When my Mazda MX6 LS is driven over 65 mph it
sometimes stalls. The engine cuts out suddenly, and
I must coast to the side of the road. After a few
minutes, the car can be started and driven with out
problems at speeds under 65 MPH. Could this
problem be an engine ignition switch, or a fuel
filter problem or something else? Is there a test
my mechanic can perform to diagnosis the problem?

'93 and '94 models are susceptible to this. What happens is that the module goes into thermal overload and shuts itself off; after a brief period to cool, it starts right up again as though nothing had happened. However, sooner or later it's not going to restart, so you may as well replace the module - which is a tricky business, since it's integrated with the distributor, and the dealership, like as not, will try to sell you (or your mechanic) a whole distributor.

will tell you more than you wanted to know about this particular problem.
