In my opinion, the good price people have paid recently for EXL-NAV is about $33k + state tax + max of $200 in tags/fees.

Anything more, you can paying too much. If you prefer to save money, consider driving 120 miles to PA (Bobby Rahal in Mechanicsburg) to get this price than paying $4k more to local dealer. You can email your old car pictures and guarantee a trade-in offer via email and drop off and drive your new car.

I bought my EXL-RES last month for $32,650 (incl. destination) + 6% PA tax + 165 in tags/fees and an very good trade-in for my old vehicle. All handled via email and phone.

    Greetings:

Thanks again to those posting / replying to us Odyssey EX-L seekers. I wanted to update my earlier post on prices. I've receive a broad spectrum of initial prices--I'd be interested in what others think. Based on what I have read, they still seem a bit high. Please help.

Honda of Dulles: Very Pricey. They wanted $37,100 after a $2500 trade in for an EX-L w/NAV. No way.

Honda of Tyson's: They wanted 33,200 before title/taxes for an EX-L (no/no NAV nor RES)

Honda of Fairfax: 33K before title taxes for an EX-L no/no NAV nor RES

Bill Page Honda: 32,600 before title/taxes for an EX-L (no/no NAV nor RES)

    AND BEYOND

Contacted Bobby Rahal in Mechanicsburg: OTD EX-L (no/no NAV nor RES) = 33,000 even (taxes, title, everything included)

Pohanka (maybe Bethesda, MD): EXL (no/no NAV nor RES) = 33, 800 OTD (taxes, title, everything included)

    Any thoughts? Looking for context/opinions--thanks

    Boris

    Ringer1,

Thank you. I should have been more specific...I meant the cash back incentives. I believe in December Honda offered $500 or $750 for using Honda Financing.

The Globe and Mail a Canadian newspaper published Canadian Perceived Quality Scores of major automakers.

Honda ranks 16th of 24 with Mazda, GMC, Toyota and Hyundai the top four. In Luxury brands Acura is 6th of 13 with Audi, Porsche, Land Rover, Infiniti and Volvo ahead of Acura and Lexus at 7th.

This was a survey of the public done by ALG. Surprised me.

I paid little over 38k for a Touring. That is way too high.

    boris36,

Do your research on this van and all of the tranny, motor mounts, etc. Here is an article just put out by Motor Trend.

February 2012 Motor Trend Long Test Article 2011 Odyssey Touring Elite, 6 months old, 14999 miles "...we'll have the technicians look at the transmission as well. Over time, shifting has become rough, and occasionally upon acceleration between first and second gears, the transmission seems to be shuddering."

I just bought at Carey Paul Honda in Snellville. Got the $750 cash from Honda Finance. I paid $40,150.00 for a touring. No trade. Also received 1.9% but beware the Finance guys. They will try to push the extended warranty and tell you you only qualify for 1.9% if you buy the warranty.

    Hey Atlbuyer1,

Is the $40,150 including tax, tag, and title? Thanks.

We bought an Ody two weeks ago. Very satisfied with the car. However, the dealer makes a [non-permissible content removed] now. Any help and suggestion is appreciated.

When we bought the car, the dealer asked for ~$200 for title and registration and agreed to refund if the true cost is less. Because we had a trade-in, the actual registration cost turns out to be just $40 for transferring old plate and old registration to the new car, instead of their estimated $125. The title is about $50. So the dealer should refund us $200-40-50=~$100.

I called the dealer yesterday, one week after receiving the bill for T&R. They first said they would send me the breakdown of the cost and refund the extra. Later the day, they called and said the extra was runner's fee and would not be refunded. That's being said, they simply kept the money.

What should we do to get our money back?
    1. This runner's fee is not on the sale agreement, so they should not charge us for it.
    2. Moreover, on the sale contract, it is very clear that the ~$200 for t&l is under the section "Pay to others on behalf of yourself". Our understanding is: "Pay to others" means the dealer can use the money to pay DMC etc, but CANNOT use any portion of the money to pay itself. The term "on behalf of yourself" means legitimately the money is ours. Right?

Any suggestion? If we dont get my money back, we feel the dealer would be encouraged to continue to cheat money from others. As consumers, is there a way to protect ourself?

BTW, $100 does not seem a lot, but we don't make easy money and we have kids to feed.

