I have had mine back to the dealer twice. System has been flushed each time and the blades replaced the second time. It is still unresolved. I get the same vertical lines, they just aren't as pronounced. The new Honda wiper inserts don't work as well as the old. This does not say much for the dealer service department and I don't believe this is something I should have to fix myself. Lemon law may be an option.
Just picked up my new 2001 Acura TL from the dealership. On the way home I heard a whining noise the increases in pitch and volumn as the car accelerates. The sound does not appear to come from the transmission because as the car shifts throught acceleration the whining is uninterrupted and the pitch does not lower. Has anyone have any idea what this can be?
I do not have any problems with HONDA on glasses. I just wanted to verify whether I have a different type of glass then everyone else has so kind of asked. thanks for the response.
I have a little rattle/squeak that sounds like it is coming from my console area, but I can't find it. Most people say that they can't hear it, but it drives me crazy. Has anyone else had this trouble? If so, have you found the source? I mainly hear it, when someone is sitting in the passenger seat, but that could be because the stereo is so loud when someone isn't in that seat.
I purchased a TL in July 2000 and noticed the streaking of the windshield. I returned the car to the dealer here in Memphis and they replaced the wiper blades. Wooosh.....no more problem. No more streaking!
Several times I had the blades changed and the fluid flushed. The dealer told me to bring it back again. You think the problem is resolved but it slowly comes back again. Lets try it agian.
I just has my Acura TL for 3 weeks and notice on the back "read windshield" there is a plastic cover around it has lots of razor cut marks on it and went to the Dealer they said to replace that they need to take out the rear windshield. Does anyone know if it's save to do it? I afraid it will leak later on.
My 2000 TL appears to have the windshield streaking problem being discussed in this topic. After cleaning it off by rubbing hard with paper towels and Windex I found that one of the streaks on the drivers side about 12 inches long and curving along the arc of the wiper could not be removed and appears to be a scratch. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? It is hard for me to believe that some dirt or debris could have gotten caught between the wiper and the windshield and dragged across the glass with enough force to scratch the glass, particularly with the window wet. Is this glass particularly soft? Do you think Acura would replace the windshield due to a wiper caused scratch? Any ideas?
I have a 2000 3.2TL which makes a noise as if some screw is loose or something. When I drive, I feel the sound is from the passenger side while if I am at the passenger side of front row, it seems like the sound is from the driver's side. Does anybody know anything about this issue and if so what is the remedy
Arunalayam. I had a problem where my wife said the noise was from the left and I said it was from the right. It wound up being the sun glasses making noise in the holder above by the inside lites in between us. See if that is it.Mark
I've had a 2000TL since Feb and have also had similar windshield problems. 1st they put new blades on. Didn't correct. Next, new blades plus change washer fluid resivour and clean glass with mild abrasive. That was about a month ago and since have had very little rain to try. I do now seem to have some streaking with or without washer fluid. Vertical lines at ends of stroke are very faint. Don't think fair testing has been done. I'm disappointed in contending with this problem due to the Honda/Acura reputation. Also, local dealer doesn't seem too be concerned about it. Time will tell. Clicker2
Add my 2000 3.2TL to the windshield problems of streaking & a sort of film on glass. Unit was built in April-00. The wipers leave a line at end of travel & I also have a scratch on the passengers side- soft glass? I have tried the Bon- Ami. This did not help ! Rest of car is A1. Will be taking car into dealer before end of year for check. Will keep posting on this problem. Thanks to previous posters on this.
I had a film on the windshield on my '00. It was most noticeable in the rain at night. I flushed the resevoir twice by disconnecting the tubing and pumping it out. I cleaned the glass with Turtlewax Bug & Tar remover followed by Windex. I cleaned the wiper blades with the towelette pads you get with a new set of blades (surplus from another vehicle). The film has not reappeared. Otherwise the car continues to be perfect after 12,000 miles (knock on plood).
I have a 99 TL, and don't seem to have this problem. But here is something that might help: try cleaning the wiper blades with a cloth or even paper towel soaked in rubbing alcochol....it gets all the dirt, grime and road grease off them which is what might be causing these streaks. Hope it helps
I recently replace the steering rack on my 97 Avalon. I had a difficult time find the rack, when I finally located one I asked if the scarcity was due to the part seldom failing. He said he couldn't keep them in stock due to the Avalon ( and one model of truck ) have a high number of failures. When I asked the service manager at Toyota about this he just smiled. Has anyone elese experienced this problem or am I receiving bad info.
I'm wondering if you meant to make your post in this topic: Toyota Avalon (Topic #1858). That is where we are discussing Avalon issues in this conference.

I bought my 2000TL back in April and I too hear squeeking sound on, I belive on driver side. Sounds like springs are making these noise. Is there anyone have the same problem and taken to dealer??
Well it's been over 3months since they changed the blades and fluid. The vertical lines are starting to come back again. I put in different washer fluid but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I still think that it could be from the blades hitting the windshield with too much pressure. That was what a mechanic told me. Any other ideas, let me know.
