Ford Escape Bluetooth, iPhone

I just purchased a used 2011 Ford Escape. I am having trouble syncing my iphone with the car. I have read the instructions but don't get past the first step because when I press the button with the phone picture, I get a message saying 'No Phone'. I did turn my bluetooth on before starting the process. Any suggestions?