    Hey jea5,
Is that price out the door? I am shopping around in the Southern Cal area for an 2012 Ody EX-L w/NAV as well, and if that's the price you got out the door, then I definitely need to rethink my bargaining strategy.
I filled out their online form and someone called me and also emailed me.
They wanted to charge me $35700 before TTL...

Well, not working out this time for me...

I got a quote from Bobby Rahal for $33,029 for an EX-L (no res, no nav). And the trade quoted was a joke.

So far, best I got has been $31,600 for an EX-L in Planet Honda in northen NJ, however they are sleaze bags. I am using that quote to get others on board.

No numbers on the trade yet (as I haven't brought it in). Have a 2005 Mazda MPV LX pretty loaded with 79K. Based on Edmunds, KBB, NADA, I should get on average 5500.

One local dealer who is matching Planet Honda, is trying to find a $750 certificate as well.

Interesting is that some other dealers stopped replying once I asked if they were willing to match/beat the offer I had.

Thank you for all the great info on this forum. Just pulled the trigger!

2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L with NAV - Silver
    Exterior & Interior protection package
    Mud flaps
    Tint
    Cargo Tray
    Pin stripes

$ 35,300 OTD (including TTL). How did I do?
  • stir791stir791 Member Posts: 4
I had been in the market for an Odyssey and was waiting for a good deal. Got an email today about "$7000 off MSRP" so I took the bait going in to see what it was about. It was $7000 off MSRP of any EXL with Nav on the lot. All of them had what I would consider 1700 in BS options (mudflaps, wheel lock, cargo plastic thing that goes in the back, tint, little rubber piece on the edge of the doors and a stripe. Nothing I would actually buy on my own.

    Walked out with these totals

"Price" including BS options after 6250 off MSRP and 750 rebate:
    $32381
    $180 Doc Fee

    plus
TTL is standard stuff, prefer not to disclose as I negotiated like crazy on a trade in and that stuff is standard (doesnt really help someone in another state) and the deal could've been done with or without the trade. The trade backs out some of the tax etc etc..... tough to do apples to apples on that one.

I had to finance to get the $750, as I intended to pay cash, but they gave me .9% so the cost of interest for one month won't be much more than $25.

This was in DFW Dallas Fort Worth Texas. The "deal" is until 1/21 so just one more day.

I am in the process of buying a EX-L no NAV/RES.
Best price I got 32600 including mudflaps, wheel lock, cargo plastic , + TTL.

I am in southern CA near LA.

    what do you think?

We are also in the market for a 2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L no Nav/no RES. Best quote we have so far is 32,715 from the Honda dealership in Glendale. What dealership are you working with?
  • familyof5lafamilyof5la Member Posts: 2
Does anyone have suggestions on finding the best price for a 2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L with no Nav/no RES in Los Angeles? Best price we have is $32,715 + TTL, but we are hoping to find something better. Appreciate any insight. Thanks.
  • ntgo99ntgo99 Member Posts: 3
    hi familyof5la,
I am close to Oceanside. I contacted local dealers and a few south/north and best deal so far is 32600 + TTL. Your price $32715 is close to mine, but does it include the pro-pack/dealer protection package and destination fee? mine does.

People from the east seem to get better deal or in TX.

Anyone knows of upcoming incentive from Honda?

What was your price before TT&L?
  • trinifawktrinifawk Member Posts: 5
    Hey nitisu,
Where did you buy this van for that price?
I went to a dealership that claims to be the number 1 Honda in America (in fact, the salesperson plugged that in in every other sentence), and was stuck with a price around $33700 before ttl, coming up to $36427 out the door.
I walked out on the deal because the salesperson was being a bit of a jerk after I showed him this forum page and my wife felt uncomfortable talking more with him.
This was at a dealer in Southern California, and the salesperson said that the price is firm and will be available as long as the van is available.

Any thoughts on how I should proceed?

I hate my new Honda. I've always purchased Toyota's and I wish I had stuck with Toyota. My Honda is the worst car I have ever owned. My gas tank started leaking on my new $35,000 car and Honda wouldn't fix it -- they said it was "rodent" damage. I guess you can't park your car anywhere because there are "rodents" everywhere. Talk about the Ford Pinto gas tank fiasco all over again. If you are thinking about buying a Honda, don't!!! Get a Toyota. I've had 4 Toyota's and never had a problem and I got over 250,000 miles on all of them -- I didn't have 20,000 miles on my Honda before I started to have problems. I hate Honda!!!!! I wish I felt better after whining about my car, but I don't. Thanks for letting me vent :)

I got a similar offer for EX-L(NAV). The accessories are priced really high 1696 with OTD price is 34329 with no protection package. How far can you negotiate on the price?

