Ford Ranger Cruise Control

Well, the saga continues ... after having the engine replaced, the list of stuff that no longer works just gets longer - now the cruise control. Shop says it's the "cruise control amplifier" (and refuses to fix it) - can anybody tell me what that is?

P.S. Transmission checked out fine (at shop), so I replace the ECM - made no diff on the 'no overdrive' situation or non-working cruise control. Anybody know what could possibly be the problem here?

The right side cruise control buttons do not illuminate , how do I correct this problem?

Not sure about Ranger, but on many cars, the little bulbs are not servicable and you have to replace the entire switch.
