MY Catalytic Converters only last 1 year! They fail the Smog test each time the car is smogged here in California. Each time the Cakifornia DMV license renewal come sup the Cat fails! And it has to replaced every 2 years. This 1989 Toyota Corolla gets a new Cat every 2 years to pass the damned Smog test!

What a racket! The Catalytic Conveter makers are making a lousy produt, the California State government makes more money by charging for the smog test failures because the car has to be fixed and tested again. The shop makes more money because they sell and repair the car. The Cat maker sells a new Cat every 2 years for the same car!

Nothing can be done. Period. What could I do call 1-800-who-cares ! It's all a total fraud. And, btw,,, thanx to all those dumb arses who voted these crooks into office that put thes epolicies and laws into place. Maybe the damned government officials have stock in the platinum market? (Sarcasim).

Btw, California snuck in a new law that they charge anyone who needs an extension for their renewal pay $50.00. So, if you need to ask for an extension for your yearly or bicential car license renewal because it needs repairs to fix it so it wil pass the smog test and it will not be repaired and pass until after the renewal date, they charge $50.00. Thank you fools who voted these government people into office. All Crooks!

I hope your buying the Warner after market Cats. that cost only around $299.00, they 're just as good as the oem Toyota Cats.

How would I know what brand the Cat converter is? Does it say on the cat converter? The shop just puts them on, and it's not a Toyota Dealer, it's an auto repair shop that does all repairs and smog repair and test. I think they cost about $150 for these Cats. If I find out who makes these I will post that comapnies name all over the Frakking Internet and let them know they are selling fraudulent parts. Hmmm.. I wonder if they ar emad ein China? Mexico? or here int he USA?

A regular Joe who gets these Catalytic Converters replaced because of failure every 2 years should not have to flesh out bad brands from good. The companies who make bad cats should be ran out of business. Why would the state allow bad converters to be allowed to be manufactured and put on cars, if they are seeing this trend in Cats going bad after only 1 year of use.

There is no one at all with common sense to notify in our California legislature and the DMV clowns. They can see that if a car has the same repair each time for bad cats, there must be soemthing wrong. But of course, how dumb of me, they just see it as a way of collecting more money and screwing the consumer. They are forcing the car owners to purchase new cats each time, have mor einspections, pay more each time, and pay more fees for the worthless Ca. Smog program. What a total fraud!

The state doesn't mind what kind of Cat. you put on because all they care about is that you past the test. The reason cheaper Cats. are made is because if you needed a Toyota Cat. OEM it would cost you $1400.00 So there are quite a few cheaper Cats. out there that are cheap and could get you by the test. Just stay away from the cheaper Cats. that are made in China. If your only paying $150.00 then you ARE getting one of these cheap China made pieces of crap.

another reason your "cat" is not lasting long is how well your car is running. Do you keep it tuned up? A car that has it fuel/air mixture wrong will eat any "cat" alive in a short amount of time. The last thing is Obama wants us all to love each other so maybe you should write him for a "cat" bale out program. :)
