redemtion date of our Subaru dollars) within a day of my initial e-mail.

It is great to see that customer service is still one of Subaru's main values.
