'09 Forester Replacement Tires
I'm getting ready to replace the tires on my '09 Forester X. I'm looking for recommendations. I live in Minnesota and drive roughly 28 miles to work each way in light highway traffic (reverse commuter). Obviously as I live in MN, handling in snow is a primary concern. I eventually plan to pass this car on to my son so tread life is also a priority.

Nokian makes an all season that is also winter-rated (fairly unique in that regard!), the WR G2, but I cannot vouch for the tread life.
In my experience, the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred is an excellent year-round choice with unbeatable treadwear rating. I had a set on a 1996 Subaru Outback shortly after they were first introduced, and they were far and away the best all-season tire for snow and ice driving I have ever experienced (I live in Fairbanks, Alaska). Not as good as a dedicated winter tire, but not too far off either. They were also great on dry and wet.
I'm strongly considering another set for my '10 Forester, even though I maintain a separate set of dedicated winter tires for that car. At six months' use per year, the treadwear rating on them is probably going to be overkill, but we sometimes drive out during the early spring (okay, April isn't early spring down south, but it is here!) or head home in the late fall, and a good tire that can handle the occasional snow or ice storm is a good thing to have mounted. If I used the dedicated winter tires, though, they would be bald by the time I came home due to nothing but dry roads a quarter of the distance into the drive!