    Hey stir791

I got a similar offer for EX-L(NAV). I agree the accessories are priced really high . When i inquired they said installation blah blah. Installation charge for Cargo mat/tray they got to be kidding, anyway I have been quoted 34329 as the OTD price with no protection package. Did you have any room for negotiation at the price you quoted. In the end did you walk away with the ody ? and is this a good deal?
  • trinifawktrinifawk Member Posts: 5
Are you in the Southern California area?

How were you able to negotiate to that price?

    Hi trinifawk,

This was McDavid Honda of Frisco (DFW area). As another poster on this forum mentioned - this weekend they had a special on the EX-L w/ Nav since they had 18 of those in stock.

I would recommend looking at other regional dealerships and looking specifically for those with extra inventory (you can just check their websites) and also looking closer to the end of the month (now would be a great time) ...since quotas etc. come into the picture.

As another poster here correctly said, TTL varies by state so I'd negotiate on base price. The base for mine was ~32K. (Remember they have a $750 promo if you finance thru AHFC so they were able to take an extra 750 off the base price).

Start asking for a price of 32K + TTL and hopefully one of the dealerships should be able to come close. Good luck!!
  • nitlsunitlsu Member Posts: 7
Wow! 34329 OTD for a EX-L NAV is a great price...I assume that includes the 1696 in accessories? The protection package is negotiable...I got mine for 300 (after being quoted 800).

But even without the protection package...34329 OTD is a great deal.
  • su_a_vesu_a_ve Member Posts: 82
Best I could do was $31,800 via internet sales for a 2012 EX-L (no res, no nav) before tax/tags/doc fees. But was able to get them to give me two $250 certificates from Honda Financing. Their doc fees is $197 and they charge tag fees after the fact and only how much they cost (no courier or anything).

They also did good on my trade, matching Edmunds. Can't complain though some lately have been doing great on EX-L with NAV it seems.

Will be getting 8/100/zero Honda Care from Bernardi next week and the all weather mats. Was quoted $1190. Anyone with something better than this?
  • ntgo99ntgo99 Member Posts: 3
Got EX-L in cherry and beige for 32600 including the pro-pack + TTL.

We are very satisfy overall with the price after haggling around town and got the exact color we wanted.

$1190 for 8/100/zero is the same price we got quoted from Saccucci. My local dealer couldn't match it, we have upto 6000 miles to get the extended warranty.
  • tharathara Member Posts: 2
At the time of my touring elite purchase, i also bought extended service agreement and maintenance program which was offered by the dealer.

I paid $1070 for 8yr/80,000 and $543 for maintenance until 30,000 miles. This includes 4 oil changes (synthetic), 15K and 30K service (no time limit). Both of them are sold under Hendrick Autoguard. After reading some posts i see some honda protection package etc. Are these are same or different?

For extended services agreeemnt, can anyone please adivce whether it is ok to go with hendrick autoguard? otherwise what are my options?

Do you recommend maintenance program? is $543 is a good deal?

    Thanks,
  • su_a_vesu_a_ve Member Posts: 82
Only go with manufacturer's extended warranties which are valid at any dealer in the US. This is not only for Honda, but for other brands as well.

If your car is under 6months old and under 6K, you can get Honda Care as a new car. Otherwise, the price goes up depending on the mileage.

    For maintenance, not sure.
  • su_a_vesu_a_ve Member Posts: 82
Finally some other dealers internet managers started to reply and could not match the offer I got. So at least for this region, this is not a bad deal...
  • vinnynyvinnyny Member Posts: 764
Rats used the firewall insulation of my Mazda CX9 to build a nest on the intake manifold last winter. They must have been too lazy or too cold to go out for dinner because they ate all the rubber and soft plastic off the wiring harness. My Mazda was in the shop for ten days. Mazda didn't pay for the repairs because they have no control over rats and no reason to shield their engine compartments from rodents. I don't hate Mazdas. I hate rats. So, I laid out traps, caught the rats, and dumped them in the garbage. Then I felt better...

