'05 Lincoln LS Steering Squeaking

I have a '05 lincoln LS with 86K. I bought the car several months ago and recently discovered that the steering fluid was several inches below min when the wheel started groaning at low speeds.

I had an oil change and added more steering fluid and the noise has largely gone away.

Now the steering is more responsive but it still squeaks or groans slightly when at low speeds and it feels like it is resisting me very very slightly. But this is only if it has already been running for a little while and not upon start up.

Per Ford, Mercon fluid must be used, is that what you poured into the p/s reservoir? If not, best to flush the P/S system and refill with Mercon.
