"From engines to steering systems and interiors toroof options, the entire SL-Class lineup is new for 2013... A new generation of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class comes around about once a decade. When it does, it's an occasion. Just about everything has been redesigned or changed for this sixth-generation 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, yet it pleasingly maintains its rightful place as a long-standing icon."

For months I have been searching for a top condition 230SL fitted with both soft top and hardtop, a/c and manual transmission in ivory or white. I always considered this sporty combination the epitome of refinement, understated elegance, reliable, fun to drive and economical. Whilst such vehicles are still available, this 50 year SL would set you back between $50-75,000.
The 250SLK must surely be the next best choice, perhaps not quite as refined, but it certainly comes with the benefits of modern technology and engineering advances for the same price, less the soft-top which is now redundant.
Mercedes manages to cater to all ages with the new SLK through a wide choice of power. It allows an old man like me standing 5'8" in tow with his petite wife to putter around Oahu in a somewhat dignified and economical, sporty fashion given a 7 speed manual gearbox at my disposal.
Mahalo Mercedes, nothing like 50 years of consistency.
