Suburban shifting rough

I was driving home in stop-and-go traffic today
when I felt someone hit me from behind. The force
was enough to hurt my back and I'll be
soretomorrow.
I looked in the rvm and there was nothing there.

Experimenting I determined that the problem wasthe
shifting in my 99
burb (2 wheel drive; 4 speed auto, 15 k miles)
was really harsh. 2 from 1 is really rough. 3from
2 is just rough.

Beginning from a stop is no problem in D-1.
Any ideas on what the problem is with my
suburban?

I'd like to have a clue when it goes tothe dealer
tomorrow.

Thanks!

Same truck, next day. Have not taken it to the dealer.

Checked trans fluid. Plenty of clear pink fluid.

Tried to reproduce problem but could not. (Will try to repro later with trans and engine warmed.)

Fear, uncertainty, and dread are creeping in. And as I anticipated, my back is sore from the rough shifting yesterday.

    Any clues appreaciated.

I've commented on this problem before. I had a similiar experience with a late model Suburban. The control module was faulty and had to be replaced. Isn't it under warranty?

    Thanks burdawg for your response.

Is it consistent that the problem would be intermittant or only occur when the truck is hot?

It is under warranty. My biggest fear is that the shop will not be able to repro the problem :-)

I searched the boards, web, NTSB, as best I could and yours is the first confirmation of the potential for such a problem.

In my case it was intermittent but mostly occured after warm up. It would shift hard on all upshifts, and downshifts were inconsistent. I have responded to others in this forum that had the same problem back to 97 models, not just Suburbans, Tahoes, etc, but pick ups also. Usually however it only occured after some mileage built up, say 65,000 or so.

have your tranmission updated. They download the updates to your truck. Had it done to my 2000 silverado and its great now. Shifting is smooth