Had the wiper blades replaced by the dealer a week ago. Much improved but passenger side wiper still leaves a line at end of travel. Perhaps as previously mentioned the force applied to the blade by the wiper assembly is too great. Will live with this until spring when it will be more comfortable to examine & work on this. On the AL do we have graphite or teflon blades as standard? If not for this windshield problem I would not have any other fault with this car. Am I fortunate?
My 2000 has a squeek. It sounds like it comes from the front passenger seat. It is most pronounced when the car goes over bumps. The service manager tells me that it is coming from the sunroof--they grease it each time I take it in for service.
I just noticed a crack in the leather on the seat cushion on the front passenger seat. Anyone have a similar problem?
also in my 2000. Seems to come from right in the crack between the center console and the driver seat. Sort of a low pitched squeek. Not enough to drive me nuts, but I will have them look at it next oil change. Has anyone else found the problem?
I have noticed a similar squeak coming from the area between the driver's seat and the console. It seems to be the seat belt anchor. I have not checked other areas on this board (dealing with problems other than windshield problems).
I got my 2001 TL about 2 months ago and I started to hear this annoying squeaking noise about 2 weeks after I took the car off the lot. It doesn't happen the time but I finally was able to pin point the source - the seat belt buckle! Once it starts squeaking after driving for a while, just un-do the buckle and re-attach it to see if it goes always. It works everytime for me, but after a while, it starts squeaking again. I hear squeaks on both sides; drive and passanger's. I'm going to take into the dealer this weekend to have them looked at... I also drive a Lexus ES300 (1992) and its belt buckle attach very tight and there's no room for any wiggling, unlike the Acura TL's, where the buckle is very loose.
Well I have had my 2000 Tl for 7 months now. The blades must have been changed 5 times. Now I also notice 5 (6-8 inch) scrathces on the passenger side and small scrathces on my side. The dealer wants to examine the scratches. It isn't bad enough to change the winshied yet but I want to know is it going to get worse, Also, the vertical lines are starting again. They said they get the blades from a cretain vendor. I think it's time to change. My wife just got a 2001 3.2CL and she also is noticing the vertical lines from the blades. One of the salesman said to treat the windshield with rain-ex. We'll see.
I have owned 2 Honda Accords, a 1990 and 1999 and both had the windshield wiper problems you are talking about here. Otherwise, the cars were near perfect.
The squeak that sounds like springs in the seat or near the console is the seat belt anchor. The dealer put lubricant on it, and I haven't had a problem since. I do notice that I now have a rattle which seems to come from the sun glass holder (which is empty). Any suggestions?
I too have had this problem with the windshield as well and it is very aggravating. I work for a global parts supplier to the automotive industry and therefore have personal experience with all the changes happening in certain parts which must be ocurring in virtually all parts. The number one driving force is cost reduction (yes even at Honda/Acura) and the second is to gain any kind of competitive advantage in terms of features. There is a lot of engineering effort in the area of glass manufacturing and processing. I don't know the details but all I can say is that this problem is very real and I would encourage all to make SURE to communicate this to your dealer. I just took my TL in to the dealer to have the windshield replaced due to a crack. The dealer said it was due to an impact but I think it was a stress crack as it started on the perimeter of the windshield. When I get my new glass, which I am assuming will not be the same as factory installed, I will report on how it performs.
The last time it rained, we could barely see out of the windshield--almost like there was a film of oil or something on the glass--and the wipers just seemed to make it worse. I've heard all sorts of causes--from wiper fluid residue, windex residue, road film, dirty wipers, etc. It was wierd though because even with the wipers on, the pattern of the film looked just like towel streaks from the time I cleaned the windshield. I even tried cleaning the wipers (and the windshield) with a cotton towel and rubbing alcohol.
The dealer replaced the wipers (pro bono) last night and when I tested the wipers (with washer fuild), the swipe area was perfectly clear. I'm wondering if there isn't some kind of lubricant used to protect the rubber of the wiper blades, that transfers to the window???????
Well I must have gone through atleast 5 -6 sets of wiper blades due to vertical lines at the end of the sweep. A month ago, my wife noticed three long scratches and now there are more. The new service manager at Acura said they were outsite scratches but the sales manager feels that they are in between the glass. I am contacting the area service manager as well as Acura. My 2000 Tl is only 9 months old. We need to get them to fix this problem once and for all. My wife just got a 2001 3.2CL 2 months ago. Her blades are starting to leave a vertical line also. Good luck everyone!!!
Well I needed to replace my windshield due to inside cracking. They also changed my wiper blades and fluid for the 6th time stating that the fluid was the problem for the vertical lines. Well the lines are back again. I am just buying a new set and I was told to use rained on my windshield. I am also calling Aura about the blades because these must be very poor quality to keep leaving those lines. Let's see what they say.
