Charging System Problem

The problem is that this Van that I'm looking to buy (1999 Olds Sil) has an issue charging. The owner told me that sometimes the van seems to quit charging and the battery will die. I guess that sometimes the van will run fine for a few weeks and then all of the sudden the problem will arise again...
Dash lights come on, then van dies. He charges the battery and then it lasts 3 to 4 days and dies.
He's replaced the alternator, and battery.
Other than that the van runs great.
Has anyone else had this problem and that has found a solution or know of one?