It's not Honda's fault that rats damaged your fuel system. It could have happened with any brand car because no manufacturer shields against rodent damage and no automaker is going to pay for the damage.
  • duplexdianneduplexdianne Member Posts: 20
May I ask for the breakdown of the fees you were charged?
  • tharathara Member Posts: 2
    Thanks for the information.

Where do i get honda extended warranty and how much does it cost?
  • su_a_vesu_a_ve Member Posts: 82
    Bernardi Honda (bernardiservicecontracts.com)

I ended up getting Honda Care 7yrs/80k/0ded for $790. I thought on going for 8yr/100k/0Ded for $1190 but thought the extra year wasn't worth $400.

    Max is 8yr/120k/0Ded for $1295.

No tax for me either. They do have a few states they can't sell by law. They have a payment plan for $30 fee I believe.

And this supposedly includes a $30 discount on parts. Their parts dept has excellent prices as well.
  • ipodslaveipodslave Member Posts: 3
finally bought it last week, the price is OTD, and include Honda Pro Pack, mud guard, tint, etc...(the usual dealer installed stuff), financed through Honda at 0.9% for 36 months, so this includes a $750 discount. I am in DFW area.

    How did I do?
  • sho_kansho_kan Member Posts: 7
Wow that seems good. Can you tell me what the base price and breakdown the price. I am in Santa Clara so my tax rate is definitely higher.

  • stir791stir791 Member Posts: 4
I gotta say I was pretty pleased with the deal, yes I took it. I really didnt want the Nav wouldve much preferred the RES, but I'll go a retail store there as I have some "rewards" to spend there and it wont cost me anything. They wouldnt come near the discount on other models and seeing it was "negotiation free" I went for it. As it turns out I am enjoying the large screen for the NAV. I personally found the deal GREAT. I wouldnt recommend buying any warranty from the dealership you go to up front, that one you can do anywhere and pit nationwide dealers vs each other.
  • stir791stir791 Member Posts: 4
wow didnt realize we had both just come from the same dealership psyched up about the same deal. They had ONE in the overflow lot that didnt have the BS options but I couldnt convince the wife to go with the color scheme -- that wouldve been awesome at $1700 less, did you buy the silver one in the overflow lot with the dark dark interior or one by the front door?

    Hi all
I am looking to buy 2012 EXL. A dealership quoted me a price with 10 Year / 100,000 Mile Powertrain Warranty included. I don't want to buy any warranty from the dealership because I live far from them. I understand from this board if I buy honda care, it can be used in any honda dealership nation wide. But how do i know if the warranty is from honda or from the dealership?
    Thanks.
  • su_a_vesu_a_ve Member Posts: 82
ONLY buy Honda Care - this will allow you to go to any dealership in the nation. You should have them give you the price without the warranty. Chances are it'll be a thousand or more and they'll claim that it would cost you a lot more if you go without it.

BTW folks, all these dealer add-ons - you should negotiate to get them AT COST. They are making a chunk of profit (500+) in these.

A local dealer wanted 500 for their package - wheel locks ($50), rubber mats ($150) and trunk tray ($80). Even if you say it's $50 for half hour to install the wheel locks, they are making a nice profit on these.

BTW, on my EX-L deal, the dealer gave me the wheel locks at no charge (they do that for all their cars they said).

I hope this post will help someone, as this forum was a great place for me to find information before I made my purchase.

    Invoice: + $39,540
    Destination: + $810
    Dealer Holdback: - $874
    Net: $39,478
Reg. Fees+6yr/120K Mile Bumper to Bumper Ext. Warranty+Sales Tax-ALL INCENTIVES: $3,000

    Total Out the Door (Net+Reg. Fees+Ext. Warranty+Dealer Maint. Program+Sales Tax) = $42,478

While I had a trade-in, the bottom line is that you can get this vehicle starting at the NET price posted above. My MD state tax was low on the vehicle, because when you trade in a vehicle in MD, you only have to pay tax on the difference between what they give you for your trade and what the new vehicle cost. Also, the dealer is not going to tell you about the HOLDBACK, but they will give it up if you ask, and show them that you have done your research. FYI...the dealer maintenance program gives me 3 years of all scheduled maintenance, three oil changes per year, car washes for life, and some other stuff.
