Jetta Radio Question

I have a 2009 Jetta with the 6 CD changer and SAT radio (not GPS). Does anyone know if there is a way to have the display light stay on whenever the radio is turned on even if the headlights are off? During the day the display is hard to see but if I turn on my headlights the radios display light makes a big difference. It looks like it would be a simple programming or wiring job as the light goes off when I turn off the radio even though the buttons remain lit when the headlights are on.

I have a 2009 Jetta also with the Sirius radio, as well as a 2007 Jetta (standard radio - not Sirius). Both cars have the same no light display on the radio, unless the headlights are turned on. This is probably in the internal wiring of the radio, but it would be worth a question to a VW dealer, as I am sure they have had this request previously. The LCD display on the radios tend to fade out in bright sunlight or if you wear polarized sunglasses.

I have that sunglasses problem in my Mazda. When I am wearing the polarized sunglasses, I have to tilt my head a little to one side to see the display.

I have an older Bora (European Jetta) with a Blaupunkt radio-cassette unit that has a menu system that allows all sorts of options to be set. You hold down a particular button to get into the Settings Menu, use the tuning switch to cycle thru the options, a second tuning switch to select the preferred setting and then hold the first button down again for a few seconds to save the changes. You may find there is an option menu somewhere in your radio that lets you have the display lighting on independent of the headlights; the option may not even be shown in the vehicle owner manual.
