If your truck is a 2WD, there is a fix for this involving welding the rack and pinion to the frame. The vibration is related to an ultra sensitive rack that is floating and needs to be secured.

it is a 2wd and @ 270,000 mi . what about just replaceing it .

There is a replacement available although you're going to have to make sure it's the one that's welded to the frame. If you replace it with a similar one your vibrations will continue. I'll check and see if I can come up with a part number.

after looking at my rack and pinion ,turning the steering slightly back and forth ,the rack travels 1/4 to 3/8 inch back and forth . the bushings are shot . gonna try and replace the bushings 12.00 each and see if thats it. my buddies silverado has no travel at all so i'll give it a try

I have a 2000 Silverado 1500. After driving a while and stop for 5 minutes upon staring up again the transmission feels like it is shaking and shuddering. After slow driving for about a mile seems ok.

Is ti shaking and shuddering while still in park after you start the truck? Or does it start shuddering in first gear when starting from a start?

I have a 2010 TX Edition silverado in which I've had for about 4 months now. I had my factory 20 inch wheels rotated and I felt a little vibration. I took it back to firestone and the balanced them again, but still had vibrations. Well, I thought since I was upgrading to 22 inch wheels that maybe this would go away. Well, I still have the vibrations and a little worse. I also took it back to the tire dealer and they did a spin balance, but I'm still getting the vibrations mainly in the steering wheel.

Any idea on what I should do or have checked since it happened with the factory and aftermarket wheels?

I too, have a 2010 Silverado, though it's the 2500 work truck. It shakes at highway speeds of about 80 to the point that I feel like I'm on one of those beds in a cheap motel that will give you a massage for a quarter :) . I've gone back to the dealership two times. On both occasions they rotated, balanced and performed an allignment. They told me that if it only shakes at 80 mph, then don't go 80! This just doesn't seem right. Can you provide any additional help of what else to look for before I complete the lemon law paperwork? Thanks!

I haven't taken my Chevy back to the dealership, but I may have to now. I'm taken it to firestone for spin balancing, etc. I haven had the tires completely changed and still same issue.
