Mechanism to slow down depressing gas pedal

Is there any way or accessory to slow down the speed you can press the gas pedal? My kid is learning to drive. Occassionally you would see news about a beginner pressing the gas pedal when he meant to step on the brake. If there's a way to prevent pushing down the gas pedal too quickly, it would be great for a beginner. Of course the mechanism should have a switch or lever to disable it, and ideally should not increase the force you need to press and hold the pedal.

I have never heard of this kind of thing, and I would tend to think its better to learn correctly the first time and not have to re-learn anything.

Not that I know of, I doubt there is one, too much liability for a company to make a device that interferes with the normal operation of the gas pedal.

Thanks both. I know it would be hard for any company to make this device, not because of technology, but because of liability. I imagine the simplest is to replace the spring under the gas pedal with one of the same size but stronger force constant. I'm sure that won't interfere with anything. It just makes it harder to press, and of course you'll be tired more easily if you press and hold for an extended period of time. Anyway, I just wish the car maker could offer this option in some models in the future. They're the best people to make this change, not accessory companies.

I wonder if there is a way to modify the ECU to reduce power output, which might have a similar impact. I know it is done to motorcycles in some countries, for learners.

But frankly, if someone is having brake/gas confusion, I can't believe they should be on the road at all. Just sayin.

I remember when Driver's Ed cars had dual controls, brakes and gas at least.

You could track down a conversion place that caters to drivers with disabilities and see what solutions they may have.
