Does BMW X5 Catch Fire and Burn by itself?

raksgalraksgal Member Posts: 18
Hi,

I was strongly considering BMW X5 for my SUV purchase. But I came across so many BMW owners posting that their car has caught fire and has burnt down.

I am thinking this issue is a very severe issue. I am considering other options now. Here are some video links:

Here is another link where lots of BMW Owners are complaining about their car catching fire while parking for a few hours.

Type "any car maker" + fire into youtube and you'll get tons of results.
Toyota, Acura, whatever. Any car can burn.

I did search after you posted. I do see some recalls for Aura or Mazda. But none of them seem to be as bad and as severe as what we see with BMW in these videos. This is life threatening and property burn down severe.

The worse part is...BMW did not issue any recall and letting people fight and lose the battle.

I have a 2011 BMW x5. I had some papers under my seat and the heater on 84 degrees in the rear and the papers under the seat caught fire yesterday!!! BMW says it is my fault for having paper near the heating elements under the seat and there is nothing they can do. I was driving when it happened and I am glad my children were not in the car. I will NEVER buy another BMW especially after how I was treated by their customer service rep.

Yeah... it catches fire alright. Look at the images. This happened on Friday, November 11, 2016. I was driving and when stopped at a light, we noticed smoke and then realized our car was on fire. We all got out in time. Car was completely engulfed within seconds. I spoke to insurance as well as BMW about it. Instead of connecting me to someone who might want to find out more about it or a technical person, they offered $3500 off the purchase of my next BMW. Wow. I'm still floored by this. I don't want it happening to anyone else.

Djkinillinois, glad you're all safe! If you haven't already reported this to the NHTSA, you can do so HERE.
