I have a '99 accord -v6 and recently i noticed some jerk while putting in drive from reverse. The dealer told me after inspection that I have broken motor mount and that I also have some oil leaks. barely a month ago i did my 60K service at the same dealer and at that time there were no oil leaks. any idea if the broken motor mount
leads to oil leaks from engine gasket? has anyone else had this problem of broken motor mounts? dunno what must have caused it..
thanks,
Or do we have to always look for the negative?
The 03 owner's manual does not mention anything about automatically shut off.
We can't resist looking for the negative. It's just what we do.... ;-)
(My son, 5 years old, doesn't get rhetorical questions either. When I blare out, "HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT?!?" his reply is always something like, "Five?")
It's great that you are pleased with your recent service experience (your post #13917). I'm surprised about something though. You said "they did the 5,000 mile oil change". That's a non-scheduled interval. If you check the schedules in your Honda Maintenance booklet you will find that "normal" oil changes are to be done at 7,500 mile intervals and "severe" service oil changes are at 3,750 miles.
Thanks
Just like we have dissagreements here having to do with how often to change our oil, dealer vs. jiffy shop vs. do-it-yourself, and synthetic vs dino.....I'm sure dealers have different opinions on what is a reccommended service interval. As long as they aren't exceeding Honda's intervals then they have nothing to worry about with their opinion.
For instance my dealer has a whole sheet of recommended serices that may or may not identically match Honda's service schedule, but the dealer never exceeds honda's specs. My dealer wants me to come in every 3750 miles for an oil change. I wait till 5000.
The next time I was at the dealer, I notice that they change to 3750 for V6 & 5000 for 4 cyl. Look like they took some of my input.
I do it myself at around 7000 on my 4 cyl, that would be 5250 for a V6 using the same percentage between v6 & 4.
I realize there is no such thing as a free lunch. I am sure American Honda was billed for the brake work - turning rotors, new front pads ($168). I am also sure this will be reflected in Honda's expenses which will in turn make the cars cost that much more.
Still - good service from a good dealer.
So the 6 needs more frequent oil changes?
That dealer recommends 3750 for I4 and V6.
I actually plan on changing at 4000 but life happens and by the time I actually get around to it I'm at 4700 or so miles.

It's preposterous that your dealer would disregard the distinctly different schedules Honda recommendeded for the two engines.
I don't want to spark a 'proper maintenance' debate, but if a dealer believes in the engineers who produce their product, why can't they follow their instructions?
left front fender, right below the hood, so still very much on top of the wheel well (as you know, our hoods are thin, and fenders thick). about halfway up from headlights, just below the hood, where the slope is very severe, when i press, the panel gives, maybe not even 2MM, but enough to make a popping noise. i opened the hood to peer underneath, but it is sealed. i tried the exact location, on the right front fender, and no noise. i did that when the car was warm, tried again this morning when cold, still popped.
now, NOTHING is loose, falling off, all gaps are totally fine, so i am wondering what the culprit is. if in fact there is anything to be worried about at all.....
anyone elses car do that? should i be concerned? it only does it for about 7-10 inches of the length, one i get close to windshied, it stops, and when i get close to headlight, it stops.
i hope i explained the location as well as possible. how are fenders put on? maybe just a srcew loose inside that i can't see?
THANKS for input!
"I don't want to spark a 'proper maintenance' debate, but if a dealer believes in the engineers who produce their product, why can't they follow their instructions?"
Goes back to my previous post.
1. Just as we have 'proper maintenance' debates, I'm sure mechanics have the same type of debates. They are under no obligation to follow Honda's service intervals as long as they do not exceed them.
2. There is a world of difference between engineering and actually maintaining their products. On paper you can make anything happen. In the real world these mechanics may have true experience that says that these briliiant engineers are full it. Or it could be a hard habit to break to disregard the ole 3000 mile oil change routine.
3. Suggesting service intervals sooner than the manual states makes the service shop more money. The customer however is under no obligation to follow their suggestion, only the manual and only if they care about their warranty.

"Then your dealer is wrong."
Their is no right and wrong in this stuff. It's all a matter of opinion and personal experience. Very few cars self destruct due to engine failure these days. Especially when service intervals are done sooner than the manufacturer suggests.

Mine (03 EX V6) does the same thing - I just checked. (Do I ever wish I didn't read this thread!) On the driver's side only, not on passenger side. Sounds like it's hitting into something. Car is cold.
That's because minivans were the hot thing at that time, which pretty much eliminated the market for wagons. Now that minivans have the "soccer mom" stigma, people who like something a bit more nimble than your average SUV but with more cargo room than your average sedan are looking for alternatives.
for once, my car isn't the only one! my friends won't tell me to take medication, haha.
i am stopping by the dealer tomorrow. as you can see, when you open the hood, you can't see down in there. i can't believe it would be "designed in" from the factory.....
(above the wheel well) of the 03EXV6, and heard no poping sound. Yes, I pushed hard.
Had a chance to run a trip more than 40 minutes tonight. The rear defrost did not automatically shut off. I didn't expect it would since the manual does not say so.

What you see was really done, after 606 takes.
Here is an article pertaining to the making of the commercial:

should that make me feel better? i think it kind of does....
If it makes you feel any better some people are getting very close to 30 from their V6 Accords fairly regularly.
I like the fact that the US Accord is based on the Honda Aspire, their flagship car in Japan. Considered luxurious for the line.
I carefully checked my '04 Accord EX-L 4 cylinder and highway-only mileage was 33.2 and city-only mileage was 22.6. A mixture of the two was about 24 on one early tankful.
I'd say that's good for a 3200 pound car with plenty of power which I believe the 4 cylinder Accord has.....Richard

Consumer Reports got the new Malibu at 38 mpg with a 3.5 liter V-6 and an auto tranny - they run their hwy test at 65 mph.
They said something good about a GM car.
Reality is my LeSabre gives 34 on flat interstates at 65 over lots of miles. The tank fills vs mileage indicates the computer gives good readings on fuel mileage on this car. It did get 45 mph according to the computer information center -- but there was a 35-50 mph wind behind me!!!
Perhaps manual V6 @ 55 mph could hit that.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
Has anyone else experienced this?
Other than that, the car is really flawless, a pleasure to drive.
I expericenced the exact same thing during ice and show here. I have a very short 10-minute commute to work. By the time I get there the heat from the defroster is has been enough to allow me to lower the window and show my id.
