Best comparable 3-5 year car to 2000 Honda Civic

I currently drive a 2000 Honda Civic LX 4dr automatic, and nothing even comes close to the agility, sportiness, and cornering ability of this car. I love it and don't want to let it go... but I am looking for a newer car with more modern safety features than this model. I will be using it to commute a few miles on the freeway with occasional longer trips on the freeway. Which makes and model cars in the 3-5 year old range could compete with the 2000 Honda Civic's agility and cornering ability?
