98 XC70 service light

When I start the car the "service" light comes on for about a minute then goes off. Any ideas why? Just got the car so we're working through the 'get to know you' period.

Thanks.

I just picked up a 1998 XC70 and the Service Light came on, then went out, then came on again the next day. Also the speedometer stopped working while driving. I shut the car off, started again, and it worked. Then it stopped working again yesterday. I'm going to take it in to my favorite shop, but first I wanted to know if there is anything I should know about these problems.
    Thanks!
